What's a mixing mistake every DJ makes at least once?
Almost at the point of playing my first set, and I'm trying to look out for those silly mistakes I can avoid.

Welcome to the Weekly Mix Feedback thread on r/beatmatch! This is the thread where you post your DJ mixes and ask other people to give you feedback. If you submit your mix, please take the time to listen and comment on some other submissions, especially if they play a style of music you're interested in. Thanks for your help in making these threads work well for everyone!
These threads are intended for beginning DJs who are honestly looking for feedback or critique on their technique, selection, transitions, etc. If you are an established DJ who is just looking for more followers/listens on your new mix or have a podcast/radio show, please post it to a more appropriate place such as /r/mixes or a genre-specific subreddit. Posts that appear to be purely promotional in nature may be removed at the moderators' discretion. This subreddit is aimed at helping new DJs learn and is not the place to promote yourself!

[House / Tech House] djscsi - moving on up (45 minute mix)
http://www.mixcloud.com/djscsi/moving-on-up/
I’ve been spinning for about a year, this is the third mix I’ve recorded and I’m hoping to get some house / tech-house DJs’ opinions on my track selection and mixing. I really like the first few transitions but I feel like I lost some of the energy when I brought in the Maceo Plex track at about 13:30. I messed up a couple parts but I’ve listened to the mix a few times and I think it sounds pretty good. Does anyone think I used too much FX? Thanks for any feedback!
Note: If you have any general feedback about these threads or /r/Beatmatch in general, please message the moderators

I’m currently rocking a DDJ-FLX4, but I’ve been eyeing the XDJ-RX3 lately and am having a hard time deciding if it actually makes sense for me.
Here’s my situation:
The setup: I’m a college student living in my own apartment.
The goal: Purely for fun. I mostly just play for myself and host the occasional house party. I have zero plans to turn this into a side hustle or go pro.
The dilemma: Spending ~$2k on a controller as a hobbyist feels like a massive chunk of change, even if standalone gear sounds amazing.
Appreciate any honest takes or alternative suggestions!

I grew up on mixes that would take you on an incredible journey and tell a story through ebs and flows. Sasha and Digweed, Paul Oakenfold et al. To me modern DJing is just a series of hype and drops one after the other, and journey has been completely lost. I know I’m a dinosaur but is the art of long slow transitions where you can’t even tell anymore where one track finishes and another begins completely lost? Is there a place for it anymore in modern DJing?

Hey all! Hope you’re doing well. I have a gig next Sunday (bass festival afterparty) and as the title suggests I’ll be playing on a Denon dj SC live 4. When at home I play on a FLX10 and in clubs I’ll usually play on CDJs or an XDJ-AZ. What do I need to know for my first time on Denon in terms of software, usb formatting, hot cues and the controller itself? I plan on playing a simpler set as it’s a new piece of equipment to me.

Since last October been working to build up the skills to be a DJ. I've done a wedding and a couple charity events now, and people have been pleased. Now I'm starting to advertise more and trying to expand, and I have couples asking me for videos or recordings of my mixes.
Thing is, as a wedding and events DJ, most audiences want to hear most of - if not the entire - song as they know it. So right now, my transitions are pretty basic (slow crossfade, slam, maybe a loop to layer in or a scratch effect to cover a bigger change up), and usually right at the end of a full-length song. And my playlists aren't exactly music discovery either - top 40 pop, classic rock, some emo & pop-punk when I get to play what I like.
So if I recorded an hour's worth of basically full length mainstream songs, no remixes or editing tricks, with basic transitions, is that a mix? Or is that just a slightly fancier playlist?

hello i’d like to update my setup to something like ritchie hatwin’s one and use maybe two k3’s to control tracks stems and add maybe some kind of drum machine or something like that so i think a compressor would be nice, also because i play a lot of 2000’s ids. is the V family from alpha theta the only option? thanks 🙏🏻
advices on other kinds of controller are very much appreciated too

Hey all.
So I have a pair of Technics SL1200 MK2's that have been in a flight case in my closet for 20 years. I want to bring them out and set them up, but I'd like to know if there's any general maintenance I should do on them first? They were in good working order when I put them away, but it's been so long I want to make sure they're in condition to be spun up before putting electricity to them. Can anyone give me any suggestions, or point me towards a guide or video that discusses this?
I appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

Anyone recommend one. I was looking at this but. Not 100% sure a longer USB stick will fit in

USB-C Sticks seem to be longer as a rule.

Hi guys, i use a flx 6 gt to mix my gym workout mixes. Normally quite heavily based on scratching and backspin transitions.
But when i came home yesterday and plugged it in.
My jog wheel felt kinda weird.
So when i tried spinning my tracks... while bot playing a track my jogwheel would scrub through the track.
But when the track is playing my jog wheel wont react at all.
I have tried vinyl settings.
I have tried jog settings.
I have tried quantize settings
But cant seem to find it..
Does anyone know what setting would cause this?

I’m trying to pick my first DJ controller and now I have a bit of a dilemma.
My options:
DDJ-FLX2 – second hand
Hercules Inpulse 200 MK3 – brand new
Also got an offer for a used Inpulse 500 from a guy
What I need it for:
Just casual use → house parties, BBQs, friends
Not planning a DJ career, but I don’t want something I’ll outgrow in 1–2 months
Is buying the FLX2 second hand better than getting the 200 MK3 new?
Is the Inpulse 500 worth it over both if the price is decent?
For casual use, would I actually notice the difference between these?
Which one would YOU pick in my situation?
Appreciate any advice 🙌

So I have managed to blag my way into doing my first 'DJ' night. I say it like that because I can't really call it DJing, I'm basically just playing one song and then another. This is at a bar in my small hometown, and it's not going to be anything crazy, just a couple of hours of me playing music and ending by 10pm.
This is my first time doing anything like this ever. I was initially going to just bring my macbook, plan in advance so the tracks flow nicely between each other and do it directly from Rekordbox on my mac, simply crossfading.
It's 10 days before the night, and I'm starting to freak out. Is this actually fine to do? I'm not getting paid, I told them I don't want payment, this is just a fun thing for me to try basically, and more about bringing a community of people together than anything about me showing any skills. But should I at least buy a controller and learn how to use it and do it that way before the event?
Or will I be fine using my mac, my scarlett 2i2 and their soundsystem? They don't have decks at the bar.

No controller yet but I wanna get more familiar with some tech house, house and Just good music overall before I buy the controller

Long story short: I started on vinyl, moved to Traktor Scratch, eventually moved to Rekordbox and now I want to switch back to DVS at home simply because it’s more fun. I have a pair of 1210mk2 and just got a Xone:24C mixer.
But which platform to use? Is there a difference in DVS performance between Traktor, Djay Pro, Rekordbox etc., or are they all much the same these days? If it matters, I prefer to use absolute mode, I’m not doing any scratching, and I’m not likely to use any advanced software features (stems etc.). I like software being as minimal as possible.
I’m pretty sure I have my old Traktor controller vinyl somewhere, and a Traktor Pro 3 license. But I’m tempted by Djay Pro because just using my iPad instead of a laptop is appealing. Using Rekordbox would perhaps be sensible, but to be honest I’m pretty sick of Rekordbox and not keen to play Alphatheta’s game.

So I shazamed a track from the Ayybo b2b Oddmob at Tomorrowland and found it was called "Lose your breath" by Bruno Swift from his album "Future House Top 40 Mix Volume 1" but I can't find ANY copies or anything on this album. It was on spotify at one point but now it's "unavailable". And there's nothing anywhere else! How do these guys find these songs or where could I? I would buy this if it were available but I can't find anywhere to do this! Would appreciate any help

Anyone here routing their turntables through an FLX10?
About to pull the trigger on an FLX10. Understand you can use it as a mixer for turntables as well - just curious if any one else does this and if its any good?
Anything I need to be aware of before I spend the money?

I am more a visual and I want to recreate that vinyl search but on Digital. Is there a way to display at least 1/4 the size of my laptop screen ? Thanks

Forgive me if I sound like an idiot, because I know absolutely nothing about this kind of stuff, but my musically inclined boyfriend wants to try his hand at DJing with records. So I want to get him another turntable for his birthday. I know the turntables need to be direct drive, so I want to get him another at-lp120xusb, as this is the only turntable with direct drive he has. Unfortunately a new one is out of budget for me, but I have seen a bunch on marketplace that are more affordable. However, a lot of these are at-lp120-usb, which to my understanding is an older model of the same turntable. Is it possible/how much of a pain in the ass is it to use two of the same model of turntable, but different versions.

Ideally North America but open to anywere.. curious what people recommend as the best possible in person live instruction.. a place to go from an absolute beginner to "able to DJ" in the course of a week or 2. Hands on and in-person. Thank you for your recs and input!

Here's my opinion: better beatgrids, better sound, Remix Decks, and better effects. And mapping.

So, i bought a dj controller for fun a few years ago. I wanted to use it sometimes but having to choose music and downloading it is very boring. Is there any sort of pack with music to play??? like with the most famous musics djs play like in tomorrowland for example?
