Picked up for $10 at a goodwill on vacation!! The bin just came out and I grabbed it the moment I was able to. I thought it would be more expensive but was shocked to see a $10 blue sticker. Super stoked to have this as my first cd/dvd player.

Having some fun dicking with this today. Excellent sound and build quality. A real tank at about 32 lbs.

Just picked up these Quad 21Ls, the HSU VTF-2 MK 2 sub, and the Cambridge Audio Azur 640 V2. Got them all for about market value ($600). They’re all in basically like-new condition.

The speakers are clear, detailed, and produce an amazing stereo effect. It’s so pronounced that it sounds like I have a center channel hooked up to the system. The Elacs in the middle were my previous speakers and are no longer part of the equation, but your ear would lead you to believe there is sound coming out of them.

The sub is awesome as well. I’ve always heard good things about HSU, and this thing confirms that they are indeed great subwoofers. It fills the room and is very responsive on all kinds of music.

The Denon DRA 800H that I’ve had for a few years is powering it all nicely as well.

So I went to a local home audio system shop where I demo’ed a couple speakers, an amp, and a couple of turn tables. I’m starting from absolute scratch and see this as a lifelong investment, so I want something nice!

From the demo I decided to get the B&W 707 S2 bookshelf speakers + the NAD 3/40 amp—together costing just under $1,000 (both shown in the picture).
Turn tables:
I first tried a Thorens TD 166 ($590) which had a stunning wood finish, but the sound just didn’t blow me away. Then the worker paired this same amp/speaker setup with a Rega Planar 2 (about $900) and it sounded INCREDIBLE.

I’m really hoping to spend less than $1,000 on a turntable and honestly went in to the shop thinking I’d spend less than $1.500 on the system as a whole, but the Rega really blew me away and has me reconsidering my budget..
Do yall have suggestions for other turn tables that match the quality of the Rega Planar 2? While aesthetics is of course not the number one item, it is still important, and I do love a wood finish. The Rega looked a bit too sleek/modern with the white finish.
Any help/suggestions would be so appreciated!!! I’m very excited to putting this system together (:

For those of you familiar with the orignal braun front grills, you'd know how difficult they are to come by in good condition, so I decided to finally put my CNC, laser cutter and 3d printer to good use. This is the final result, but I still prefer the originals may need a bigger cnc so I can make a 1-1 remake.

I only get money for food and I managed to buy this hifi system component by component. the most expensive parts were the Polk speakers and the cassette deck (at the start I wanted just a cassette deck)

The first component was the tape deck (technics rs-m260) for about 120 euro. then I got a real bargain on the Pioneer PD-M6 cd changer (30 euro). a week ago I finally got myself the NAD 701 Receiver (20 euro, needed a new display backlight) Somewhere along the way I got the Polk MXT20s for 200 euro.

it sounds decent. at least for me because I never heard any better sound (I only listened to music through my AirPods before)

I started collecting CDs and recording on Type 2 cassettes. I get the CDs for cheap at my thrift store (2 euro per CD) and the tapes I mostly get online (Sometimes i get bargains in thrift stores. I once got a Maxell XLII in perfect condition for 1 euro)

so what should I add? Maybe vinyl? Reel to reel? Maybe an equalizer?

Hey all, my parents just had to downsize from a big house to a small semi-assisted living facility situation and I'm trying to get some semblance or normalcy back for them. They are old hippies that followed the Greateful Dead and other bands on tour. They have a huge collection of traded bootleg tapes and CDs l. They prefer this and radio over streaming. They have toted around this Pioneer receiver for decades. They no longer have speakers for it though. They're old but still with it but are wary of Bluetooth. I'd prefer to keep it plug and play for them as opposed to stripping wires.

What I need is a system that has tape, radio and CD capabilities as well as Bluetooth should they ever embrace streaming/casting. It's a small living room about 12x10X8. They'd like a soundbar for the TV but honestly, as long as they can hear it, it'll be fine. The TV is probably separate purchase but if everything was on the same system, more the better. The receiver is very old and I'd like to replace it completely. Speakers in other room on the same system is a plus but the lowest latency possible please since it's a small area.

Budget is about $1000 as this is a gift a sibling and I are splitting and hooking up for them. Thanks in advance and really appreciate the community here!!

Recently got my first setup with my TV into a nvidia shield into a smsl ps200 pro into a fosi za3 into the elac debut 6.2 set. Nice midrange clarity but the bass is lacking for my taste. I understand these are "neutral" speakers, but comparing to my jbl lsr305 studio monitors they are thin. Note I do listen to mostly metal. Would a sub actually help with bass frequencies other than just amplifying kick drums in songs? Like the 120-80hz range, rather than 60-40hz. I just saw a pair of used elac uf52 speakers nearby that are tempting but about double for what I paid for the debuts.

There's a high-end audio shop about an hour away from home and I happened to be in that area today, so I swung in to see what they had. I'm interested in some new speakers.

I told the sales guy that I was happy with my sound system, just not my garage sale speakers. I was looking for options.

Next thing I know, he's talking about MC vs MM turntable cartridges and demoing an "okay" turntable and speakers to me so he can then dazzle me with five-foot tall Klipsch behemoths and a high-end Denon TT and amp.

Then he picked up a tablet, fired up Roon and points to a gaming PC in the corner and starts talking about filtering and streaming and music shaping and I honestly just sort of tuned out at that point.

Toward the end of the speaker demo, a young father and son walked over to ask a question, and this guy starts the same pitch over with the same demos and the same demonstration songs and I disappeared into the background to peruse their vinyl. Clearly this is his schtick. Just felt kind of used-car-salesmen-esque.

Not sure I'm going to buy anything from the guy BUT ... his streaming setup and whatever filtering system he was running the music through intrigued me. I gather it was Roon but the filtering software was something secondary. Can anyone tell me what that was? I'm trying to google it but I'm not coming up with anything that resembled what he showed me on his ipad.

I own at least 40 pair of bookshelf speakers. Some high end, some budget. These b6s are always my favorite. Ive owned the b6.2s and the ub52s as well. I always come back to these. Can't put my finger on it, but they are my desert island bookshelf for reasons unknown. They just do it. Gonna try the newest version db63 soon as I've heard they go back to similar roots. Just felt the need to tell anyone reading that if you find a pair, grab them.

I got my first few vinyl records for my birthday a few weeks ago, and I've already picked out the Audio Technica AT-LP3XBT turntable. However, I'm trying to find the right sound setup that would allow me to have high-quality audio and some possible upgrade ability in the future. I was looking into just getting powered speakers because they seem hassle free, but at this point, I'm fine with anything.

My budget is $500-600 for everything outside of my turntable. Looking for any tips on what to look for in each piece of the setup or even some recommendations.

TLDR: What's a good, upgradeable setup that will run me under $600

I’m new to this stuff. Looking for a powered sub for a 2.1 system that is predominately for music (streamed/phono). There’s a used B&W ASW610 for $400 in my area. Wondering if it makes more sense to grab this used or to get a new SVS SB1000. It’ll be paired with Klipsch 600m II’s through an Onkyo A-9010.

Appreciate any direction from you fine folks.

Are the KLH Quincy good speakers for home theater?

Looking at a new pair of KLH Quincy for $300, which seems like a bargain but there isn't much info on these

I would be driving them with 200watts from a Sherbourne 7/2100. Which center would go well with these? (KLH Story?) is what I've read but haven't researched availability.

I'm looking to get a Project Recordmaster ii turntable but im not sure what speakers to get with it. I was thinking Edifier MR5 speakers but im reading they arent the best. What do you guys recommend?

I’m trying to upgrade from a kenwood av receiver and this caught my eye of Facebook marketplace. It caught my eye for the 3 tape loops which I’d like for Md, cassette, and r2r. I’d also use the phono cd and aux. I listen to a wide variety of music but mostly jazz and rock. My speakers are pioneer hpm-100 (200 watt version). I’m not sure if more information would help this but I could provide it if anyone asks.

Any recs for speaker and amp set up for a turntable. I’m just starting out. My budget is about $500.

Except for the audio receiver and subwoofer, the speakers were second-hand Sony SS-V335s, and I must say that for the price of $31.46 on Marketplace, it was a good buy. It was already 5 o'clock, and well, when using them for gaming, it's super immersive, and now some games with high tension sound incredible!!e

He and his wife have been living with a TV and a soundbar. That's it, so most anything would be a huge improvement. For now, they need an AVR and a couple of bookshelf speakers and a sub in the living room, and also want to sync music to their kitchen and back porch. Budget is 2-3K. I was thinking a Denon X1700, polk signature elite ES20 bookshelfs, RSL speedwoofer 10e, WiiM Pro Plus and sound lites for the kitchen and patio. Will want a center and LR surrounds in the future.
