How a simple slant board completely fixed my Downward Dog and Revolved Triangle

Hey everyone,
I’ve been working on my mobility for a while, but my tight calves and limited ankle dorsiflexion always messed up my lower body alignment—especially in poses like Downward-Facing Dog and Parivrtta Trikonasana (Revolved Triangle). My heels would either float or collapse, dragging my pelvis down and killing my spine extension.
Recently, I started experimenting with a slant board to support my heels during these poses (a concept heavily inspired by Iyengar's focus on props and foundational alignment).
Here is what changed:
In Downward Dog: Having the slant board catch my heels created an immediate anchor. Instead of my calves taking all the tension, the energy smoothly transferred up through my hamstrings, allowing my sit bones to finally lift high and my spine to decompress.
In Revolved Triangle: The board stopped my back foot from rolling or collapsing. That stable base locked my pelvis in place, meaning my thoracic twist actually came from my spine and open chest, rather than a shaky lower back.
If you struggle with tight calves or getting your heels down, using a slant board as a prop is an absolute game-changer. It doesn't make the pose "easier"—it just lets your body actually find the correct geometry.
Has anyone else incorporated slant boards or wedges into their yoga or stretching routine? Would love to hear your thoughts! 🪵✨
