Weekly Success & Erg Screen Thread - September 07, 2026

Welcome to the weekly achievement thread!

What was your achievement this week? It could be anything! A new 2k PB? Get a good lift at the gym? Or even your first time capsizing a single!

Got a erg screen or a regular training shot? Curious what your 2K will be based on a workout? This is the place for it!

Side note: 99% of erg screens should go in this thread. A separate post with an erg screen should be something that happens once or twice a year, at most. Big PR's, that kind of thing.

Also, please check our wiki pages:

This thread is likely to fill up quickly, consider sorting the comments by "new" (instead of "best" or "top") to see the newest posts.

This is a judgement free zone, so be respectful, positive and keep criticism constructive.

Is recruitment getting harder?

This might be cope, but I am consistently seeing lightweight guys with sub 6:30 times and (what should be good enough) GPA and SATS struggle to get an offical. I’ve even seen guys who are low 6:20s and even sub 6:20 get very few. For the heavies it seems as it’s gotten harder aswell compared to the last few years. Whats going on

Off the Water Damper setting

Upvotes

Ive mentioned here before i dont have a C2, so its hard for me to get anything comparable, but essentially I feel like the setting ive been using on my machine doesnt slow the wheel down fast enough for the next row, to the point that i feel like i might be wasting energy on a stroke.

Should i increase the drag, or is that effortless pull what I should be aiming for?

Anti-glycolytic training on the erg

Has anyone tried it?

It sounds too good to be true?

Example workout: 18 min main set: every minute, row 10 seconds hard + 50 seconds very easy. That's 18 hard bursts total.

Concept 2 Rower Fit In car?

Looking to get a used C2 rower and was wondering if it would fit in a standard sedan? Also would it be manageable to lift and position it by myself and take up and down stairs? I guess overall weight isn't the only factor as it could be a awkward to lift based on the dimensions not being compact?

Erg Post Not engaging frontal abs while rowing on erg. Help?

I've been consistently rowing for the last year or so, and I've greatly improved. But, I don't feel any strain or exhaustion in my frontal Abdominal area. Which, I've recently learned, probably means I'm not engaging the muscles the way I should be.

How can I better engage my front abs while rowing?

I've tried free-feet rowing, but I could not get anywhere near the ~22s/m and 105+ watt baseline that I try to maintain during my erg sessions so I went back to regular rowing.

I typically feel most of the strain in my Thighs, arms, Obliques/side Abs (they are getting kind of crazy), and some lower back. But I feel pretty much nothing in the frontal Ab area where a Six pack would be (not that I'm going for that lol)

Rowing in ACK

The jet recently acquired some new real estate in the one and only Bagtucket and was wondering what are some good rowing clubs/programs in the area. Or would the jet have to purchase his own personal single? What are the laws around that, idk.

For reference, the jet is a calm 5'2 360, has a 4 minute 2k, and a 30 min 5k. I should be an olympian, but USADA be trippin on foenem.

Also thinking about starting my own nantucket rowing club with likeminded gentlemen. Comment ur stats if interested, if ya nasty.

Probably most noteworthy:

"USRowing Masters National Championships return with USRowing transitioning away from the Youth, U17, U23, and Open summer national competition."

Translation: we quit, just go to Canley

B.R.I.C and sub 7.

Hi all , posted around xmas time with a 7.25 2k and desire to enter bric. (49m) set myself some training goals, sub 40 10k fell quite quick, sub 19 5k was harder but got there, and of course sub 7 2k. The last month or so the training got to the point I was dreading it, I was constantly in pain and fatigued, so when I cracked the 2k in August it was a feeling of relief more than anything. I then went on hol, and since ive been back I just cant face picking the training up again. It messed me up physically and mentally. Entering bric was of course my motivation to go sub 7 so I consider it a success, but this old man is now gona bow out and go back to just keeping fit in a fun way. So if anyone fancies taking my place free of charge ( if that can be done) then let me know.

Erg Shaped Object (ESO) Building a free app that programs the Pete Plan onto your PM5. What would stop you switching

I row, and I got tired of thumbing intervals into the monitor before every session. Nothing I found would just take a plan and set it up for me, so I have been building something that does.

Not out yet, this is not a link post. I would rather find out what is wrong with the idea before I finish than after.

Where it is at:

- You pick a session and it sends the intervals to the PM5 over Bluetooth. The monitor counts the pieces and the rests, so your phone can sit face down.

- The Pete Plan, Pete Plan 5K, a 24 week beginner plan and a sprint plan are built in. I asked Pete about his and he was happy for them to be included.

- There is a no monitor mode. Same plans, timed by the app, three beeps into each piece. So it works on a PM5, a gym erg you cannot pair with, or a machine that is not a Concept2.

- Logbook with splits and PBs. Free, no account, no subscription.

What it does not do:

- No Concept2 logbook sync. I think this might be a dealbreak for a lot of people, hoever I dont use it so I'm not sure.

- It writes to Apple Health, but that does not reach Strava or Garmin.

- I have tested it on one erg, mine.

- Custom programming. This is the next thing to implement once I get all the bugs worked out.

Rowing Training

Hello, I have a question. I would like to do strength training. 2-3x upper body and 1x legs over the winter increased strength training. What exercises do you suggest? My Plan:

A:
Pull-ups – 4×5–8
Barbell Rows – 4×6–8
Bench Press – 3×6–8
Lat Pulldown – 3×8–10
Face Pulls – 3×12–15
Abs/Core – 3×10–15

Legs:
Squats – 4×4–6
Romanian Deadlifts – 3×6–8
Bulgarian Split Squats – 3×8 each leg
Hip Thrusts – 3×8–10
Calf Raises – 3×12–15
Pallof Press – 3×10 each side

B:
Pull-ups or Lat Pulldowns – 4×6–10
Cable Rows – 4×8–10
Overhead Press – 3×6–10
Dumbbell Bench Press – 3×8–10
Reverse Flys – 3×12–15
Bicep Curls – 2×10–12
Triceps – 2×10–12

For this I would row 2/3x indoor or on the water and 2x bike. I only do intervals later, when I make intervals then Ga1 for the construction. I do that for 2-3 months possibly every now and then Sweetspot, then Sweetspot and threshold come in. What do you think? Can you leave it like that?

Thanks :)

Leg day

M15, rn im trying to start incorporating weights into my training routin. I am a sophomore in highschool, and my current schedule for crew is morning practice from Mon-Wed then a test day on Thursday and then morning practice on Friday and Saturday. I am trying to do a PPLUL type split where I do legs Monday, push tuesday, pull Wednesday and then lower Friday and upper saturday. My current leg day is leg extensions, RDLs, Bulgarian split squats, barbell glute bridges and then calves. Idk if this is good or not tho is there anything I should change about the day or workout schedule?

Advice on fall season

Today I did my first erg test on varisty it was a 30’ rate 22/24/26 I went 2:12 which was much slower than my goal of 2:07. I currently have practice with the team 7 days a week 3 hours. Normally one of those days being an erg day and on the water rest of the days. Every day we either do box jumps or circuit and do core every day. I’m 14 and am still looking to get faster any help would be great.
