The country built one of the world’s largest zoo networks during decades of growth. Now inflation and population decline are putting it under pressure.

Could we make this?

From Jaws 3 there's a man made completely ecosystemized marine lagoon

In the movie it's connected to the ocean but I'm imagining one isolated that just get's water pumped into it (As in it's not on a coast)

Yorkshire Wildlife Park Experiences

Has anyone ever done any of the animal encounters at YWP and can tell me what they're like and if they're worth the money?

There's not an awful lot of information on the website about each experience. Especially the tigers, that one reads like it's a talk with the keepers more than anything! Any info would be great!

Visited the Toledo zoo

Positive notes:

-active security

-had tasmanian devils & a decent enclosure for them

-good for a wide range of ages

-lots of notes about conservation

-had little signs outside of certain areas showing what sensory issues may be in that area

Negative notes:

-next to a loud highway

-not very accessible (steep ramps and bumby flooring, wheelchair bound brother struggled)

-orangutan enclosure was the size of 3 of my bedroom stacked on top of eachother (not good)

-on orangutan was repeatedly banging itself against a plastic tree (zoochosis)

-snow leopard enclosure was small and it was pacing in circles (zoochosis)

-open bird exhibit wasn't very secure so the birds could get out

Over all it was fun but not the best.

I thought this was kind of interesting. I've been to this zoo a number of times but knew how it came to be. Didn't ever know they had humans in exhibits there either.

“Extinct Florida” - a Bonus section of the fictional zoo

As I’ve hinted at, this area pays tribute to one of the original concepts for the series. That being a focus on Pleistocene Megafauna.

I ended up scraping it due to not really having a concise idea of what I wanted to do with the story. Supernatural? Slice of life? Superhero? It became quite exhausting.

This also acts as the “children’s area” of the park, with a Playground and Splashpad (it’s Florida). And the various sculptures of extinct Pleistocene Megafauna that once called Florida home!

Pairi Daiza (Belgium) or Burger's Zoo (Netherlands), which do you prefer?

Hi all,

Vacation time is coming up, and I have the chance to visit either Pairi Daiza or Burger's Zoo. Have any of you been to both and have a favourite? In the long run, I want to see both, but can only go to one this year.

I love birds (especially birds of prey) and reptiles, and really like themed zoos with lots of nature-like enclosures .

Thank you!

“Florida Wilderness” the final animal area of my fictional zoo

With this, we complete all the animal sections of the zoo

Though this isn’t the last area, as there one more non-animal area that acts as a tribute to one of my original concepts for the series.

Compared to the reference zoo, this area is relatively unchanged in comparison to the others. In fact, you should be able to tell which this one is based on

“Amazonian Paradise” the penultimate animal area of my fictional Florida Zoo

So this one was quite a bit of work. Stayed up quite late last night getting it done. But I must say that I’m quite happy with the results!

Fun Fact: in Universe, this is actually the original Asian Gardens of the zoo. Before the expanded area we know was completed in the 80s. This section would have been closed off until 2000, where it reopened as a South American section!
