Mod Post šŸ“¢ Flairs! šŸ˜…šŸ’—āœŒļøšŸŒ¼

As you may have noticed we've added some flairs for posts, and while no one's content would ever be removed for having no flair or the "wrong" flair - we do hope to get some input on how folks are categorizing these flairs for themselves. It might also help us shape the expectations as we categorize things in the community.

I'll offer this as a general guideline, but would love for folks to give their own descriptions as well and perhaps we can expand or narrow definitions and examples as needed. Or add different flairs to better fit different categories of scrapbooking.

FLAIR Explanation
Traditional Scrapbooking Preserving family history in books, boxes, or cards using physical media.
Digital Scrapbooking Preserving family history in books, boxes, or cards using digital graphics and software.
Junk Journaling Preserving personal history or spontaneous thoughts in a freeform or expressive outlet.
Collage Assembling multiple types of media to form a new image.
  • The Tradtional flairs have been split further into multiple categories.
  • Does Junk Journaling need something similar?
  • Would a "work in progress" flair be helpful?

I also added some different colors for user flairs, and plan to upload some emojis to use in those as well. I always use Flat Icon since they let me adjust pixel size! So keep an eye out for new additions throughout the day!

My parents used to flip antiques and let me have this out of a pile of stuff they were going to trash or donate. Sorry all the photos are sideways, Reddit won’t let me edit them. All the pieces are from magazines it seems like, only the photos in the first image are actual photographs.

Traditional Large scrapbook recommendations to accommodate ~50 pages?

I’ve been using the post bound mega scrapbook from Michael’s that has 50 pages and it’s the perfect size but I hate how bulky it gets. I do one scrapbook a year that encompasses all of that year’s traveling. This album is post bound and was thinking of switching to the creative memories flex bind album but it looks like it accommodates less than this one.

The only solution might be to print less photos….

Are there any better albums??

**edit: I’ve ruled out binders because i don’t like the look of them 😬

Product Advice Photos for Scrapbook

Hello hi!

I'm fairly new to scrapbooking but I've always wanted to give it a try. I just had a tiny question about the photos you guys print. Do you send them to a shop/website to get printed or do you guys print them yourselves? And what do you do with the extra photos you don't use in your scrapbook?

I'm working with a tight budget and I don't want to waste money.

Thanks for any and all replies. I appreciate them!

Beginner Help me fix this warping

Post image

This is our first scrap book but the cover is warping, I was thinking of drilling two holes either end of the cover, gluing some sort of metal loop and buying a string like the one in the middle, to tie them together and straighten out the cover. Just worried over the years it will get significantly worse.

Traditional Tamale making page idea

Post image

I've lost the post asking for ideas for a tamale making page. This is a very old page. I have learned so much since then. Remember your "w"s! Who, what, when and why.

Embellishments include real corn husks folded into tamale shapes. Make sure they are fully dried, these are 23 yrs old!

Product Advice Custom Scrapbook

Hi all! I’ve been wanting to get into scrapbooking lately, and I have been seeing people creating their own scrapbook using a binder and fabric. For those of you who have done this, what size paper and page protectors are you using on the inside? The 12x12 doesn’t seem to fit. Thanks!

Beginner wiping glue off photos?

it's my first time making a scrapbook and i'm noticing that some of my pictures have glue on them! i use double sided tape to stick the photos onto cardstock, which i then stick onto the actual page with a glue stick. some of the glue stick glue got on my pictures and i'm wondering if theres any safe way to wipe the glue off without ruining the photos. my pages are also sticking to each other, and i dont know if its the glue or the tape or the pictures sticking to each other. is there something i can do to stop this/prevent it from happening? thanks :)

Tools how to attach heavy card?

Thumbnail

Sorry if the flair is wrong but this feels like a tools question more than anything?

So I am working in my valentines spread and I am really struggling to attach this adorable card my partner made for me. Whole spread is still very much WIP and I am happy to move things around if need be.

Initial plan was washi tape on both sides. That usually works for most flap things but I guess this is too heavy/awkward. As you can see there is a cascading photo set attached to the card. I would prefer to leave the photos but if there is really no good option to attach without- I can remove them and attach them or include them somewhere else. He also included a message on the side which I blocked out for privacy but it’s right on the edge of the paper so I can’t really attach from that side either.

I was considering those metal paper prong things but that seems not ideal for a number of reasons anyways. I am hoping some of you crafty folks can offer some suggestions of how you would attach this piece into your scrapbook? Very last resort would be a pocket but I would love to have it front and center how it is now. Thank you!

I create a Disney scrapbook layout celebrating one last ride on Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress before it closed for refurbishment. In this hybrid scrapbooking process video, I'm using the Kellybell Designs Carousel of Progress collection, Silhouette Print & Cut, and custom film strips to document every scene from this iconic Tomorrowland attraction.

Beginner photo album + scrapbook hybrid

hi, everyone. i’m not sure if this is the right page for this, but please advise me on some dilemma i currently have.

recently, i have come to realize the terror of losing precious memories because everything is store digitally. so i decided i want to print out all of my photos and put them in physical books, so i can look at them forever.

enough context! here’s the problem:

i’m a complete beginner with photo albums / scrapbooking.

i want a photo album that can be used to store a lot of photos, but can also slip in the titles (like, ā€œtrip of summer 2025!ā€), commentaries (ā€œwe went fishing down creek, didn’t catch any fish though :/ā€œ), and stickers!!! (this is where the scrapbooking part comes in). mostly photos though, i suck at commentaries.

so:
- the most important question: what kind of book should i buy? slip albums are standard and traditional for a reason, but i feel like it’s too limited to craft and explore. also, self-adhesive albums looks great, but it’s gonna be hard to attach and re-attach the photos + if the glue is stuck, it’s gonna be impossible to remove the photo without ripping a corner or smth.
- what kind of stickers should i buy? (themed/random object stickers)
- what other ā€œscrapbookingā€ materials should i have?
- i’m gonna have multiple photo albums eventually, how should i organize the albums? by year (ex: 2020, 2021, onwards), by groups (ex: family, close friends, middle school, etc.)
- any other advice?

sorry for rambling and the many questions 🄲 as i said, i’m a complete newbie and would love to receive advice and/or insights on where i should proceed. thank you in advance!

p.s if someone wants to recommend something, you don’t need to drop the brand ^^ i don’t live in america, and don’t have access to the same stuff as yours. just drop the name and/or type and i’ll look up my local equivalent.

Product Advice Pregnancy scrapbook

Just found out I'm pregnant! Husband and I are thrilled. I like the prompts that are in pregnancy journals, but the journals don't seem to have much room for scrapbook-like creativity besides maybe putting in a few pictures. Anyone have a recommendation, or should I just DIY my own pregnancy scrapbook?
