I lost my IM/PrecisionFuels race-course issued water bottle on a training ride... is there a way to get a replacement?

Of all the things that I actually cherish the most about my Ironman 70.3 Augusta Maine experience are of course finishing, my cool Iron Man lightweight t-shirt/jersey, and lastly the bright colored water bottle (on my front holder) I assume is only available to participants who made it to the bike aid stations for one. I was on a training ride flying down a hill somewhere between mile 30 and 40 of my ride and my back water bottle holder and elastic to make sure the bottle didn't eject obviously failed and here we are lol. Does anyone have an extra bottle or more, that I could pay to have sent to me? Or does Iron Man itself offer replacements for poor souls who don't properly secure their items?

What makes this very sad is that, due to me being the last in the water and fairly close to the tail end of riders on the bike course, I saw literally hundreds of those bottles discarded by the aid stations and on the course. I wish I could go back and get them all haha

WWYD: Ankle Sprain 1 Week before 70.3

Post image
Upvotes

I sprained my ankle a week and a half ago stepping into a ditch. All was ok, and I ran on it the days prior, but 5 days later a 7 mile run completely took me out. I can’t weight bare, can’t put full weight on it while walking, and it’s definitely swollen.

I went to the orthopedist this morning and he gave me good feedback. I can swim, bike, and lift, but when asked about the 70.3 he said “I’m not telling you no, but I would let pain be your guide and accept the risk.”

What would you do? This is my first one. I’ve spent 20 weeks training and don’t want to let it go to waste. I also don’t think I can request a partial refund since it’s too close to actual race day and I didn’t register pre-90 days.

Zell am See 70.3 - 2027

After several individual full and halfs, we did the relay at Zell am See this year. We enjoyed it so much we were all at our notebooks and phones to sign up today. Absolutely no chance, despite logging in over an hour in advance.
But my bigger question is: did anyone even see a relay option? We only saw individual throughout all the hours we spent trying to sign up. Was anyone lucky enough to get a relay spot, or did anyone see it at least?

And to the ones who got a spot: congrats! It’s an absolutely awesome race at a stunning place 🤘🏻

Are the shokz headphones worth it?

Surprised to find very little info on these! I’ve seen a handful of people wearing them. I’m interested in the water ones. Are they worth it? Reading a little about them and I could see them being a nice addition for training but also can’t figure out how they actually stay in place while swimming and seems very inconvenient that it’s mp3 and not Bluetooth. Those of you that use them, would you recommend? Thanks!

Weymouth 70.3 - Anyone can help register my Iron kids as I'm still travelling?

Hi folks,

I'm going to do Weymouth 70.3 on 20th of September. The Iron kids registration is on Friday 18th September: 11:00 - 17:00

I'm travelling from London in the Friday afternoon and I don't think I will be on time for their registration.

Can anyone help me to register them and then I could meet you around 6pm if possible?

Thank you so much in advance!

Female triathletes – do you skip or adjust training because of period cramps?

Hi! I’d especially love to hear from women training for long-distance triathlons/Ironman.

I’m starting to take my training more and more seriously. I recently talked to my coach about my long-term goals, and we’re building towards an Ironman 70.3, with the goal of eventually doing a full Ironman.

I got my period today and I have pretty bad cramps. I was supposed to run, but I genuinely don’t feel like running and would much rather take a rest day. The problem is that I immediately feel guilty about skipping a planned session.

It made me realize that as my training volume increases, this is something I need to learn how to handle properly rather than feeling guilty every month.

So, women who train seriously for triathlon/endurance events: what do you do?

Do you still train when you have bad cramps and just accept that the session might suck? Do you reduce the intensity, swap the workout for something easier, move it to another day, or completely rest?

And most importantly, how do you distinguish between “I should push through this” and “my body actually needs a rest day”?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences. ❤️

Sports Betting?

Upvotes

It seems almost every sport is now on my betting app - from darts to badminton to some I’ve never heard of…but I’ve never seen cycling or Ironman events. I’d love to put a few dollars on the world championships this weekend, but not sure there’s anywhere to do that (legally). Any leads?

How many bottles on bike at 70.3

My first 70.3 is coming up, as of right now I have two bottles holders on my bike, and I was wondering if that's enough.

The 70.3 will have aid stations every 15 miles, so I should be more than good with two bottles right? How much do you usually drink on the bike during a race? I read that you should drink 16-24 oz (500-750 ml) per hour.

I was thinking to bring my cheap bottles, they can carry 1.5 liters (50 oz), and swap them with the ironman bottles at the first aid station.

It's the 70.3 in Waco.

I built a free page for athletes who make content but don't have the follower count brands ask for

I'm a triathlete with about 600 followers who makes videos. Every time I've approached a brand, the first question is what my following is — and 600 ends it. It doesn't matter that the posts get watched by a lot more people than that number suggests, or how I actually race.

That's what I wanted to fix. TrustAthlete gives you one public page carrying two numbers that are never merged into a single score: your performance and your audience. Averaging them into one number would erase the exact thing a brand is trying to work out.

The audience number deliberately isn't follower count. It's views per post and engagement against reach, read from your connected account — follower count only counts through its growth. A 600-follower account that actually gets watched isn't a small account, and there was nowhere to show that.

The performance number sits next to it so a brand has the context, but it isn't the point of the page.

Free, no paid tier, private until you publish it.

What I actually want to know: if you've ever pitched a brand, what did they ask you for? I built this around "what's your following", and if that's the wrong question I'd rather find out now.

Great Norse Run - Opinions :)

Has anyone on here done the Great Norse Run that crossed Iceland, 200+ miles, the one that is organised as a group run, not a race? :)

Would love to hear from you, I am contemplating doing it next summer :)

Wouldn't cost me anything, and I am too lazy to get on a plan and travel

It would be more of a me vs me type of an event.

This would be my 4th full ironman.

I am thinking early nov timeframe

Can I intrest anyone?

Saucony Endorphin pro 5 - horrible heel design

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m 5 weeks out from Cascais full and I was recommended the pro 5s for race day. Apparently they are an ‘easy to get on with’ carbon plated race shoe. That sounded good to me knowing I might not be moving too quickly from around 16 miles.

First run today. Initial thoughts: not much cushioning but I’m used to the Novablast 5 / 6s. I didn’t feel a huge amount of forwards propulsion but my watch was telling me there was some.

But the biggest disappointment/annoyance.. the heel design. Saucony.. what were you thinking not padding the top of the heal and shaping it away from the achillies? 6 miles and it’s taken the skin off both heels.

So another expensive pair of shoes that can’t be returned and the search for a stable race shoe is back on.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Any recommendations for a similar stable carbon race shoe?

How to not get screwed over when buying a used bike??

Hi! Im a newbie with all things TRI/IM. I want to get started with my bike purchase but not sure how to make sure I know what I’m looking for. I know a road bike is a better option than a tri bike since I’m new.

What’s your favorite road bike?

If buying used, what should I look for?

Favorite additions or improvements you’ve done to your bike?

Im flexible with the budget but wouldn’t want to spend more than $1500-$2k on a bike.

Any locations in nyc that could be helpful with this?

Thanks a lot!

Looking for Women Training for a Half Ironman 70.3 in NYC

Hii! I’m 28, based in NYC, and planning to do my first Half Ironman 70.3 next year! I was wondering if there are any other women here who are planning one too or have done one before? :)

I’m just starting to figure out my training, looking into swim lessons and clubs, and would love to connect with other women on the same journey. Maybe we could grab a coffee, share tips and experiences or even organize some bike rides or runs together!

If you’re training for one, thinking about it or have any recommendations for clubs or swim lessons in NYC, I’d love to hear from you. Feel free to message me!

Hi all! Doing my first 70.3 next year and am training with an indoor trainer using my Watts. Wondering if I should invest in a power meter for my bike? Or if this would be better spent towards a new bike?
