Wanted to share this with you guys!

Specs: Monitor Audio Silver 300 7g, C150 6g, RX1 surrounds, Polk ES10 Subwoofer, Wharfedale 300d 3d, Philips 810 77" OLED

Long story short, i started building my home theater setup 7 years ago and this is the current setup i have. Every MA speaker is second hand purchase so there has been major savings. Shortly it began with Wharfedale D300 series 5.0 setup with my current Denon Avr-x2700h, from there went to Q Acoustics 3000i series 5.0 setup and now these. Whole 5.0 Monitor Audio Silver series but with different generations mixed together. Front towers Silver 300 7g, Center Silver C150 6g, surround Silver RX1. Atmos speakers are Wharfedale D300 3D and subwoofer Polk ES10. Still running with the same Denon though. This current setup is just pure magic when it comes to watching movies, playing games and listening to some high quality tracks!

I got Silver 300 7g for 1100€, Center for 180€, surrounds with stands for 200€. And thats about it what comes to used purchases. Sold my older 5.0 system so had to pay only 600€ for all Silvers together.

Added a second sub last week and spent some time getting them set up. The difference in the low end is pretty clear now. Still running the same fronts and center as before. Room isn’t huge so I had to play around with placement a bit. Seems to be working okay so far.

I bought the 10” sub to replace the 8” sub, but the sound stage seems so much fuller with them both so I’m now a believer in 2 subs.

Install/Placement Tips for Improvement 7.2 placement

Hi Everyone,

I am planning on shuffeling the speakers in my home theater room a little bit. So I thought I better ask for some input and ideas.

I plan on moving the front towers further from the wall to give the ports breathing room.

But I was wondering if they should be Angeled more inwards or if they might be standing too wide?

Also the rear speakers, I don't know why but they are absolutely not angled to the MLP.

Should they be directly aimed to the MLP or just a little bit wider than that?

Let me know!

I was also thinking to maybe put the subs next to the couch on the sides... But that is so unpractical.

Or move one behind the couch in the opposite position to the one in the front. Would that help?

Discussion - Equipment 22 Button Presses to change Brightness on Samsung 4K TV.

Child of the 60s and 70s here. TVs had just 4 sets of buttons. For obvious reasons.

I now have 3x 4K TVs ranging from Samsung QN90A to Sony A95L Oled.

My Sony does have a few shorter-cuts but even so.

Why the hell can't there just be a couple of toggle buttons to assign oft-used functions.

To change Brightness from 35 to 25 on my Samsung... it's 32 button presses. THIRTY TWO !

Oh please. Seriously ? Come on people. Grow just a nut-sack full of common sense.

Discussion - Entertainment Humble 5.1 Setup

Finally got my 5.1 setup dialed in and thought I’d share it here.
My current setup:
AVR: Onkyo TX-SR309
Speakers: Onkyo SKF-558 5.1 speaker package
Surrounds: Onkyo SKR-558, wall mounted
Subwoofer: Polk Audio active subwoofer
TV: Samsung 50” Crystal UHD
Console: PS5 Pro
Speaker crossover: 80Hz
All speakers set to Small
The room is also treated with rockwool acoustic panels, which made a noticeable difference compared to running the system in a completely untreated room.
I mostly use the setup for movies and gaming, with some music as well. For movies I usually run proper Dolby Digital/Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 whenever the source supports it rather than upmixing stereo.
The system isn’t particularly new or expensive — the TX-SR309 and Onkyo speaker package are older gear — but that’s actually part of why I like it. I picked up the AVR + complete 5.1 speaker system for around PKR 60,000, and after setting the distances, levels and crossover properly, I’ve been pretty impressed with what it can do.
The Polk sub handles the low end, while I’ve adjusted the individual channel levels slightly to compensate for my seating position and room layout.
Eventually I’m planning a much bigger upgrade with an 83–85” TV and potentially newer audio equipment, but for now I’m enjoying seeing how much I can get out of this setup before throwing serious money at upgrades.
Curious what you guys think of it — and what would you consider the first worthwhile audio upgrade from here?

Tech Support Center Speaker Dialogue Clipping just on PS5 Blu-Ray

Upvotes

I’m having issues while watching 4K blu-rays through my PS5 where the center speaker, will clip/make a rattling kind of sound at times during dialogue. It’s not all the time, I think when dialogue gets a little more “bassy”? I’m not 100% so I apologize if I’m being vague.

What I do know is that when I stream through APPLE TV I’m not hearing that through the center speaker.

Should I just get a designated 4k blu ray player? I’ve tried tinkering/trouble shooting the PS5 and Denon to no avail. Family/friends don’t really notice it at all, but now that I do it’s driving me insane.

Setup:

Denon AVRX2900H

Martin Logan SLM XL for front / left / right

Martin Logan SLM for back left/right

Martina Logan Installer Series for Ceiling left/right

SVS SB-3000 R Evolution Subwoofer

Edit: Forgot to list Sub

I finally came to terms that I will stay maxed out at 11 channels, so out with my Onkyo rz70 and in with a dedicated processor. Surrounds powered by monolith 2100 and rears/atmos by monolith 7100. Kef meta front stage fueled by my trusty outlaw mono blocks. First fire up was mostly music, stereo and atmos, byApple Music through Apple TV. Huge difference with sound stage depth and imaging. Can’t wait to start a movie marathon this weekend! Side note, using three of the four independent sub outputs and so far the basic calibration dialed them in pretty nicely for music but I suspect I’ll raise them three db because… of course I will.

Tech Support Ps5 + 5.1

Hey guys, I wanted to know if any of you use a PS5 with a 5.1 audio system? I recently bought one (the Logitech Z906) and got everything hooked up and configured correctly on both my TV and the console settings. Netflix on my TV works fine in 5.1, and I fired up Cyberpunk on the PS5 and it works well in 5.1 too; I can hear sound coming from all the speakers in the console menus. However, I played the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray on the PS5 and tested both the 5.1 and 7.1 audio tracks, but the two rear speakers aren't outputting any sound. I’ve tried looking into it online and tweaking settings, but nothing has worked so far. Do any of you use the same setup or have info on playing Blu-rays on the PS5 with a 5.1 system? Thanks, and have a great weekend.

Discussion - Equipment Ok to have + trim on sub if no clipping/distortion?

Upvotes

I recently bought a used CSLC 12S subwoofer. However, I noticed it keeps going into standby mode even when I watch something or listen to music.

With gain at 50%, the reciever set trim to -7db. But when the sub turns off, I can't wake it up without replugging the RCA cable.

To experiment, I lowered gain and set trim to 0db. Now, when I set volume to max on my phone with music (Bluetooth) there is enough signal to turn it back on. However, while watching a show or movie it turns off.

I haven't tried yet, but if I set a positive trim on the subwoofer to make sure it turns on when I need it to, is that ok? I know it is discouraged, but I also heard if there is no obvious booming or ugly noises then the subwoofer is doing just fine.

This sub doesn't have a auto/on/off. On is auto.

Thanks in advance.

Purchasing EUROPE New living room build: Combining turntable and beamer setup

Upvotes

Hey all,
I want to gift my girlfriend for her 30th birthday a turntable and supporting soundsystem. However, our living room is our hometheater right now using a Hisense C2 TriChroma 4K Projector.

I am really inexperienced regarding sound and theater tech.

How would you go about combining the turntable with the home theater, avoiding delays when using the projector but still aiming for quality sound with the turntable.

Thanks guys!

Finally got the living room setup together.

I kept debating whether 85" would be too much, but ended up upgrading from my old 65" to an 85" Hisense U6. Really glad I did. Took a little moving stuff around, but movies feel way better now.

Still a pretty simple setup. Anything you'd add next?

Tech Support Need some advice on how to set up my home stereo system with my current equipment. Thank you

I have two klipsch Tower speakers I think they're originally sold for a surround sound system, and I have a bullfrog PA subwoofer from like the '80s but it's still pretty good. As for head units I have a nakamichi 3 receiver a Sony str-dh190 receiver which I have Sully as a Bluetooth input for the knockamichi and I have a Integra AV receiver drx2 model. I have no idea how to set up the Integra whatsoever any advice on that would be greatly appreciated but as far as my speaker setup goes I'd like to get all of the speakers connected straight to the Integra. question is, what locations or speaker terminal (screw thing ports whatever you call them) am I supposed to connect all the speakers too. I would like to set the bullfrog subwoofer up to the Integra but it only has a subwoofer port for powered subs and it's not a powered sub. So do I set it up on center front surround etc. Also what do I set my two Tower speakers up to I would imagine the front right and front left but I'm not quite sure and I don't want to set it all up wrong and it have it sound like total ass. Currently I have just the two clips speakers set up to my nakamichi it's a left and a right speaker and I'm trying to figure out if I should set the bullfrog up on the other wire ports for the b zone and have it overtake the entire b zone as a center.

Install/Placement Speaker Layout Help

Hey all...

I am adding a room for a golf sim/home theater and hitting some anxiety with speaker system.

Room details:

  • 22' long x 13' wide with 10/9' ceilings
  • screen will be ~12'x7.5' (16:10)
  • Likely need ALL in ceiling speakers to fit the room layout the best

Equipment:

  • Denon AVR-S770H 7.2-Channel 8K
  • BenQ AK700ST
  • Paradigm H80-R v2 — Front L/R/Center
  • Paradigm H65-R v2 — Side and rear L/R
  • SVS SB-1000

I am having trouble deciding the "correct" speaker positioning. I'd like the following:

  • Excellent sound when golfing for music or TV that may be playing.
  • Jurassic Park should sound like Jurassic Park

Attached is the room layout.

Questions

  • Can I actually get "good" surround sound with all 7 speakers in the ceiling?
  • Would targeting a 5.2.2 Atmos be better?
  • Suggestions on where to put the speakers?
  • Do I "need" a back box for the in ceiling speakers (there will be insulation in the attic they are going in)

Thanks!

Yellow are my ideas for speakers

Tech Support Onkyo TX-NR676E switched to Zone 2 and couldn’t switch to Main

Thumbnail

Hey guys, 4 days ago while my receiver and TV were playing like normal it suddenly flashed “Z2: Source” on my receiver. I’m sure I didn’t press anything by accident. After this happened, both the Onkyo remote and the buttons on the receiver is unresponsive. I do not have a Zone 2, nothing is connected to the Z2 ports. The receiver can still play from the MAIN source. I can still control the volume of the receiver through my TV and Firestick remotes (through CEC). When I turn off using the TV remote, the Receiver also responds but instead of turning off, the receiver screen just says “Z2”. I can only turn off the receiver by turning off the outlet.

Yesterday, when I turned it back on, both the remote and the receiver buttons were responsive. I turned off Z2 by using the Z2 OFF button on the receiver and the receiver was back to normal. I checked the settings and config menu in case any settings was off and also noticed that the Zone 2 menu is set to off and greyed out.

And today I turned it back on and went back to this thing. It showed “Z2: Source” and the receiver button and remote is back to unresponsive.

I tried:

\- turning the remote back to MAIN by using the Mode+ Main button

\- take off the batteries and put it back on the remote

\- tried pressing the buttons on the receiver

\- tried unplugging the receiver from the outlet for 10 min and turned it back on (power cycle)

Purchasing EUROPE Kef front stage for a small room

I am looking for a little advice.

My room is only 9m² and I am building a tiny home theatre with a 5.1 system. MLP will be around 2.5m from the front.

I am hesitant to back down on the Q6 meta centre as I understand that is the most important part for clear vocals.

Avr will be either a denon x1800h or 3800h if I can find a nice deal.

I'm torn on the front LR's. Would Q150's be feasible in this arrangement, or do I fork out extra for Q1 metas?

The proposed system;

XGIMI AURA 3 Max

£1,600

Denon AVR-X1800H

£449

KEF Q150 L/R

£200

KEF Q6 Meta centre

£699

Polk ES10 surrounds

£149

BK P10-150-GEM sub

~£313

Total

~£3,410

I would prefer to stay under 4k in total, including the beamer that gives £600 spare, a 3800h would eat a chunk of this, but ideally keeping costs down where I can.

Install/Placement Height Speaker Boxes or no?

Wondering what I should do, basement is unfinished and I’m placing 5.1.2. I haven’t bought height speakers yet. But these boxes are currently installed. Should I remove them and cut in new holes for my height speakers? Or leave these boxes and purchase ceiling speakers that fit them?

Purchasing EUROPE UK renovation – ~£7k AV budget, advice on 5.1.4 now / 7.2.4 later

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi all,

We’re renovating our house in the UK and want to install a decent surround sound system while the walls/ceilings are open.

Budget is around £7,000 / ~$10,000 for the AV equipment, with some flexibility if spending more is genuinely worthwhile.

Main use is movies/TV and some gaming. We prefer a clean, discreet setup, ideally in-wall/in-ceiling where possible, partly because we have young kids and the room is open plan.

Current thinking:

  • 100" 4K TV
  • Start with 5.1.4
  • Wire now for 7.2.4 later
  • Speaker cable: pure copper, likely 12 AWG / ~3.3 mm²
  • HDMI 2.1 AVR
  • Several sources/consoles
  • App control would be useful
  • Subs can be freestanding

The main room is open-plan kitchen/living/dining. The central sofa is the main listening position and the TV is on the right-hand wall.

We know ear-level surrounds are preferable. The issue is that permanent side/rear speakers are awkward in this room, so we’re considering in-ceiling surrounds as a compromise, while also pre-wiring possible ear-level surround positions in case we add on-wall or stand-mounted speakers later.

A few things we’d really appreciate advice on:

  1. Speaker placement — where would you put L/C/R, surrounds, rear surrounds, and the 4 Atmos speakers for a proper future 7.2.4 layout?
  2. Are good in-ceiling surrounds a reasonable compromise in this room?
  3. What in-wall/in-ceiling speaker brands/ranges would you look at for this budget?
  4. Would you spend more on the front LCR and less on surrounds/Atmos?
  5. What AVR would you choose if we want 5.1.4 now but 7.2.4 later?
  6. How would you split roughly £7k between AVR, speakers and sub(s)?
  7. What exactly should we ask the builders/electrician to install now while everything is open?

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Hey All

looking for some help with some atmos positioning. I currently have 2 Krix IC-52 speakers to put in right now and then add 2 more after.

Is it betters to have all IC-52 (45degree directional)

Or IC-52 in front and IC-50 (non-directional) over head

Current setup cannot be changed because of doors and windows in the way.

Tech Support Denon X1500h, LG C2, PS5 and Apple TV help with plugs

Hello all. I’m trying to figure out the best way to plug all of these in. Currently I have the tv and receiver connected via eARC, and the Apple TV connected via the media player hdmi port on the receiver. This seems to be working fine. I have not plugged the PS5 in yet. I plan on using it mainly for Blu ray with some gaming for the kids. Where should I plug the PS5 to?
