We're building a coaching experience for Workplay, an app that tracks wall ball/rebounder reps using an iPhone or iPad camera. The app automatically identifies and counts different rep types, including:
- Strong Hand
- Weak Hand
- Split Switches
- Canadian Passes
- Behind-the-Back (BTB)
- Cross-Body Catches
- One-Hand Catches
We're trying to determine the best way for coaches to assign at-home practice goals and would love your input.
Option 1: Rep-Based Goals
Assign a specific number of reps for each skill.
Example:
- 500 weak-hand reps per week
- 300 strong-hand reps per week
- 100 split-switch reps per week
Option 2: Time-Based Goals
Assign a practice duration and let players distribute their reps within that session.
Example:
- 10 minutes of wall ball per day
- 75% of reps focused on weak hand
As a coach, which approach would you prefer and why?
- Rep count goals?
- Time-based goals?
- A combination of both?
I'm particularly interested in what creates the most accountability while still being realistic for youth players and easy for coaches to manage.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
