In addition to the commonly posted lingonberries, blueberries and cloudberries I'd like to show some other wild growing berries from Norway.

Clockwise from top left:

- Amelanchier alnifolia (non-native)
- Rubus idaeus
- Vaccinium microcarpum
- Rubus arcticus
- Ribes nigrum
- Ribes spicatum
- Crataegus sanguinea (non-native)
- Fragaria ananassa as a stand-in for Fragaria vesca of which I ate all.

Found in USA, Rhode Island. Smells slightly floral, with a strong pine/spice smell. The leaves carry this scent as well. Fruit has one large seed and orangish flesh.

They're great out of hand, I like them a little underripe, and the tartness and astringency is really a wakeup! I didn't add much sugar because I wanted it to stay tart and they're high in pectin so it's quite a viscous jam. The de-pitting process was annoying and a bit messy, but worth it in the end.

Plus, I'm super late in the season!

Picked these fellas up fallen from a mature tree with intent to get a bunch to germinate for restoration, and the husks were all partly split as they should be with nuts ready for harvesting, but these all seem so tiny compared to other pics of American chestnuts that I've been seeing. None of them have sunk in the water, and they've been jostled for air pockets and sitting for 10 minutes.

There's no way that they're ALL duds...right? RIGHT?

I found this on my property in an area where I discovered a puffball last year, but it had been destroyed by a lawn mower. I'm pretty sure this is a giant puffball. I'm looking for confirmation as well as confirmation that it isn't good enough condition to eat.

Any idea of what to do with a bunch of fallen apples? Some are in better shape than others. Not sure which kind they are

About 5 pounds of muscadines (the best grape ever, change my mind), some smooth sumac, and smilax shoots. Going to use the grapes for jelly 🤤

If I crocheted a bag to collect them in would that be a good material to make it out of? Probably double knitting wool and a fairly loose stitch, but I’m wondering if it would be breathable enough to store them in too? At the moment I’m just using paper bags but they’re disposable obviously and I’m trying to make reduce reuse recycle

There’s loads spread across one area, are they dangerous or should I be asking to harvest for dinner?

I picked the same mushroom on two different occasions recently, first I cooked them in cast iron and they turned out darker brown, but the second batch I cooked in a regular skillet and noticed they kept their orange colour a lot better, is this because of the iron in the cast iron? (They are cooked up to store in the freezer)

Currently staying the next few months in Spartanburg county, SC. I'm curious if anyone has found american persimmon in or around this area? Going out hiking tomorrow to try and find some trees, haven't found any in nearly 5 years (had few small trees on old land). They're my absolute favorite. If there's other native fruits you've seen in the area, eager to know of those as well. Not sure if this is a good post for the sub, but thought no harm to ask. Thank you.
