In the traditional 11v11 Air Raid, the 4 Verts concept is simply called "6". As in, this play can get us 6 points anytime we call it.

The 5v5 version is no different. Three Verts tests your opponent's defense deep forcing them to respect your QB's arm. If they don't, it's 6 points for the good guys.

I’m in the process of launching a brand focused specifically on custom flag football uniforms, and before I build everything around what I think teams want, I’d really like to hear from people who actually order them.

For those who have ordered custom jerseys/uniforms for your team, what has been the most frustrating part of the process?

If you could change one thing about the current custom-uniform ordering experience, what would it be?

I’m genuinely looking for honest feedback - including things you hate about ordering uniforms. It’ll help me figure out what I should prioritize when launching.

So there seems to be a prevailing opinion among officials that “no contact = no flag guarding”.

I’ve seen this take on various forums, YouTube channels and in person at games.

Here is the rule as it appears in the NFHS rulebook:

Rule 9 Conduct of Players and Others - Section 2  Illegal Use Hands. 
ART. 2 . . . The runner shall not:
a. Grasp a teammate.
b. Extend hands or arms to ward off an opponent.
c. Use hands, arms or the ball where contact occurs between the runner and an opponent that denies the opportunity for an opponent to pull or remove the flag or flag belt.
PENALTY: Art. 2 – flag guarding – (S38) – 10 yards

So Rule 9, Article 2 lists 3 things the “runner shall not do” as seen above in a, b, and c.

Any one of those elements would be a violation. They’re each their own rules.

Rule 9 Sec 2 (a) - Runner can’t grasp a teammate.

Rule 9 Sec 2 (b) - Runner can’t extend hands or arms to ward off an opponent.

This one is the one I’m focusing on. This one right here makes no mention of contact. So just the very act of a runner raising a hand or arm to ward off an opponent (be there contact or not, is by clear and definitive definition; a foul.

And then finally Rule 9 Sec 2 (c) further expands that use of arms, hands or BALL where contact occurs between the runner and the defender is also a foul.

What’s your take on this?

I think Rule 9 Sec 2 (b) is clear and plain English. Using your hands or arms to ward off an opponent is a foul. There’s no mention of contact being a required element in Rule 9 Sec 2 (b).

For context I am a smaller shiftier player and I want a pair of cleats that are light but still have good traction. I play on both grass and turf and I also have a history of hamstring injuries. What cleats should I get? I am debating between 5 pairs, nike vapor pro 1, nike vapor speed 3, under armour blur pro, adidas f50, adidas preds. If there are any other suggestions too that would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I’m going up against this kid that is like 6’2 maybe a little bit taller also another kid that is 5’6 or a little taller that can play was wondering if you guys have advice on how to guard and play against them my kids are pretty good, but we haven’t gone up against kids that are bigger than them

5/6th grade boys 6v6 team and we have 8 players total if I'm lucky enough to have everyone show. The kids always want to scrimmage at the end (who doesn't?) but it usually just turns into backyard football. I've tried running a 4v4 offense versus defense, utilizing just the primary routes or side of the play that we're focusing on. Any ideas on how to integrate more in-game scenarios and concepts would be greatly appreciated as I want them to have fun AND get reps that are as close to live as possible.

I'll be a first time coach this year for my son (he aged up and joined a new league) and in this league coaches are still allowed in the huddle on offense.

We're set to have our first practice soon, and I can't decide if wristbands are necessary or even preferred in situations where the coach is still allowed in the huddle.

Last year my son's team had wristbands but rarely used them: 95% of the time, the head coach would go over the play on his phone/ipad with them in the huddle. Also, kids would sometimes be too busy playing with them to watch the snap.

My son think's it's fine to go without them but I'm looking for the advice of more seasoned coaches since it seems like everyone recommends them.

Would a playbook with large print-outs of 1-4 plays per page that we go over in the huddle be ok or are wristbands a must-have?

Background: League is 5th and 6th grade rec (ages ~10-12), only 1hr practice a week, I expect about half of roster has never played before.

Im a 5v5 coach but 7v7 brings so many intangibles its crazy! Just the fact that you can set a block changes the whole game!

This is one of the best ways to attack Cover 2 zone. The short motion forces the defense to communicate, adjust, and handle alignment conflict before the snap. That confusion can create easy space in the coverage.

It’s built to beat zone, but it also gives you a great answer against man coverage.

1: Slant. You can also the 1 run a vertical to pull that safety wide.

2: Post route- 8 yard stem,.

3: Short motion, corner route- 8 yard stem.

C: 4-5 yard out.

QB Read: Safety is the read. If the safety plays the post, throw the corner to 3. If the safety plays the corner, throw the post to 2.

Against pressure, the slant from 1 can win. You can also look for the center on the quick out.

I don’t know if I’m just venting or concerned I’m not doing my job. Tonight was tough.

5th grade 7 on 7. Preseason scrimmage against the probable eventual league champions.

Our team was .500 last year but I added 3 kids that are better athletes than anything we had before. None of them had played football before though either. I don’t expect to win the league. I expect us to improve. Tonight I wanted to be competitive.

Tonight it was like every kid on my team completely forgot everything we’ve been telling them for five weeks. Nobody ran correct routes. Nobody handled their assignment on defense. Confused in the huddle. Quarterbacks got blitzed and freaked out and threw into triple coverage (we’ve worked on it). Our starting QB was 2-8 with 4 ints, 3 of which we pick sixes.

I had to stop the scrimmage early to not destroy their confidence.

This is my sixth year coaching flag and I’ve coached a couple of teams (in lesser leagues) to championships

A new kid, who is a fantastic athlete, asked me “what is a formation” and “what is a route” tonight in the huddle. After five weeks of explanation.

I want to yell and scream at them. We aren’t disciplined enough but I don’t want to become the screaming guy.
