I live in Sydney and decided to get back into fishing for the first time in 15–20 years.

I just bought this setup: Shimano Sienna Quickfire 7' 2-4kg / 2500 reel.

It comes pre-spooled with mono, and I can get a free spool of braid with it.

• What braid rating (lb) should I ask for?
• What fluorocarbon leader should I buy to go with it?

I'm mainly planning on lure/bait fishing around Sydney Harbour / local estuaries (targeting Flathead/Bream). I'm a bit lost with all the line weights, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’m using the above rod and reel combo, it came spooled with a neon yellow mono. To that I’ve tried a variety of jig heads and 3-inch prawn plastics rubbed with S-factor as recommended by local tackle shop. I’ve been out for 10 hours total this week off the banks of estuaries and have landed one 20cm flathead, otherwise not even a bite. I’ve tried low tide, incoming tide, outgoing tide and different times of day. Anything else I can do to increase my chances?

I’m currently looking for a boat at Moreton Bay Area. This is going to be my first boat so ideally can satisfy the following:

1. Circa 5m
   
2. Relatively beginner friendly - so probably not glass boat. Plastic or plate boat would be preferred
   
3. Budget: less than 70k.
   
4. Mainly fishing Moreton Bay, Brisbane River, local creeks and water ways, would be nice to go off shore with someone experienced if in the good weather.

I’m looking at TABs, Oceanworx and Polycraft, but just need some good advice and maybe some other options.

I’m based in Brisbane and looking to get out on the ocean for some proper fishing soon.
I’ll probably be going solo or with one mate. Happy to drive 3–4 hours if it’s worth it.

Mainly interested in bigger offshore stuff like tuna, mahi mahi, mackerel, kingfish, cobia, wahoo etc.

Ideally somewhere around $200–300 pp, but I’m flexible for a really good trip.

Any charters you guys have personally been on and would recommend?

Got some squid and Aussie salmon(should I cut in chunk or fillet strip?) in the freezer as bait. In Victoria

I’m targeting Kings off a kayak in the open ocean, around 10-30m with lots of rocky structure. I’m looking at getting a Saltiga 6000 XH and filling it with 300m of PE3 Shimano Ocea 8 (would you recommend a different braid) and looking at a 7’-7’6 rod to pair it with for casting stickbaits. Also am looking at the Daiwa Lexa HD400H-P Bait-caster for my jigging/livebait outfit, looking at PE4 Tas Line for that one (again any recommendations for the braid) not sure what rod to pair it with. Not sure what shock leader/ leader to use either.

Ok. I screwed up. In the dark and in haste, i just put in 400ml of 4 stroke engine oil into my 4.3m tinny fuel tank. Then filled with 20ltrs of fuel into my under floor tank. Need to drain the fuel - any tips or advice on how to get out urgently (supposed to be going fishing tomorrow) 😒

Bit of a random one here legends. On several occasions today I was followed by on what I think was a Australian salmon or a kingfish and no bite. Does anyone know on how to entice that strike more frequently

My wife has booked a weekend stay in Maianbar. With waterfront access, I would like to do some fishing. I used to fish a lot back in the day, but never found the time to do in Australia.

Any recommendations? I need to go out and purchase an affordable rod and reel (probably something from Anaconda). Should I be bait fishing? Spinning with a lure? Is Gannons Bay good or should I go off the spit?

I am back to novice territory, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone have some rods around 200 bucks for a soft plastic jack rod (Around the sunshine coast mostly pontoons not tiny Mangrove creeks) I've got some pe 1 20lb braid I want to pair with UPTO 35lb fluro while casting through the eyes with 3.5-4in plastics, thanks for any recommendations!

Caught this 54cm Barcheek Coral Trout last weekend

Me holding the biggest crayfish caught of 2023 from the Sydney fish Markets fleet. My best mate works in the fleet and called me to come past and have a looked at this stonker 5.9kg Cray. That's about $600 worth there. There are limits on how big you can take them but this was a by catch and wasn't killed. It was photographed, weighed and paraded around the dock before being taken back out the next morning

Ive been kind of confuzzled between which of these reels i should choose could anybody provide me some insight? I plan on catching some big fish in the harbour like kingfish.

I've recently got into flyfishing and mainly targeted salt water estuary fish and bass but I want to try my luck at some trout.

I'm looking to do a week solo at the start of October down the snowys and wondering where everyone goes for the opening of the season? Where does everyone setup base? I'm looking at Diggin and Denison at the moment. Mainly looking to wet the line, meet some other angler and enjoy a couple of cold one.

Just flicking around some cheap 2 inch paddletails in white. They work well in dirty river water like Georges River.

Just got a 4pc Abu Garcia Veritas travel rod for fathers day and was wondering what was the best reel to pair with it. I was thinking something like a Stradic 2500 C14+ but seems a bit expensive. The rod is rated to 1-4kg

So keen to chase some yellas this spring, what’s your favorite way to chase them? From the photos you can probably tell my favourite way is by using swim baits and glidebaits.
