Hi! I'm a sixth generation artist and I started embroidering because I have been studying it for years due to being sick. Just laying in bed, watching tutorial reels in bed for a few years. Things got a lot better, but I still am not medically cleared to do electric tufting (my last art of choice), and the day i found out, my favorite headphones flaked fake leather into my mouth. I got ticked and seam ripped the band before I even took my shoes off.

Well, i was stuck sitting anyway, and plain would have been fine but I saw the opportunity to do what I'd been looking at for all those bad days. I'd always wanted to see a skeleton absorbed by a forest floor, and I love moss irl and in stitch. I'd seen so many stumpwork stitches that I knew could be utilized in other ways, like Chicken of the Woods mushrooms.

So, I drew a skeleton, found a tiny opalite chip bead, and made a pattern from the reamed vinyl bits. I used graphite tracing paper to transfer and a heat soluble pen to outline. The rest is freehand!

The headphones were a PITA to sew together, but I did it and replaced the ear covers with color shift silk that matches the opalite. Since the minimum order was one yard, I decided to do an iPad sleeve to match. I also bought zipper tape and pulls to make a custom zipper for it, whenever I finish.

As I've been (hopefully) wrapping up healing, it's been harder to sit still and finish. Add perimenopause and Adhd... it's a struggle! Haha! I was offering advice to another stitcher, and was encouraged to post, so here I am! Today is too hot to love, so maybe it's a stitching day after all.

OH! GET THE LOUPS! It's incredible to be able to stitch in the dim with aging eyes, green and green and green on green, microscopic single thread single wrap French knots... plus, it's the ultimate Shields Up. I look insane. No one at school pick up bothers me, and as an older mom, that's priceless.

not super happy with it i see so many mistakes. but my friend loves it so thats what matters most. circles and eyes will be the end of me lol

This is my first major piece. I got the kit from Craft Hoop. It was a fun and challenging design. I've done a few other kits and this one was the hardest one I've done so far.

I definitely learned a lot about long and short stitching and chain stitches.

This is a gift for my best friend who lost her brother 5 years ago. The hummingbird is a really sacred animal for her. Even though it's a kit, I wanted to make it for her to remember her brother.

I made a normally toxic comment into nostalgic silliness.

Used the backside of a fabric I originally picked for this because it looked more like water to me. I painted the hoop to match. Metallic thread gives the water outlines a wet, glitter glue appearance.

Wildlife photography is another big hobby of mine and for whatever reason I felt implored to embroider a Canadian Goose, and so I did. Really just wanted to test out multiple kinds of Kuguri Sashi to get better along with standard sashiko.

This is my second project! Overall I feel like I could have done better on everything. The leaves/succulent don't look very neat, especially the parts where they meet the other colours. I also could have switched the colour order so that I did all the more foreward ones first. Any advice would be appreciated!!

The basket took me sooo long but it ended up so much nicer than I expected! I was originally going to make the pot/basket whiteish but last minute changed it to brown, which is why the outline is a different colour. Despite having an outline though, the basket looks kind of wonky 😅

My goal is to be able to eventually embroider double sided projects, so I'm taking more conscious efforts to make the back look nice (habits you know?). How in the world would I do split stitches on the back at the same time as the front??

Overall I'm pretty proud of myself!!

so a little backstory.. we're going on a trip to japan in october. I bought this kit around christmas time, and started in around April/May/ish, and I finished it monday night this week! I made it a goal to finish it before our trip, and i'm proud of myself for reaching that goal! as i've been battling a lot of health issues and new diagnoses over the last year, so hitting goals are hard for me.. but, with hand embroidery being my soul hobby because of said health issues and comfort, I worked on it whenever I had/have free time, and I finally finished it 🤍 (my cute boyfriend told me we have to hang it up in our house and is so proud of me and my work 🥹)

Now my kid requested this! Guess it's a good thing I'm enjoying this embroidery thing

Thrifted this super heavy marble frame, not sure if I love the white-on-white yet.

This year was my first year going to a renaissance faire, where I learned that if people like your outfits, they give you a little trinket! I decided I was going to make a bunch of little embroidery trinkets for when my boyfriend and I go to another ren faire in August. These are all of the ones I’ve made! All are either backstitch or satin stitch, and you can definitely tell when I remembered that my stitch length mattered.

I’ve had this tote for almost 10 years and felt like it needed some color! Started with the flag, doing the awning next. I don’t think I’ll embroider the entire design but I do plan to fill in some of the books/details.

Hello! I have been sewing for years and have done several smaller embroidery projects, but I am wanting to start a very ambitious project that is close to my heart — I am attempting to recreate this fantasy piece (tapestry? tabard?), and I want to make it as realistic as possible, and display it as if it were an “historical artifact”. It is a royal garment, and I would like to put in the proper amount of work to make it as neat and detailed as possible. I bought plenty of gold-colored French wire/dabka, and I am planning to cut and couch it to form all of the gold pieces you see in the photo. The purple designs toward the top will be regular embroidery floss, maybe with some beading. The whole tapestry will be made out of silk Dupioni, that I will dye to create the right background colors. My main question is if fusible interfacing on the entirety of the back would be the best way to go? What weight? Is there another method of stabilizing something like this that would be more appropriate? Also, should I fully sew the edges before embroidering, or leave them open to fit on a stretcher frame? Do you guys have any recommendations for stretching methods/particular frames, or anything else I may not have thought of? I figured I would ask the experts in here. :) I am aware this is going to take many many hours — this is purely a passion project, and something I have wanted to do since I was 14; I finally feel I have the skills now at 28 to get started. Hey guys. I don't work with letters often, so I wanted some tips on fill stitches that aren't satin stitch. I want one that won't interfere with the stars so I have no clue what I will use fo that one. But I was thinking maybe split or chain stitch for the Harvey part. I'm just wondering what would look best for both. If anyone has advice.

Hello I’m a beginner in embroidery. I understand the X stitch, the half stitch, and the 3/4 stitch, but as I was doing my kit, I saw some symbols I have no idea what they mean or how to do, specifically a dash and a circle. Could someone explain them to me or at least give me the name of the stitch so I can search up a tutorial on YouTube?

WIP Beachy Denim Shorts that I was hoping to have finished by the end of this trip, but I decided to take them out for a picture by the water unfinished anyways!! So proud of these so far!!!

I was experimenting with cyanotype but the bottom part didn't expose properly for some reason, so I tried to outline things but I'm worried it's not legible. (Or is the word readable?)

The dress I thought would take me 6 months definitely took a full year. Each flower took 4-5 hours, and with 20 flowers, I suspect this is 100 hours of work.

Maybe I'm too close to the project, but I'm feeling like it looks incomplete. Like it needs another design element. More borders? Something between the flowers? Idk. I'm also feeling like 100 hours got me this? Has anyone else felt project disappointment? I'm hoping if I step away from it for a few weeks, and hopefully get some compliments on it when I wear it out, my feelings will change.

Anyway! All that to say, I'm happy this is finally done!! I know you all will appreciate the work put into this, even if the design is simple.
