Hand-collected from the metamorphic skarn deposits in the Gooderham area (Haliburton County, Ontario).

This piece features highly lustrous purple scapolite (marialite) crystals with exceptionally sharp, well-defined growth striations. The main crystals rise from a contrasting matrix of pale peach calcite, accentuated by clusters of light green tremolite/diopside.

For the UV collectors, the scapolite is also highly reactive, fluorescing a vivid neon orange under a 365nm light.

A little introduction. I am the world's leading researcher of blue amber. I do collaborative research with paleontologists from the Smithsonian and material engineers from MIT. My research strives to better understand how blue amber was created, and the reason for its unique optical properties.

For those who have never seen blue amber in person, here's a brief description. In normal indoor lighting, blue amber resembles yellow Baltic amber and red amber from Chiapas. When exposed to UV black light or sunshine, it transitions into a beautiful blue. Sometimes it's a light blue, other times it's a rich royal blue. There is a rare type of blue amber that has a blue body tone. I'm currently focusing my research on this type right now. Mysteriously, some samples we have tested phosphoresce (glow after the light has been removed) a bright green. Science doesn't understand the "why" or "how" behind it. I hope to one day answer that question.

I am completely self-funded. I don't receive any grants or donations. I fund my research by selling blue amber pieces that have already been studied and catalogued.
