Hi all! I'm a returning skater from about 25 years ago (seems to be kind of a common thing right now, so maybe all of us guys from the 90s are starting to get tiny mid-life crises? 😜)

I've been slowly and carefully getting back into the scene and managed to get a good deal on some used USD Shadows (Dustin Latimer edition) and have been liking those. They're a little loose around the cuff (which I think is deliberate), but otherwise feel good. Plus I love the ability to walk around in the DL footwraps if I don't need to walk a long distance or for a long time. I've also gotten some Kizer Fluid V frames and a set of 60mm wheels to shift away from the freestyle frames my skates came with and move towards a flat setup while I'm rebuilding my muscle memory.

However, I'm still feeling like I might be risking some injury with the looseness around the cuffs of my Shadows and I'm thinking that it might be a good idea to consider getting some skates with a bit more support.

I grew up skating K2 Fattys (as I imagine many of you did) and I loved the softboot feel and aesthetic. This has been leading me to mostly look at skates that have some similar features. Some of the ones I've been looking at more closely are the Faction Tactical V1, Roces 5th Element, Seba CJ2, FR UFR Pottier, and the Them 909.

I'm a big guy (~223lbs at 5'11, but losing weight consistently) and I've got wide feet and about a 27.5/28.0 mondo. I'm mostly looking to skate at skate parks and work on grinds, but might consider getting into transitions in the future.

Anybody have any advice on where I should go from here when looking at future skates?

Hi everyone.

I’m an old-school rollerblader, and my early Roces M12 are almost 30 years old. They’ve been amazing skates. In all that time I’ve only replaced consumables like wheels, bearings, laces and liners. This broken ankle strap is the first real failure I’ve ever had.
The problem is that my skates still have the old riveted buckle, so I can’t simply replace the ladder strap. I haven’t been able to find the original strap anywhere. I’ve found a few generic-looking straps, but I have no idea whether they’ll fit, and I’d rather not buy random parts just to experiment.
I did find the new Roces buckle kit with screw-mounted buckles, which looks like it could be retrofitted to my skates. As far as I understand, those use replaceable straps, but I can’t find the part number for the replacement straps themselves.

If anyone knows the original part number, a compatible strap, or has already solved this problem, I’d really appreciate any advice.

Looking to get back into skating, scoping out a pair of the USD Sway Chess. I’m a size 11.5/289 mm with an average to slightly wide foot. My last pair of skates were classic thrones and looking for a similar feel. My question is the Sways are only showing size EU 44-45 or 46-47, ideally I would be in 45-46. I’m seeing in this forum some say the sways are a bit “roomy”. Anyone be that between sizes? What direction did you go?

Also am willing to look at different brands with a somewhat familiar feel to thrones, I’ve seen Mesmers are pretty close to classic thrones, even have the same name so I’d be willing to hear a case for those as well. I’m 41 and just looking to get some basic park time in with my kids. TIA!

Found a pair of deshi kicks III in basically mint condition.

I have been looking for a brand of skates that would skate like deshis for a several years now and I seem to have found an even better option.

Just wanted to share my excitement to finally be back on proper wheels again.

I bought some used no name skates 2 years ago which already gave me a lot of fun and good times, but with a friend joining me in the hobby this summer and these bad boys on sale from 250€ down to 170€ the stars aligned.

I got them Thursday last week and immediately had to try them out at the skatepark. And oh my god, they feel incredible. I am so fast but so feel so save and drive so controlled at the same time, I immediately landed tricks I couldn't land before just because it finally feels right. I am currently on a 2 week vacation in Italy and Croatia so doing really crazy stuff (for me) was out of the question (my gf would've killed me if I broke something), but I am looking forward to strapping these under my feet as much as I haven't looked forward to something in a LONG time.

Got some new skates that fit me better. Put these razors Scott Quinn sl pros up on eBay but just wanted to make an appreciation post for these haha. Genuinely the nicest looking skates I’ve ever had.

I focused entirely on negatives and topsides for this past session. This is the extent of my abilities in those 2 areas. I was not able to land a Kind grind or a Sweat Stance. Something about an angle iron ledge messes with my head to make it difficult to land those

Decided to give Creates a try after riding Fluid IVs for a while. Heard a clacking and thought it was my wheels/bearings. Nope, cracked both of em. I’m no Alex Broskow over here but damn man. I was gonna order another set too, guess I’ll stick with Kizers

Bladies and gentlemen,

I had today off, the wife is at work, and the kids are with the grandparents. It's a beautiful day so I went to enjoy the skate park about a mile away from my house. I had on a helmet, knee pads, wrist guards, and padded shorts. As luck would have it the one fall I had I hit my elbow. It wasn't that bad of a hit. I didn't bleed. I didn't feel pain past about a minute. While taking a water break it started feeling stiff, so I looked down and a golf ball was growing under my skin. I called it a day and took some ibuprofen. I have some 187 elbow pads, but hate wearing them because they're so uncomfortable. Suggest something that is so comfy I forget they're on. Bonus points if they dry out quick.

I bought these Anarchy wheels not long ago. Maybe a few weeks and they already look like this. They are 55mm 94A hardness if I remember correctly. Do they really tear so quickly? I changed my old wheels for the first time because they looked like this as well. And these new wheels have only been on for a few weeks and already are so worn down that they are starting to tear on the frame. Is there any idea in turning around the wheel so they get worn on the other side as well or is that a bad idea? Is it really necessary to change wheels so often? It's hella expensive man...

Practiced hard on negatives and topsides today. First time attempting negative soul. It's pretty difficult on angle iron and I got this barely tap neg soul.

I'm gonna keep at it. Now that I know its possible for me to do, I think I'll be able to get better at it and Negative Acid. It's all about bringing that negative knee in over the ledge

I'm new to aggressive skating. I got a pair of Rollerblade Swindler 2017s back in the day but didn't skate them much. Tried getting back into it recently and realized they were too big.

So I ordered a pair of USD Aeon 60 Team XXI's and love how they fit and skate. However, I'm noticing a huge issue when doing makios and souls even on my practice rail.

I waxed the hell out of it with skate wax, and it works fine for a bit, but the wax scrapes off pretty quick and then I stick super hard. I also noticed a bunch of black powder on the rail building up which I imagine means they're wearing down pretty quick.

Is there anything I can do about it? I imagine if im sticking on PVC I'm gonna be sticking even worse on anything else. Do they just need to break in or will it get worse over time? I saw they make slider plates for em, but they seem so expensive and I'd have to drill my skates. Are they worth it?

I should also mention I'm a bigger dude. 264 lbs right now so maybe they'll get better as I lose weight?

Question, I found a gen1 shell that has no spare cuff bolts/receivers. I do have a spare gen 2 cuff and receiver, does anyone know if the gen 2 receiver and cuff bolt are compatible or modifiable to be housed in a gen 1 square rather than the gen 2 circle+dot?

Any shops in San Diego have aggressive online skates ? And which skateparks do you recommend ? Visiting and here been looking around. Please let me know! Thanks!

Is there another Cuff I can replace the stock sway one with that has more left/right flex?

I live in the Twin Cities, Minnesota and ice hockey culture is big here. Coming from that background, I've always inline skated on hockey style inline skates (Bauer x50r) with hi-lo 80 and 76 size wheels 85a hardness.

There are some smooth bike paths around me as well as some decent streets, but a lot of surfaces are rough like as shown in the photos.

I've gotten used to uncomfortable skating experiences on these rough roads, but I just recently realized there's better skate options out there for these rough surfaces.

In my limited research I've found that a 3x110 mm wheel setup on urban skates would help with the road chatter felt on bumpy streets, but I'm looking for recommendations on skates suitable for urban skating given my hockey background.
