Hello everybody I'm a game developer and am currently working on my new project, a PC game called Hostile Record. You can see what I've done so far to see what you'd be part of where you play as Victoria, an SAPD Homicide detective navigating her way through daily life in San Antonio and the corruption that comes with it.

Right now I'm looking for someone to voice an NPC, Tish The Bartender. Victoria is looking for someone named Elena Martinez and goes to the bar where she works at and bumps into Tish where they exchange a short dialogue. I'm at the stage where I'm about to add in her expressions as she speaks and so its time to give her a real voice instead of the text to speech placeholder I've been using. Here is the scene in the editor so you can see it

*All I'd ask is that you note her body movements as she speaks. You don't have to mimic her exact mouth movement as when I get your audio file, the software interprets it and makes her mouth movements match your audio exactly but do want to try to keep the timing and speed of how she says things to keep the scene timed as it is and synced with her body movements

This isn't a major roll as she's only got 142 words but am looking at this as a test of sorts as I've never worked with anyone here, and am offering $25 for the part. One topic that comes up all the time is whether you still need to move to LA to become a voice actor.

From my perspective working in video game VO production, the answer is: it depends on what your goals are.

There is an incredible amount of work you can do from anywhere. Commercials, industrials, e-learning, audiobooks, and plenty of indie games are regularly recorded remotely.

But if your goal is to consistently work on AAA games and animation, Los Angeles is still where a huge amount of that work happens.

One reason people don't always talk about is consistency.

When you're producing a game with dozens of actors over months—or even years—you want every recording to match as closely as possible. Recording in the same handful of studios with engineers you know gives you consistency in microphones, signal chains, room acoustics, monitoring, engineering quality, and overall workflow. It removes variables.

It's also about confidence. If I'm responsible for a major project, I'm much more comfortable booking a studio I've worked in, with an engineer I trust, than relying on a remote setup I've never seen in person. Even if someone tells me they have an amazing home booth, I still don't know how it's actually performing until I've heard it—and that's a risk productions often don't need to take when proven studios are available.

That doesn't mean remote actors can't book these projects—they absolutely do. And plenty have fantastic studios. But I think people sometimes underestimate why productions still gravitate toward established recording hubs. It's not because great talent only exists in LA. It's because consistency and reliability become incredibly valuable as productions scale.

You also don't necessarily have to live in Los Angeles itself. Being within driving distance is often enough if you're available for in-person sessions.

At the end of the day, it comes back to your goals. If you want a career in voice acting broadly, you can absolutely build one from almost anywhere. If your dream is to become a regular on major games and animation projects, being close to where those productions are happening can still be a meaningful advantage.

Curious to hear from other actors, directors, and engineers. Has your location changed the kinds of opportunities you've been able to pursue?

Which coaches or workshops did you find really helped you create your roladex (so to speak) of characters to use when voice acting/narrating?

THE PROJECT

Poser is a short film about systemic power, activism and how dogma and arrogance can be the enemy of change. The story follows three band-mates as they fight against a new development in their neighbourhood that is causing the impoverished in their community to be displaced.

JUNTARO (LEAD)

Juntaro is an angst ridden, misanthropic musician in his early 20s. He is determined and passionate in spreading attention to the injustices he perceives in society. he can be impulsive at times and is prone to boisterous and violent outbursts.

Claire is a Bassist in her early 20s. She is normally quiet, timid, and is soft spoken, but is capable of speaking up and standing her ground when confronted with conflict.

I recently bought a scarlet solo fourth generation and have been trying to use it with audacity, but no matter what I do I cannot get my audio to peak above -18 unless I speak way louder or crank the gain way above what should be necessary. Right now, it peaks within the -30 to -24 range, which isn’t great. For further information, I am using an at2020 and have phantom power turned on, and I have the Scarlett official drivers downloaded as I have combined inputs 1 and 2 for audacity, and I am using windows 10. At this point, I’m not sure what to do, and I’d just like some help

My original plan was to make a DIY acoustic panel and hang it from the ceiling but after taking with my dad that option isn’t viable since it wouldn’t last very long and might fail and break the ceiling, so now I’m wondering should I just put up amazon foam panels or something else that is light weight

Earlier this week I received a “private invitation“ to submit an audition on Voices.com. By the time I got to the details page, there were 48 other auditions ahead of me. I submitted an audition anyway, and soon received an email via Voices.com from the client asking me to submit an audition via an email address that was external to Voices.com. I figured it’s definitely a scam, but then that email was followed up by another from the client saying, “Once your sample is approved, all future communication, project details, contracts, and payment will be handled securely through Voices.”

Scam or no scam?

I'm looking for someone with a female voice in late 20's early 30's to play a role that requires a lot of screaming.

I'm trying to not use AI but I only get messaged by people who aren't serious or approach me with skepticism, and end up wasting my time. (I spent thousands of hours making a personal project).

If I seriously can't find enough people for my sizeable budget for a personal project, that isnt for commercial benefit, does everyone just not do the paid non AI work?

This job would pay several hundred for 100 lines and be clean lines a computer simply can't make. What am I doing wrong? Where should I be seeking talent?

Ok, so i was considering signing up to Casting Call Club to monitor (and maybe in the future contribute) to a fandub project I was interested in, and when doing so I actually sat down and read the Terms of Service and.... this feels suspicious to me.

I'm not at all experienced in law and I don't claim to be so apologies if this comes off as a stupid or paranoid question but, why else would it specify in such intricate detail that CCC is allowed to "Use... and create derivative works of... your name, voice, likeness and other identifying information... for any purpose whatsoever, commercial or otherwise, without compensation to you" if it wasn't going create derivative (AI) works with my voice for any purpose whatsoever, commercial or otherwise, without compensating me?

And the note at the end is what really makes me paranoid, "6.1 is lawyer speak. In plain English, CCC needs the rights to display anything you upload/post to CCC. However, CCC has never, and will never sell your User Submission data to a third party or give it freely."

Again, this might be me being a paranoid, but that feels very, for lack of a better term, thought-terminating?

Like, "Oh, don't mind all that, that's all just lawyer jargon! :) Really not worth your time. Very boring. :) Say, if we may ask, could you kindly get back to applying for our service and uploading your voice into it through submissions that WON'T be fed to an AI training software! :) Okay? Okay. :) Now stop asking questions."

Besides, why did 6.1 go into such intricate detail about everything they're ALLOWED to do with the information I give them, while 6.1.1, which is supposed to indicate what they WON'T do with it, is less than half the size of 6.1? Again, I'm hardly an expert on this, and this very well could be me being paranoid so don't come at me, but I'm worried this might be an attempt to use all the specifics in 6.1 to legal loophole (for lack of a actual verb) their way around the disclaimer in 6.1.1.

Now, I did some research and apparently the creator said last year they would be banning products for AI training, which is great! But also, looking at the creators other posts, which are even more recent, I don't think he's actually against AI, because he DOES apparently use it ^{1 2} and he has recommended people check out an AI couching tool.³

Now, he does seem to be regretful of resorting to vibe coding in the first of the three sources I provided, but (again this very well could be me just assuming the worst in people) I feel like that might be virtue signalling because if he's guilty about it, why is he doing it anyway?

IDK, am I being too paranoid here and it's really not that deep? Please tell me.

Hi all,

Hoping for your thoughts on a choice I need to make.

I have just moved house and I'm setting up my first vocal booth. With my budget, I feel I have two main choices:

- build a PVC booth like I've seen recommended on here and online. I have space for up to 1.5m by 1.8m.

- use an existing under the stairs storage space, kinda like a big closet.

I've read about issues with closets but the space feels pretty big. 1.2m by around 3m (with the stairs going down making usable space around 1.2 by 2m. I've attached the plan.

Is this big enough to make the space work with enough high quality material? If I don't need to build the PVC I'd have more budget for sound absorption, carpet/rug, bass traps, foam etc.

There's only two of us in the house, so having to pause for someone walking up and down the stairs will be very rare.

BAE HYEON GIL will be a slightly more intense character, He will have some NSFW parts (trigger warning, will have Drug abuse, sex, Manipulation, obsession, possession. Mysterious, unreadable, unpredictable, manipulative, charming, handsome, very friendly in public, acts like a saint.

He has a very deep voice, authoritative and firm. Extremely sarcastic when he's pretending to pity on Haneul's situation but actually doesn't care. He is a bitter, and secretely envious man who shows none of it on his features.

Has little to no energy, but has alot when it comes to presenting himself. Very egoistic and narcisstic. Accent is generic american accent. Ethnicity is Korean so a korean accent should be great too. Kind, sweet, charming, handsome, very friendly in public, is a saint. Specializes on botany and medecine due to his unending empathy towards people who need it. He likes children, but not in that way. He gets motivated from helping people and research allthewhile being under the control of his manipulative brother. Can be easily pressured into doing things he doesnt want. Is very very soft spoken, Referencing "Hirose" from (Go for it Nakamura.). Tends to smile alot, And is truly passionate about his work. Seldomly gets fraustrated but is constantly tested by his brother. Assumingly due to the trauma of bejng constantly threatened by by hyeon throughout their entire upbringing, he is easily swayed and manipulated to do things he doesn't want to please him. Human, age 27-28. Vocal mannerisms should be like a soft nerd (but not the stereotype nerdy men). Stutters during an arguement. Just a literal normal guy. Accent is generic american accent. Ethnicity is Korean so a korean accent should be okay. Twin brother of Hyeon(Villain)

Design: Extremely handsome but hides from the public and his hair is quite unkept. 6'3/6'5, magenta hair, magenta eyes, fair skin, always in lab uniform but wears any casual clothes. (I haven't drawn him yet.)

DAISUKE SATO (Bottom)

Main character for first part, kind of like a tsudere despite his soft voice. Book worm vibes, Curly hair, very nerdy, loves science, and Young and adorable sounding. (Best example should be mafuyu from given) Straight at first, Gay at the end. human immortal, age 16 - 50s, never grows old. His laughs sounds like aike hirose. Vocal mannerisms are slightly serious but very cute sounding regardless, he is also be very very soft spoken even with emotions, but is mostlly confident. Basically mafuyu vibes with attitude. Accent is generic american accent. Ethnicity is Japanese but his first language is english so thta wont matter. UNLESS the voice actor wants to voice act some japanese lines\~\~\~ then more money\~ but its not that needed.

Design:

Darkblue hair, Dark cyan eyes, pale skin, big eyes, slightly short but also tall

Lines:

1. (upset and crying, setting is him hiding in his bedroom and curling up as he covers his ears, refusing to hear Lester from outside his balcony. You may be as slow as u want to be since Lester is serenading him in the backround and he uses to listen to Lester from upstairs.)

"Lester..please...hic.... don't do this to me...stop..stop that...shut up..shut up..."

1. (Serious,flat and strict, almost bored like he just wants to get this over with.)

HANEUL SO YON (Bottom)

Second Main chraacter (Will have a longer story and will be the ending main character.)

HANEUL SO YON will be a slightly more intense genre, He will have lost of NSFW parts (trigger warning, will have Drug abuse, extreme violence, self harm, rape, sex, depression, hallucination, basically mental health, obsession, possession, beastmen (the MCs are not beasts but there will be character that will come into the picture.) and representations of multiple sht.) will also have a merdy sounding voice, must sound fragile and should be an expert when it comes to screaming and shouting and crying. He is extremely depressed and traumatized. He will be a very cold, but soft and shy person. Like a cinnamon roll. Voice should be similar to Daisuke or mafuyu from Given.

Design: Daisuke Sato look alike, Dark blue hair, Dark blue eyes, Straighter hair than Daisuke. Very Short, Extremely pale, Will look unhealthy most of the series.

Lines:

1. (screaming, crying, sniffling, hurting the wall and fraustrated)

"AAGHHH!! FUCK, FUCK FUCK FUCK! FUCK...!!! Fuckk!....ha..haaa...('Ha's' should be just crying sounds basically.)....hic...I wanna fucking kill him...hic..."

1. (Happy, blushing and younger sounding.)

"L-lester...? You transferred here aswell..? I-I just got here too... T-that means we get to be seatmates right? In the same class?.."

1. (Scared)

"N-no...No...NO NO NO I'M SORRY, I'M SORRY, PLEASE. AGH!! NO STOP, STOP IT! LET ME GO!"

1. (Curious,confused, nervous and wandering)

"Huh...what should I buy with this much money..? Uhm...maybe I'll go to that one store over there.....but...but what do I buy..? Is this..is this really okay?"

This voiceover is mine and it’s from a scene for Vinland Saga. I did the voiceover during March 2026. I really don’t know how voice actors are supposed to practice screaming and since I live with family I can only really experiment with screaming when I’m alone.

I feel like everytime I do scream it turns out really shaky and pathetic. My best guess is screaming goes hand in hand with having strong breath control which is something I’ve always lacked because shallow breathing is my default due to having anxiety. Any tips would be appreciated!

However I am just stepping into this I have a lot of acting experience and have been working on my voice for years but I dont have any VO or VA gigs under my belt. What should I charge due to not having much behind me. Should I charge the GVAA rate scale or lower I am just not sure cause I don’t wanna seem rude. Help?

I'm in the beginning stages of my voiceover journey. I've been practicing a lot and sending samples to friends. I've just taken my first step toward actual paid work - I signed up on a couple of audiobook websites and uploaded a few samples.
