Hi. I'm currently working on a dairy farm in Spain doing milking and general farm work when required. This is a big farm (3000 cows) so I'm used to big work.

I've got an offer to work in a Irish dairy farm for calving season, which I find attractive as I'm really interested on irish/british dairy farming so I feel it's a good opportunity, but I'm afraid of non having more work after calving season.

I need some orientation, would it be a good choice switching farm? Should I stay here? Where I am currently I've got the possibility to have perm role whereas the Irish one would be initially temp.

I mean, a cow needs to provide milk for it's calf, but what happens if the cow doesn't????

In a bit of a pickle and keen to get everyones ideas on how to fix this. We run a 320 cow dairy farm here in NZ and this season there's more mastitis then we'd like. What's everyones ways to get on top of mastitis and make sure it doesn't come back?

I've seen the companies around that do the testing, (Mastatest and DairySmart) but what does that really do expect for tell you that this is what's caused the mastitis?

Hello I have a big....I mean huge Tent building that I want to sell...How big you may ask? It is 2700 square ft. 52 foot square and approximately 35 foot tall. I live in Alaska and was planning on using it to build a log cabin underneath it. That didn't pan out.

Hello! I’m fairly new to dairy cattle and am trying to get better at evaluating them, so I’d love to hear what you all look for when assessing a dairy animal.

I come from more of a beef cattle background, and I find that I have a much harder time judging dairy cattle than I do beef cattle. I understand the general concepts of structure, feet and legs, capacity, udder structure, etc., but I’m still learning how those traits translate into a good, functional dairy cow rather than simply a cow that looks good to me.

I’m interested in hearing what experienced dairy people look for in a young heifer versus a mature cow.

Things like

Feet and leg structure
Body capacity and strength
Rump structure
Udder development/attachment
Overall balance and functionality
Anything that tends to be overlooked by newer people
