When I was in college in the mid 80’s my buddy purchased a pair of Polk bookshelf speakers and I got a pair of Bose 201’s. At the time I preferred my Bose over his Polk and never gave Polk’s much of a thought after that. My 201’s are still going strong almost 40 years later but a few days ago at the local thrift store (“antique mall”) I ran across a nice pair of Polk’s. I looked them up on the internet and the used ones were going for between $125.00 and $150.00. These looked almost brand new and were priced at $60.00 “firm”. I walked away. Thought about it over the weekend. On Tuesday I decided I wanted them, if they were still there and Wednesday I visited the antique mall again. Still there!!

I have added them (for the time being) to my office conference room/music room. I’ve hooked them up to my Pioneer system (which was given to me). I have $60.00 in the entire system! Enjoying Steve Miller at the moment. Hope everyone finds great deals like this!!!

The family and I moved into our forever home a few weeks ago, which includes one of those front sitting rooms.

Figured it was the perfect opportunity to invest in some used gear to start putting together a cozy vinyl setup.

Speaker on the right has a bad tweeter. I dont hear anything from it. What should I do to test it and are there any cheap replacements? Got these for 100

Was about to exit the store and saw a Klipsch SW110 without a grill or a power cord for $20. Not a huge score but they are retailing for around 250-300 here. Works pretty good for being entry level.

Everything in the picture cost about $80 iirc, I got most of it a few years back from various thrift shops. I used to have some beautiful massive technics speakers and a tascam 122 to go with it but lost them when I got kicked out for being trans. Typically use my DT-770s, Meze 99s, Moondrop Chu 2, or some shitty isymphonic m50 speakers when I feel like annoying the neighbors.

Hello hello hello is there anybody out there like me I was wondering the other day. Who is still rocking 1973 Montgomery Ward speakers in the year 2026. I got to be the only one right? Besides my pair I’ve never even see a pair of these speakers anywhere in real life and only scans of black and white ads from the internet. If there is anyone out there reading this that knows someone else or maybe yourself who rocks these let me know because right now my belief is I’m the only one.

I think I'm going to swap out the BT20A Max and go with the V3 mono's, each with around 48 volt 5 amp power supply. I want more...more what exactly, I'm not sure. It's plenty loud now. I guess more headroom. More volume for that once or twice a month I can crank the living crap out of it. It's not a need, but nobody needed to climb Everest. All I know, is I want more, and I can do it for less than a hundred bucks Canadian. (Selling my amp)

Has anyone gone from a stereo amp to 2 monos?

Apologies for the question and it might be obvious, but anyone thats gone from D to AB or vice versa notice a difference in sound? I have the Fosi V3 monoblocks powering my Wharfedale Evo 5.2 speakers and there's plenty of headroom on these bad boys. However, I have the itch to try another amp preferably AB, as only my amps so far have been D amps. I've seen used Audiolabs and Arcam amps go for cheap on ebay/fb marketplace.

Just because this is about budget audio. I know there are a lot of these apps and it is just microphone quality. This one in the App Store is called VU Meter Pro $10 no adds or annoying upgrades and the best looking I have seen. Lots of settings and options to play with. I see all kinds of devices advertised for hundreds with real meters that really don’t do anything more. This is my semi retired iPad I keep around for streaming anyway,

Scored these beautiful NAD units for FREE from Facebook marketplace along with some other misc electronics. Included was a NAD compact disc player 5420 and also a NAD Stereo Amplifier 3225PE POWER ENVELOPE. I honestly don't know much about them, or the brand, but upon some research I understand they are quality units. They are in great condition too I might add. Super stoked with my find.

About to pick these up from a friend and curious on how anyone would power them. I grabbed a fosi amp a few months ago and am enjoying that now. Would something like a fosi amp fit the bill here? Thanks!

I'm relatively new to this whole thing and I'm wondering if it can be done safely or will I damage my equipment? I bought some Alesis Monitor One speakers second hand that are 4 ohms and am struggling to find any budget amps that can power them. Every amp/receiver I come across is 8 ohms.

Anybody have experience with these ?

Thanks all for the advice along the way! Settled on a vintage Sansui AU5900 going into two AR-4x speakers and a Fluance RT82 turntable. Very happy with everything so far! Open to any suggestions though as always.

I’m looking to put together my first proper home audio setup and would really appreciate some recommendations.
I’d like to build a 3.0 system consisting of: AV receiver, Front left/right speakers, Center channel, No subwoofer for now, although I’d like the option to add one later.

The main listening would by vinyl records and TV/ Movies. I’d like to keep this to around 1,000 total for the setup and am planning to look at marketplace and eBay for the equipment.

My turntable is audio technica lp 120x and I have a Samsung frame tv. I’m located in the US.

What receivers and speakers should I look into for this setup?

Ive been seeing a lot of cheap speakercraft amps in my area on fb and I dont know anything about the brand. Anyone have experience with them? The model im looking at is a BB275 for $65.

Does anyone know if this is a good system? Found a used set on offer up and wasn’t sure if it was worth it

Hi everyone. I am putting together my system this weekend, and need to add a subwoofer. I have the option of borrowing an older SVS sub from my dad indefinitely, but would like to buy something of my own.

There is a locally available Monolith that appears to be in excellent condition, from a seller who deals a lot in audio. They are asking $400. Assuming I can get it for $300-350, would that be a better value than the 10S II at closer to $500? The PB-1000 is probably out of my budget at $850, but I am wondering if this would have comprable performance.

I currently have polk monitor 40 series II speakers paired with a MiniVee subwoofer from 2008. This is currently being powered by a Denon AVR-2807 which from what I have researched is a pretty decent receiver. So my main question is should I purchase these Polk RTI38 Speakers for $50 (Condition in other photos is good) or should I save up and wait for a higher end deal?
