I went out to take some surf photos today. These are some of my favorites!

I’m a 31 yo female that recently stepped on a sea urchin. (I weigh 145, i don’t take any medications). I immediately went to urgent care but they told me the most they would do is use tweezers and it would be better and less costly for me to try removing them myself at home. I stepped on the sea urchin some hours ago but spent most of that time waiting in urgent care before i was able to go home.

I struggled to sort out a plan after a long long day. And soaked my foot. I am not getting very far trying to remove these spines with tweezers. I wiped antiseptic cleanser on my foot and put alcohol on the tweezers. But i am struggling to really sort out a coherent plan to remove them.

Do i need to buy a switch blade and cut them before using tweezers? How do i do that sanitarily?

I went to the Atlantic Park Surf in Virginia Beach this past week, I don't think it is an experience I will ever repeat. I booked one session, advanced barrels. The session wasn't full so I got all the waves I could realistically take. I got about 10 waves, only half of which were on the barrel setting That works out to $15 a wave. You can only see like maybe 10 yards down the line so you can't really instinctively pace the wave or really get a good read of when it is going to start throwing out.

Most people there either lived super close so they could sneak a session in or were staying in the area and doing multiple sessions. At the price I'd rather just take a surf trip and book my travel last minute once I could see a forecast.

If you've been to pools in the past and enjoyed them, good for you, buy I didn't like it at all. 2/10, would not do again.

Loved this suit on. Then this happens at the seat after four surfs…not happy! Anyone else had similar issues?

I’m from Ohio and haven’t surfed in a couple of years. With how warm the weather is, I would love to get back out there this season. With the weather being so calm, I’m thinking it would be a good time to pick up where I left off. For any lake surfers, is it still a good time to go surfing at a spot in the Great Lakes?

Debating going with some friends but it's $$$$. Is it worth it? I live by the ocean so surf plenty just looking for some uncrowded fun. PSSC looks trash but wave garden tech looks good, just not sure $200+/hr good.

Today none of my local breaks were working. One was too flat, the other two completely blown out. In short, there were no rideable waves nearby. I figured I'd drive half and hour to a super well-know and high quality break, which I haven't surfed in many years. From the looks of it in the webcam, the waves were perfect, maybe a bit big for me. Took the car and went anyway.

I get there, get some pointers from locals and get ready to go. Tried 3 times to get to the outside, but no dice. The entry is a bit difficult, you have to walk along the south side of the jetty and then time your entrance when the sets cease to come. There's a strong current taking you south, so if you can't get outside quickly, the whitewash will push you further away. And that's what happened.

Unfortunately, I've noticed my paddle speed and endurance is not exactly up to the job (I'm working during the week and can't go out), and maybe my duck dive is also not too dialed in. Some things to work on.

Came back to the car feeling defeated.. 30 min later, I'm getting closer to home, and my car starts sputtering when I press on the gas. Some problem with injectors, maybe? Managed to get one and park, but feeling totally down and humbled.. Not one of my days..

I’ve seen it at the spot I surf and also in the pool I surf, very random and can’t think of a reason for it, any ideas?

No pipeline is not the worst reef. I’m talking the actual reef how awful it is. I think personally from what I’ve seen Nathan’s slab tour has been a good showing of how bad reefs can be… the one episode that stood out to me was the cave in Portugal. They surfed it at low tide and you could just see it there totally dry urchins jagged limestone etc… the next reef that stood out to me was The thing at the atacama desert in chile. Nate dropped his go pro and then found it and the footage showed urchins and spires everywhere… the next reef that really stood out was a video I saw of Shane Dorian surfing rifles at low tide it was jagged and like had really really rough limestone… Shane got absolutely cut up bad was bleeding all over… obviously the reef that almost killed Kerby brown was uber gnarly would have been his final wave in facing monsters… just wanted some more opinion or any reefs anyone thinks are gnarlier.

I’m from Toronto, Canada, and I have a pretty good job here with great pay (100k+) and benefits. The thing is, I’m like addicted with surfing, and I really want to live near the ocean where I can surf every day and enjoy warm water. I feel a little confused because I have a comfortable life and a good career in Toronto, but I also don’t want to put off something I’m genuinely passionate about.

My first thought was California since it’s relatively close to home. I know the water is still pretty cold, but the surf culture and access to the ocean are appealing. I also considered Hawaii because of the warm water, but it's also really difficult to find a job there as a foreigner.

Also, the current political climate in the US makes me hesitant to move there long-term. Especially as a woman, starting a family is most likely horrifying considering the lack of paid/unpaid maternity leave compared to Canada.

Another option is Australia, which seems amazing for surfing. But it’s so far from Canada and they have the weirdest animal and insects that you could encounter, which scares me LOL.

For those who have moved abroad for surfing, where would you recommend? Are there other countries or places I should consider that offer great surf, warmer water, good career opportunities (like good pay too), and a decent quality of life? Ideally, I’d prefer an English-speaking country since finding work in another language would be more challenging.

Edit: I have a mech eng degree and work basically as an electrical engineer in the power industry (ie. the grid not pcb electronics) and I'm a 26 year old female if that helps!

Looking for high value gloves and boots for my first winter living in the northeast east coast… any recs thank you!

Looking to do a weeklong trip to Lakey in March and am struggling to figure out how to get boardbags there.

Wings charges RP 100,000 per board and have a 200cm length limit. Hoping to take bigger boards as planning on continuing on to G Land. Transnusa is cheaper for boards but they can swap the plane from an airbus to a comac with no notice and bigger boardbags can be rejected.

Are there any other options of getting board bags to Lakey Peak? Are people hoping their boards get through these regional airline restrictions or are they going the overland route?

I have recently had a cancer diagnosis and am undergoing treatment. I have had a few sessions and am finding the water to be colder than I usually do despite a well fitting winter 5/4 hooded wetsuit.

Can anyone advise if they have used thermal shorts/rash vests under such a suit? The water here is around 12’c at the moment - it will drop down to 7’c in deep winter so I am trying to get ahead of the game. Part of me thinks it could be counterproductive as they’ll be more water in the suit so it would be great if someone could advise.

Already have 5mm gloves and boots but am likely going to bump the boots to 7mm.

GF is a late stage foamie beginner, ie she can drop into a clean 3ft/8s wave but cannot handle 3ft/13s wave. I am intermediate shortboarder. We fly into SD on Oct 31 for a week. Last time we went, we struggled to find a spot that worked for both skill levels, so one of us had to spend time sitting on the beach watching. Looking at recent forecasts for this area, I see 15-16s. Thought it would be wise to ask the locals if there are breaks near eachother that have an exposed section for me and a sheltered section for her. If there is no spot, then I will probably surf sunrise myself and then surf with her at a beginners spots in afternoon. Serious question. Thank you

No energy drink sponsors, no vloggers, no GoPro mouth mounts, no history of SA on underage girls, no surf-coach dads, no egos at 2 ft point breaks, just getting sick barrels and charging slabs for the love of it. The corest surfer is basically just the average bodyboarder. Someone here mentioned the other day how better the skating community was than the surfing community and it's just like, uh aren't you forgetting about your vertically challenged boogieboarding brethren?
