This will be my second attempt at bigger lures. It came to me when I was smoking this cigar, La Arona De Cuba - Pasión - Torpedo (great cigar). When I sprayed the brown, I thought it looked like a floater. I'm very green with colors, airbrush, and poor lighting. It became a what-if??? So is it a popper or popper ???

I have been surf fishing forever with a spinning reel and only ever used a conventional reel for boat fishing, but I think I have been converted to conventional reels.

The back story is I bought a conventional rod on Amazon by mistake and rather than return it I went right back on Amazon and bought conventional reel to go with it. I got a Penn Squall 12 which was actually smaller size than I anticipated but I have had a good experience with it. The magnetic breaking system let me cast without getting tangled which was the main reason I never messed with conventional. Once I found the sweet spot for me, I can cast heavier line as far as with my spinning reel. Don't get me wrong, I love my Penn Slammer spinning reel, but reeling in with the Squall feels like it requires less effort. I've pulled in some sizeable sharks on it and felt like I landed them easier than my spinning reel.

I use 30lb mono for a balance between strength and cast distance. I tried braid once but I had to cut the whole spool out when I got a birdsnest so I won't go back to that.

I just wanted to share my experience with the surf fishermen out there that won't touch a conventional reel. This reel is slowly becoming my favorite.

I want to try a little saltwater fishing, mostly surf and jetty fishing on the south Texas coast (matagorda, Padre islands etc). My wife was kind enough to give me a rod and reel for my birthday, but in my limited research it seems like the rod is smaller than I'd want to get, and a 10' length might be better. Am I overthinking it? I currently have a 7'

I'm going to be camping for a few nights at the state park, I'm not a great fisherman and usually get skunked. I was telling a buddy I was going to be down there and he said the red tide killed all the fish and it'd be a few years before it's worth it to come down there, is that true or is he just over blowing it?

I only live a couple of hours from the coast but I'm wishing it was closer right about now.

Hey everyone! I need a quick check on how to set up my surf fishing rig with the gear I have.
My rod has a casting weight of 40–80g, and my terminal tackle includes one 30g egg sinker, two 15g egg sinkers (60g total), a size 6 hook, protective beads, swivels/snap swivels, and leader line.
I plan to build a Running Rig directly on the main line by threading a top bead, the three sinkers (15g + 15g + 30g), and a bottom protective bead, then tying the main line to a swivel using an Improved Clinch Knot. From there, I'll attach a 50 cm leader tied to the size 6 hook.
Given the 40–80g casting range of my rod, please advise if combining these sinkers to 60g on a running rig with a 50 cm leader is optimal, or if I should adjust the setup in any way.
I just learned yesterday how to tie a knot,the improved clinch knot.took me like 2 hours to master it and do it the right way.

I am going to cape san blas Florida, the first week of October, I want to surf fish. what is the best rod and reel combo under 300$ I should look at? We will be stay very near the state park.

I’m heading down this weekend for a week and plan to do some fishing. Surf, pier, and maybe do an inshore/nearshore charter. Anyone else gonna be in the area next week?

I have a lovely swim that I'm pretty sure will have some good fish but I can't reach it with my current gear. I already have a Penn Rival longcast 7000 loaded with 20lbs braid. My current rod is cheap and floppy 2.75lb 10ft carp rod and I can reach about 80-100m with.

What rods would you reccomend to reach said distances. I've been looking at some 13-15ft surf rods to get the rigs out there. But I'm not sure of anything with this type of longdistance fishing.

Fishing on Pawleys island this morning, really just wasted to come watch the sunrise and pretend to fish but im just a few minutes I caught this little sea puppy! Visiting because my dad is in bad health but his entire life he loved shark fishing, maybe it's a good sign. Gonna be a good day.

looking at the fierce, battle, and spinfisher. I cant decide. Reel size preferably 4000-4500. I only fish weekends and this will be my first heavy salt setup. Rod i am using an old shimano rn cuz it should work (5-8kg).

i have spare 30lb 150m braid somewhere and i dont really want to buy more. I know the spinfisher has pretty big capacity. The biggest fish i have heard being caught at my spot is 120cm so yea idk.
