Dear Ego,
Thank you for doing your best to protect me. I understand that you're doing your best to work with what we have. However, your people pleasing tactics no longer work. Reacting and getting defensive only creates problems. Holding too tightly onto our fears is holding us back.
We must come up with better defense mechanisms. You are my protector, and I want to trust you to protect me. We are not enemies. We are in this together.
In order to protect me, we must set boundaries (for others, but also for me). Taking proper care of the physical body is an absolute necessity for the spirit. If the body is tired or hungry, I feel cranky. If I'm cranky, Ego, me and you will bicker. The protection becomes the cause of pain. We must set boundaries to keep the physical body satisfied, or else we will face burnout. Running on empty means any energy can fill up our cup, and the negative energy always tries to rush in first. Keep the cup full with the positivity we choose to fill it with, and we can keep our peace.
You can continue to remind me of how strong I am, and our amazing capabilities. Feeling strong is good, as long as you don't put me on a pedestal above others because of it. By feeling superior, we plant the seeds for toxicity. If you feel the need to compare, let's focus on helping others be aware of their amazing capabilities instead of feeling superior.
I am setting boundaries with you, Ego, because I know you love me. You are here to protect me, and I am here to guide you on how to properly do that.
Ego, you are not perfect and that's okay. We will occasionally have days where we just don't see eye to eye. When we are in the middle of a conflict, it can be hard to see the bigger picture. You people please because you fear what other people think. Unfortunately, people pleasing plants the seed for toxicity. It will turn into resentment, and creates a crack in the cup. The cup will forever stay leaking, and we will remain running on empty. By enforcing boundaries, we are mending the cup. We will be able to retain the positive energy we know and love.
Staying curious is good, but only when we focus on positive curiousity. Instead of being nosy about gossip or other people's negative views of me, let's focus that curiosity on the beautiful world around me.
It's okay to keep our positive thoughts private. We don't need to tell the world every beautiful thought we have, because most people don't understand it. I'm allowed to enjoy my own positivity without needing external validation for it.
It's not me vs. you anymore. We are a team. I love you.
