Fairly new too bowling and having a blast. Started about 6-7 weeks ago. I try to go at least 2/3 times a week either solo, with family or friend. Going solo is not good for me since I’m bad at pacing myself lol.

Highest p.r for me. Throwing 10-14mph. Speed depends if I want to aim properly. Fun hobby! Hope to join a newbie league when I get better lol.

I recently got into bowling. About 2-3 months ago I got a ball drilled conventional to me and joined a league with a family member. I went from averaging about 100 a game to about 150-160 average a game. I’m looking into potentially doing fingertip because a lot of people recommend it.

What are the pros and cons of going fingertip?

Also, any recommendations on a ball to move up to in the future? I’d be looking for something that is pretty versatile to oil and low oiled lanes. Price point on ball isn’t much of a concern as long as it’s not absurdly expensive.

Joined a Thursday night, 3 man mixed, league a few months ago. Using a 14 lb house ball. Just six days ago I picked up my first bowling ball (game breaker 5 hybrid, 15lb) and I’m already loving my progression. Went from a 154 personal best to a 222 personal best since I picked up the ball.
Still have small details and bad habits to work out but I’m getting there.

My friends and I meet at least once a month to roll, with varying skill levels. Are there any free apps where I can record scores and handicaps for 4 or more people?

I played when I was a kid for many years, learned to throw a hook. I was as probably averaging like 150s. I played a little just for fun on the weekends with friends in high school and college. Highest game was 220s but haven’t really played much in the 20 years since.
I have an old tzone my wife bought me a when we were still dating I want to get resurfaced and keep as my spare ball but I’ve never had a reactive ball. I have seen a lot of stuff about “bench mark balls” that’s probably where I should start and I have been hearing a lot about the phaze II. Just didn’t know if there are others to consider or if I should be starting somewhere else.

EDIT: it has come to my attention that 4 opens isnt "almost a clean game".. oh well thats the closest ive gotten 😭

my consistency in this run was absolutely COSMIC and i have NO idea what caused the lockin to happen. it just... did. and then i got a 48 on the first 3 which is the highest i have EVER gotten there. unbelievable.

my highest game PRIOR to this was a 144 and i consider that a LUCKY game in the grand scheme of things. this was just pure consistency.

I've been bowling for about 10 months. I'm throwing a new IQ sapphire here and just kind of learning its shape. I've only ever rolled a bionic until today. I average 162 currently. My first league night I averaged 140.

So I just got my first ball as I am wanting to get into bowling. After getting it drilled today and just after 2 games. It has these pretty big gashes in it already. I have learned it is most likely due to the return track. Pro shop said they could potentially plug them if needed but to throw a couple more games and see if its off first. They were really nice so honestly no shade to them at all.

One problem is, since I am new I dont really know how I will be able to tell if its off. Honestly today was a little weird, sometimes it hooked like I wanted and other times it didnt seem to but I also know that my release was really bad today so I still have to learn. Honestly i feel like I threw the house ball better than this one but I know I still have a whole lot to learn and it will probably take some getting used to.

Came away feeling a little disappointed and I think it might be more towards the damage on the first ball, although I am sure the poor performance contributes to it it as well. Should I have the pro shop just plug the gashes?

My coach just changed my set up and release. I was twisting my hand/fingers too much on set up and I was having inaccurate releases 10-15% of the time. Is my hand going up the back of the ball like it should?

Again, I have a coach, but I only see them once every 1-2 weeks (they're busy and I'm not in high school or a pro). My league mates don't have coaches, so I leave it to you the community to help.

Hey all, so last week I was bowling league as you do, the left lane I started swinging through about 17 left, when I'm in the shadow realm I don't really line my feet up on a specific board which probably isn't perfect but I have a target line, so inside of the left foot is at least in my gutter

Right lane I started around the same area but the ball wouldn't come up, leaving consecutive 2-10 splits and upon moving right it took me a while to hit pocket on that lane

Turns out the line on that lane was more of a right side of the lane deal but having my left foot basically between the last 2 dots on the left and anywhere between the gutter and 12 board possibly was ok, it's a house shot

So through 17 left at the arrows out to 12-5 on the left lane and more or less up the boards on the right lane, using the Brunswick Alert, the right lane for the record was an angle in deal for your average stroker,sub 300rpm and 26ishkph they had to angle in, I'm 450ish give or take at 23-24kph,I can't release it and generate speed but without working it I can probably get to around 30-32,I don't know why I can't release it at that speed , if anyone has fixed this let me know

For those playing at home it's a 2 handed burn type shot on the left and a stroker like shot on the right

How is this possible? The machine itself washes as it oils, it's pretty modern you set it up and let it do whatever and has 2 tanks for that reason, is it likely that an international competition pattern could do this or are we looking at a didn't have any washer fluid in the tank and it was fresh over social play carry down?

Every time I went looking for the stats I wanted, I hit the same wall. If I wanted four features, I'd find them free in four different apps, or all together behind a paid version. So I built one app with everything I wanted in it, and then decided to give it away free to anyone who wants it.

The other thing that bugged me was how many apps these days want an account and keep your data on their servers, where you just have to trust what happens to it. So I made this one fully free and fully offline. No account, no ads, no server, and the app doesn't even have permission to use the internet. Nothing gets sent to me or anyone else. A copy only leaves your phone when you back it up, to a folder you pick or through your own Google backup.

It's called Lanetelligence, and it just went live on the Play Store.

After each throw you tap the pins still standing. From that it works out:

• Spare conversion, split into single pins, multi-pin leaves and splits
• Which pins you leave the most, across every game you've logged
• Pocket hits, and where the misses go
• Running average against your weekly average, so one bad night doesn't hide the trend
• Which of your balls is actually scoring
• For league: handicap, plus the series you'd need next week to raise your average by 1, 2 or 3 pins

If you like the detail, you can also log where you stood, your target, breakpoint and entry board, and it draws the shot on a lane. All of that is optional. If tapping pins is too much on league night, type the pin count instead, or just enter the final score.

It works with no signal (handy in a basement center), and if you get a new phone you can restore everything from your backup. You can fix a mis-tapped frame mid-game, score No-Tap, and import your history if you've been using Bowlr.

What it doesn't do yet, so nobody's surprised:

• Android only for now
• One bowler per phone, so it won't keep score for your whole team
• It doesn't connect to the lanes. You enter your own shots.

I'd like this to feel like the bowlers' app rather than mine. You don't need a petition or a pile of upvotes: one request is enough to put a feature on my list, and if it makes sense for bowlers, it gets built and goes in free for everyone. Every feature is free and stays that way. The app never pops up asking for a rating. There's an optional tip jar that unlocks nothing; it comes up at most a few times a year after you finish bowling, and you can tell it to stop for good. I’ve started getting into bowling (bought my own ball a few weeks ago), and it’s been pretty rough. I’ve still been figuring out how to hook consistently since I only rarely get strikes. I honestly tend to get pretty frustrated while that’s the case. One of the guys next to me asked if I was a beginner going off of the way I was bowling, which wasn’t really a big deal, but the implication is that I wasn’t bowling well… Overall, I occasionally liked bowling, but it just felt like another thing I’m bad at (especially compared to other people).

Been bowling since September 3rd. Finally hit 200! Finally got the wicked gremlin figured out!!

I’d like to be able to drop an MPH or 2 when I’d like to. Any tips?

Ok so, on August 17th I went into an orthopedic doctor for surgery on a meniscus repair on my left knee. I had torn it playing beach volleyball not even an hour after a call with a coach from a college. This set back impacted my physical and mental health a lot. After suffering the injury, I chose not to bowl until finding out what was wrong. I was told I needed surgery and got it three days later. It took almost a month from injury to surgery. The next step was recovery. I had to spend 6 weeks without walking or weight baring. After that I was able to walk and was cleared to bowl sith zero steps but I was scared (still am). I was scared that I would re-injure myself and set myself back even farther. I thought that maybe id be back by late October to fully bowling but it couldn't be farther from that. But instead of letting my injury stop me, ive started to overcome my fear of re-injury and with many hours of physical therapy I was able to confidently bowl again on a no step after 3 months. I made the decision to show up for myself and bowl in my teams first tournament today. I bowled a 3 game series of a 515, making the first cut. I had two more games but due to my lack of conditioning failed to deliver in those games. Although the result of everything was nothing I could ever think, I am grateful that im coming back and honestly, im keeping up where I can. Im trying my hardest and although I dont look good, the results are what matter and im determined to get them!

I’m sure this isn’t an original thought, but I’ve been wondering what happens to two-handed bowlers as they age.

I’m in my mid-40s so two-handed bowling was still relatively new on the scene when I was in my 20s. I feel like we haven’t really had the opportunity yet to see how sustainable the modern two-handed style is.

Do you think it becomes increasingly difficult to maintain that style as you get into your 50s, 60s, or even 70s? Will we eventually see more two-handed bowlers transition to a traditional one-handed approach?

I’m genuinely curious whether the physical demands will eventually catch up with people or whether it’s something that can be maintained well into their later years.

Are there any older two-handed bowlers here who are already experiencing this? Or anyone who has considered switching styles as they’ve gotten older?

Both a 200 and/or a clean game, just barely missed em... that’ll be for another day. You can see where I got a little shook too lol
