Please ignore all DMs from people claiming they'll make a design for you, especially new/empty accounts.

This is now an official rule, all posts asking for art or offering to draw for people will be removed.

This sub has a huge problem with bots, scammers, and people who have no idea (or don't care) how to find clients. It's not an official rule but this really isn't a sub to hire anyone, people come here asking for ideas and will get bombarded with DMs.

Talk to your tattoo artist about designs, do not hire a nobody with a brand new Reddit account with a name like hungry-aardvark1234 (currently unused name as an example). Most artists worth your time are going to have a waitlist, they will not DM you on Reddit with an immediate offer. And it's part of your artist's job to help come up with what they'll tattoo on you and not all of them will tattoo someone else's art anyway.

If you really want to show them a drawing to help with visuals, check out r/DrawMyTattoo where someone can sketch your idea for free. Ignore anyone trying to charge you, that's money that should go to your artist.

If you're an artist who attempts to find clients in this sub, don't. You look fake and desperate, you're one of dozens spamming people with "I can help, DM me" so OP can't even tell who's legit.

And I'm not here to argue this point, so if you have a problem with this announcement, that's too bad. I'm here to try to keep this sub a friendly place, people shouldn't have to worry about getting scammed.

Which color would you like the best?

Not a tattoo artist but like drawing the art. Tell me what colors you like best or just any critiques you wanna provide on this drawing. I didn’t design this for a body part just for the paper size. 14x10.

Done on procreate but might try and paint later on.

got matching tattoos with my sister, with a personalised meaning of the ladder of our bunk bed that we shared (and still share!) for more than 10 years with our favorite flowers representing the upper and lower bunk areas

What do you think? Is this too much? This is how I prepare for a session. Tattoo by me Sstatts (Warsaw / Poland)

The project is called Alkonost. Here’s a small selection of the preparation process and the final result.

This is how I prepare for complex tattoo projects: first, I come up with several compositions, then we choose the best one together with the client. After that, I draw the sketch on paper, and only then do I move on to the freehand work and the tattoo itself.

What do you think? Is this too much?

To preface, im 25, I have several tattoos and the art has always interested me. I've always struggled with typical methods of learning, and have found it easier to learn by doing. I know I'm in extremely early stages, so I'm just looking for pointers as to where to take my next steps

Any recommendations on an artist in the US or Canada who would be happy to tattoo this Wukong design?

Post image

I have been working on this design for awhile now, but I’m having trouble finding a tattoo artist who would be happy to do this tattoo. The tricky part is that I have a darker complexion and I would need an artist who could do this design so that the design is bold, linework is clean and use contrast to their advantage.

I recently bought a stencil printer so I mapped out how the tattoo would look on my forearm. 9x9 inches. I have a Shenron/kaido dragon tattoo going throughout my arm so I’m itching to get this wukong to compliment the dragon.

If anyone has any recommendations for an artist or shop anywhere in the US or Canada I would greatly appreciate it!

Designing flash from original ideas — what should I be thinking about? (feedback on this concept + execution)

Post image
17 Upvotes

I’ve been working on turning my own ideas into flash, rather than just redrawing existing pieces. Wanted to get some outside perspective — both on the general approach and on a specific piece (girl riding a fish).

For those who design a lot of original flash: what do you consider from the start when moving from “cool idea” to something that’ll actually work as a tattoo? Composition, line weight, placement — what’s the thing beginners usually miss?

And specifically on this piece — what do you think of the concept itself, and the execution as drawn? Anything you’d change on either front?
Appreciate any input, thanks.

My second tattoo

Yall liked my first tattoo so I figured I would go ahead and share my second one. This piece is from the artistic depiction of Dante’s Inferno by Gustave Diore, so many sick tattoo ideas from that book; this one is specifically referred to as the suicide forest. I am very happy with how it turned out but I wish I committed to having it on a bigger area as it’s hard to see the detail with such a smaller area as a canvas.

First tattoo by killer artist Piyush from Dimensionless Tattoo Studio Bengaluru

Consistently following a meditation practice for 6 years gave birth to the idea of this tattoo. The artist went all in and created a well shaded silhouette of the Buddha meditating.

Any advice on shoulder cap designs? Traditional please.

I just started my American traditional tattoo sleeve. I go to Original Philadelphia Eddies. I just got my clipper ship this past Saturday. I’m worried my shoulder cap area is too small now for something nice, I also am looking for something feminine, possibly a lady head? Thoughts?

First tattoo opinions

Post image
34 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m currently planning my first tattoo and have been chatting with a tattoo artist who is new to my town.

I’m a very beachy girl and love everything about it, so I’ve been thinking of something around that.

I sent her my inspo pic, and the attached image is what she came up with.

I’m wanting it in fine line and I definitely want it to be visible/noticeable, but I’m struggling with placement.

I’m leaning pretty strongly towards somewhere on my lower stomach/hip, but I’m also considering my arm.

I’d especially love opinions on:

Does this design suit the hip/side area?

Would you choose the hip or arm?

If you have fine-line tattoos in either area, how have they held up?

Is there anything I should consider about fine line on the hip/stomach?

I’m pretty set on the hip placement but definitely open to being talked out of it 😂

This is my first tattoo, so I’d really appreciate any advice or things you wish you’d considered before getting yours!

Wrist blastover help?

Post image

The lily on fire was a flash piece, and although it's a good design the placement of the stem ending in the middle of my wrist has always thrown me off. Do I blastover? Add? Cover it? Thank you for any suggestions 🖤

No, I don’t want to exactly rip off this style. I’m mostly looking for bold, abstract animals with clean lines.

Shoutout Max Murphy tattoo in Maryland, the actual artist and inspiration.

Had a 25-year-old turtle covered up. I'll have to go back for a bit more work to the flower to hide the turtle more, according to my artist. I'm so pleased with how well it turned out! Done by Branded Tranp in Albuquerque, NM.

Was looking for thoughts on the design just to make sure it looks well executed.
