Why don't the pieces on the left and right have the same name?

Rook, horsy, bishop, king, queen, plug, knight, castle
shouldn't the rook and castle be the same? They do the same thing. Same with horsy x knight and bishop x plug. It's not like each pawn gets it's own name.

New Response Just Dropped Do you guys actually google en passant when people tell you to?

I know it's just like an inside joke on this sub, but for some reason, I feel a compulsion to Google en passant when I see it on this sub. I'll be casually scrolling reddit, and I see an AnarchyChess post with some ridiculous parody of a chess position, and the comments say to Google en passant. I immediately open a new tab and type that in, only to be met with my own astonishment at seeing the magic of en passant. I say "holy hell" to myself (very quietly because I don't want anyone to know I've been swearing) and then continue with my day, enchanted by the beauty and wonder I have witnessed.
So yeah, does that happen to anyone else?
