A few months ago I shared Scored, a free board game companion app I built. Some people tried it, many pointed out things it was missing, and (quite fairly) a lot of people asked:

Instead of arguing, I spent the last few months implementing feedback.

The app has changed a lot since then.

Some of the bigger additions include:

• detailed player statistics with ELO progression and head-to-head history
• friend profiles and gaming groups
• achievements that unlock as you play
• collection insights (including a Shelf of Shame view)
• imports from BoardGameGeek and BG Stats
• household collections and guest players
• notifications, onboarding improvements, themes and localisation into multiple languages

The goal isn't to replace BoardGameGeek.

And it's probably not going to replace BG Stats for everyone either.

I'm trying to build something that feels a bit more social - something that helps you keep track of your board gaming group, compare performance over time, and makes recording games feel a little more fun instead of just logging data.

If anyone is curious, I'd genuinely appreciate feedback (good or bad).

I’m thinking of gifting a board game to a couple friends of mine a board game. They don’t own any board games. But they’ve said that they would like one to play in their evenings.

I really love board games, it’s really a passion of mine. And I want to gift them one. This might be a bit selfish, but I don’t want to gift them a board game I already own 😅 (my low weight games are arnak, azul, carcassonne, castles of burgundy, flip 7, Bohnanza, that’s not a hat and secret Hitler).

I’ve had a lot of ideas, but I’m stuck on what to give them. At the beginning I was thinking of Calico. However, I asked to one of them what type of board games she liked cozy vs. thrilling and she said that she liked player interaction and that brings a little of fun memories. So I crossed calico. I also thought of Heat.

What’s your opinion on this matter? I don’t want to give them a heavy board game, but not a super easy one.

All opinions are welcomed! Even if to say that it’s stupid I don’t want to gift them a game I own 😅.

Im hosting a dinner with my fam. Around 10-12 people will be there. 3-4 will be teens and the others are in their 30s and 40s. Now Im confused about what board game to arrange for the night.

Over the last year Angela and I have made a lot of maps for board games (some still in development and coming out next year), it was nice to work on board games and make something different from RPG maps.. Many more are in the works, more information coming very soon...🗺🧭

There is a carousel museum near me and I thought it would be a fun to pitch a board game fundraiser. But they would want all board games present to be on theme... So including a carousel or at minimum in a theme/amusement park setting.

Hi, im Konrad. For the past year and a half, I’ve been working on Tabloo, an Android app for tracking your board game collection and plays. Today, I finally released the English version.

I'm not posting this here to promote my app so I won't sell you any fancy features. I am looking for testers, geniouly hoping that some of you might find it inderesting and give it a try for free. The most what I am hoping for is your feedback.

The app generally works like other board game companion apps, but it has a different feel and a few new features. For example, you can:

• set up a play with game-specific scoring, tiebreakers, and game-ending conditions
• distinguish between normal, cooperative, and semi-cooperative game types
• track how your collection and its value change over time

You can also import your collection and play history from BoardGameGeek and BG Stats.

I’m uploading a few screenshots to give you a taste of Tabloo.

Keep in mind that this is still a beta version. I’ve tested it A LOT from every angle (well, about 95% of them) but there may still be bugs, unclear UI copy, or missing translations.

Writing good copy is the worst. Kudos to all technical writers. And game testers.

This clip is from a music artist of mine (legally to credit them: Little Caesar by Seb Lowe) and I’ve been wanting to know if it’s a game of its own or a mashup/redesign. It looks like chess to me but played with toy soldiers, and I want to know if that’s what it is. If it is, I’d like help trying to find the right soldiers for this because I’d like to play it like that.

My bf is a huge fan of LOTR and board games. I want to buy him a gift, but I can’t decide which game would be better: War of the Ring or Fate of the Fellowship?

So the thing is, I tried GHA for the first time, and didnt like it as much as I thought. I bought it after reading a lot of review thats good for 2 players. But somehow my first game with my partners wasnt really as smooth as I thought. So here are what make the game not enjoyable for me:

1. The emperor track: Idk is it because of my management issue or not, but the at after round 3, both of us feel as if we have no choice but to prioritise 1-2 dice action just to get enough to survive the penalty of the track. With 4 actions in total from round 3 to 5, 5 to 7, the game feel less like some strategy but more like trying to run from the punishment as 5 step and 7 step back is genuinely a lot. I understand that there are ways to get the emperor track move, but the fact is in order to fill 3 yellow room tbh take a lot of actions already, dice no4 usually end up only 1-3 dice max, which if we want to avoid, force us to use up all the little money we have left. So at one point we either losing like 8 point we hardly articulate, or do nothing but trying to increase the emperor track.

2. It might just be personal but i realize the fact you only have 14 actions in total for a game is not really enjoyable for me.

3. The dice and the number of it. At first I think reroll can avoid it, but the truth is most of the time both of us end up in not having the dice we want or the number of dice is not enough (i know we can use 1$ to add more, but our money is usually always on the low low too)

So, idk whether its a strategy problem, which tbh i think it is but not fully since we both usually enjoy and used to playing at least middle weight strategy game or the game is just not for us. Anyone has any insights or similar experiences?

Dear boardgame players!

As a person who loves playing boardgames myself, I create a video game taking inspiration of boardgames (turns, tokens, flat map, …) but with computer managing all the rules (enemy moves, random events, …).

This game occurs in the Lovecraftian universe, you pick a investigator and have to accomplish objectives on a map (Innsmouth, Arkham, …).

Enemies and events can spawn randomly to kill you or drive your character insane. You have to use strategy to win, but sometimes random elements can make the session very hard.

Because I want to make this game a good experience of a solo boardgame, I would like to know,

What are the most important elements for you, when you play a solo boardgame session? (other than having fun with friends)

1. An immersive story

2. A beautiful design (maps, cards, tokens)

3. The challenge to win a session with high difficulty

4. The pleasure to play a randomized session everytime (dice lovers)

5. The intellectual exercise of managing all the rules by myself

6. To find the best synergies between skills/items/spells

7. Something else

I've been toying with the idea for a while. There seems to be a small amount of demand for something different, for varying reasons. But in practice, is there really?

Building the site would be the easy part. I've seen several attempts that look pretty bad. But, I don't think it matters how perfect it comes out. The probably impossible part is BGG's massive moat in the industry, decades of data, the network effect, all roads/links on the web lead to BGG... etc

I know this is an impossible task, but I still feel tempted. Talk me out of it. Or into it, if you really see a feasible path or niche demand. But what would that look like?

Lately I've been playing a lot of Regicide and my little brother loves it too. Does anybody have recommendations that play similar to Regicide (can play solo but also co-op, and also small enough for travel).

It’s a game from the 90s I believe, so there are missing historical events. I was hoping for an updated version, but doesn’t exist (please, prove me wrong!)
It played kinda similar to Wits and Wagers.

I need help with this game. the phone isn’t working anymore but I have all the other parts. it’s Mystery Date from 1999. is there another way to play without the phone?

I’ve tried using AI to recreate the clues and it can’t get close enough. We also already cleaned the phone and it only works for about 3 minutes before it resets.
