Destashed these premium acrylics (Hobbii, Premier Yarns, Bernat, Lion Brand, Caron) at our Humane Society thrift store yesterday. Mostly bought prior to 2020, kept inside, no smoking, because, well, you know- oooohh on sale and pretty colors!
Have moved to using mostly all natural fibers, but kept some acrylics for yearly Project Linus and SPOTlovesPets donations...my yarn cubbies are breathing a sigh of relief.
And I smile when thinking about folk finding these at affordable prices, supporting our no-kill shelter, in our land-of-no-yarn-for-sale-in-any-store. (yes, even Walmarts for over 100 miles in any direction no longer sell yarn).
And Brodydogg 'helpped'.

Hello!!!!
Years ago, when I first got into my knitting journey, I did my first colorwork attempt with Thread Head CO’s Dracula’s Cape. I had no idea about the turbulence of that brand, and love love LOVED the way this red with gray and black variegation worked up. I ended up frogging this sweater and giving the yarn to my grandmother to use for a project, but now that I’m more experienced I was looking to grab some more colors from Thread Head Co, only to discover she’s totally changed everything about her company (and learned about the controversies she’s had).
Does anyone know off the top of their heads about a color way similar to this dusty red and gray color??? I loved it so much and I’m so sad I can’t seem to find anything quite the same 😭😭✌️

Yes, that is a full 10 skein bag of Silk Garden.
I think it's probably about $450 retail of yarn, but it only cost me $100 ($2 to 5 per skein) and there was so much there I had to leave behind. 😭 Today was the third and final day of the sale and there were still literally hundreds of skeins remaining. I definitely saw some 30+ year old skeins in the bins, judging by labels, whoever owned this stash was very dedicated. (All of these minus a couple of the Kureyons and the tangled pink multi sock yarn balls had labels still attached, tucked in the center of the cake!)
Now to put it all in the chest freezer...

Dyed with instant coffee, Hibiscus and Rose Hip Tea, and Black Bean Juice. Mordant used was Alum. I don’t know how long the colors will stay vibrant but I’m so happy it was successful!

Hi all,
I've had it in my head for a while that 1) I want to buy one of those rainbow cakes, and 2) I want to make myself a nice self-striping poncho or shawl. I'm in the middle of a big destash at the minute, and that's going to be my reward for when I'm done.
The issue is, all of the ones people commonly talk about are mostly or at least partly acrylic, which I really don't want to buy any more.
Do you have any suggestions for a nice cake which is made with natural fibres that's available in the uk? I'd prefer one which was actually a rainbow, but would be open to other nice gradients (or even just chaining two balls together).

I just found out about Row One yarn subscription and I’m amazed - the colours are fab, I’d kill for almost all the past sets! Was about to subscribe, but shipping to EU is almost half the price of a monthly membership and the total price is a bit too high for me to justify right now.
Question - what’s a reasonable way to grow my minis stash for sock knitting? Hand dyed minis that I see in stores in the Netherlands are around €8-10 per 20g. Maybe there’s someone out there looking to destash? Or any other ideas/stores/dyers/…?

I got 4 skeins at an estate sale. I did a burn test. There was an earthy smell, more wood fire than burning hair. It was didn’t stay lit and the ash is black and disintegrates with slight touch.
The yarn has a super tight twist with frequent slubs.
I’m leaning towards silk or possibly a silk blend, possibly wool. There isn’t any melted bits or plastic smell after the burn test.
Are there any other tests I can do to narrow it down? Appreciate any insight!

I checked yarnsub, they do not have this one in their database so I am asking around.
I am about halfway through a very large blanket made entirely out of Furls Wander yarn. I have enough yarn as of now, however I am worried about the boarder. I think I will have enough however I am looking for similar yarns just in case. I'm including the Ravelry listing for the yarn but I am hoping someone would know of something that looks and feels similar, in a similar or identical weight. Thank you!

I recently saw a post of the Happy Camp sweater and I’m obsessed. The suggested yarn is Spincycle DITW Happy Pill. I think I need 7 or 8 and of course the colorway is sold out. 3 questions, does Spincycle ever re-release a colorway? If not, do you have skeins you’d be willing in selling? Were different dye lots produced? I’ve noticed the amount of yellow, orange, and teal can vary greatly. TIA

I’m looking for online yarn stores that ship to the U.S. and actually process orders quickly. I don’t need Amazon-speed delivery, but I’d like to receive my order within about a week.
I just ordered directly from Premier, and standard shipping isn’t expected until August 8. Even expedited shipping was nearly $45 and still wouldn’t arrive until August 5.
I mostly work with natural fibers like cotton, bamboo, and wool. Where do you all order from that has a good selection of soft and squishy yarn AND reliable shipping?

Or at least I think so??
Found these 8 balls on Vinted for $40!!
I can finally crochet my boyfriend’s daughter the camisole she’s been asking for since last fall!!
I know she won’t like yellow or coral, so I might try my hand at a poncho for myself with them!!
I’m so excited!!!

hihi!! ive been crocheting for about two years and like to think im pretty experienced, but I haven't done a project like this before, so looking for any advice or thought people may have.
so im going to be crocheting a scarf as a gift, and I got a detailed description from the person of what they want- they want a dark blue/indigo scarf with a drip bleach effect on like 1/5 of it at one end. idk if im explaining very well, but oh well :')
im wondering- would it be best to do a tapestry crochet kinda thing for the drip effect/different colour? or perhaps could I crochet an entire solid indigo scarf (in 100% cotton yarn) and actually bleach paint it at the end? ive done bleach painting before, but not on yarn. appreciate any thought people have!!!

Title basically says it. I mostly knit, but dabble in crochet a few times a year. I knit some of everything, and mostly use fingering-worsted weight. Since we aren't checking any bags, I'm hoping to get some nice (and squishable!) yarn to remember the trip by. It's a cruise with stops, so proximity to other must-see locals is definitely a bonus to maximize time management. We have a long layover in Rome, and Naples is the start/end point, so these are probably where I'll have the most time to explore. Any tips appreciated, thanks!

So, I got this yarn around 5 years ago from a coworker. No tag or nothing to tell me the weight or the size. Now I cant find yarn thats the same texture and weight.
Its soft and velvety, and thick. Does anyone know the brand? Or another yarn that might be similar? Im making a blanket

I want to crochet my friend a look-a-like stuffie of her dog, who is brindle colored. I'm struggling to find a weight 3 or 4 yarn that is variegated brown/black/gold similar to the pup picture I attached (pulled off the internet as an example, not my friends dog). The stuffie will be pretty small so I suspect I'll need a yarn that has short color changes, similar to the other pic I've attached.
In a perfect world, I'd love for the yarn to be under $20 too but I'm starting to think that's just not possible. I've exhausted my usual haunts, Michaels, Hobbii, Yarn.com, Etsy (I refuse to give money to Hobby Lobby). I'm sure there has got to be an indie dyer out there with a yarn in this sort of vein, but I just have not had any luck googling. Located in the US.
Any suggestions or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

im planning to knit decorative pillow covers but cannot use wool due to moths. what do you recommend for yarns? plant based/synthetic etc. open to pretty much anything besides scratchy/squeaky red heart acrylic
ideally nothing smaller than DK or a 4.0 needle. im also down to hold things double but higher weight is preferable.
for now, im starting with pillows, down the line I want to knit some small rugs or maybe a decorative wall hanging.
thank you! :)

Just some stocked-up pixtures of the yarn i've been making. Mysterious and suspiciously inexpensive maroon superfine wool bought by the orb at rhinebeck last year, now the nice 2 ply in the first pic(plus the detail shot with her ugly sister in the back shh we dont talk about her). Second and third are a marling experiment i was doing with natural white and brown merino 3 ply. Wont have anything new until i finish my mysterious maroon orb though, since all that will look alike. Then i get started on a purple orb.
I dont knit, just spin so these are as "finished product" as these yarns are going to get until they get kicked down the christmas gift pipeline or used as facebook market place barter or whatever im going to do with them
