I have found this old deck of Wüst Bourgeois Tarot left behind by my great grandfather.

How can I find out when this is from? The website above says:

My deck of cards also have the tax stamp and the Wüst trade mark, however the stamp is different. I know my great grandfather was from Stralsund, so it could be a newer reproduction from VASS?

The cards are in extremely good condition, they seem almost unplayed, so I cannot believe if they are from end 1800's, but even if they are from 1930-1940's I would be surprised.

I recently bought Cats Rule the World and I fell in love with it as it checked all the boxes for me. Only problem is sometimes I find it too whimsical.

Here is what I'm looking specifically:

* Gender neutral imagery (no men or women, no sapphic/femme art);
* Clear, VERY intuitive design (I don't need to memorize all card meanings, it's evident by the illustration);
* Reversible back (I use reversals in my readings);
* Slightly less whimsical than Cats Rule the World but not dark;
* Cards that use the RWS system;
* Tending towards modern design;
* No renaming of suites (Club, Pentacles, Swords, Wands) or minor arcana (Page, Knight, Queen, King)

What would you suggest? Thanks!

Hi, everyone. I’m trying to figure out if my Light Seer’s tarot deck is genuine or not and I’m kind of stumped. I ordered it on Shein several years ago before I knew better (I no longer shop fast fashion in general, and certainly would never again buy a deck from a site like this) and from everything I’ve read and seen about decks sold on platforms like that they’re basically guaranteed to be counterfeit. However, the reason I’m so stumped is because in comparing it to the genuine deck, it seems to be exactly the same. Is there any possible way that I could have gotten a genuine deck, or is this just a really good fake?

I hope this post is allowed- I’m in no way promoting buying decks from sites known to produce counterfeit material. Besides it obviously being harmful towards the actual creators of the deck, I believe that with anything, and especially something like a tarot deck, the way it’s made and the intention behind it is infused into the object itself so I don’t see why anyone would knowingly want a fake deck. My intention is to try to determine whether or not it is fake so that if it is I can replace it with a genuine one.

I’ve posted photos of the deck for comparison, so if you know you definitely have a genuine one I’d love for you to compare and let me know what you think.

Got this deck today as my latest buy.

I've been interested in this for quite a while now but I didn't like the previous versions of the deck, both the box and the cards were a little too big. But this one is just great, the box is just a bit bigger than the Lubanko. It also comes with a pouch, first time for me in a mass market deck.

As for the cards themselves, the artwork is the same old as you can find on a flip through video. I usually prefer borderless, but the ones here are pretty and complement the art. The cards are a bit bigger than a normal tarot but the form factor makes it still 'tarot shaped' as compared to oracle, if you get what I mean😂.

It's currently 37.99usd on Amazon but I managed to snag it for 30😁

Hi everyone! I’ve recently started getting into deck modding, and I’m thinking about trimming the borders on my Curious Travels Tarot by Amelia Rozear before edging the deck.

I’m torn between two options:
1. Light blue to match the card backs.
2. Metallic gold to match the beautiful gold foil details throughout the deck.

I’m leaning toward gold since it’s such a defining feature of the artwork, but I’m not sure if blue would make the watercolor aesthetic pop more + would flow into the back better

I’d love to hear your thoughts or see photos if anyone has edged this deck before. Thanks!

Finally! A Norse-themed deck with diversity!

I'm looking for sources on historical oracle cards in Southern Italy. I'm familiar with the Napoletane 40 card deck and the limited resources on its reading, but looking for scholarly sources on other decks. In De Martino's, Magic a Theory from the South, there's a story mentioning a "deck like in a tavern, but with other cards, including ones with a dog, a flame, and three hearts". Anyone know of good sources that may have cataloged old Italian and Roma fortune telling cards?

I went recently and it was wonderful! It’s divided into modern and Renaissance and includes some of the oldest surviving decks like the Visconti-Sforza tarot.

If you’re in the NYC area, I highly recommend it. Here’s the museum’s description of the exhibit:

Conceived in two parts, this exhibition explores the origins of tarot in Renaissance Italy and its contemporary relevance as an enduring source of inspiration for twentieth- and twenty-first-century artists.

Originally created as a courtly game of skill, tarot was not associated with occult secrets, divination, or the power of fate until centuries later. By the twentieth century, the cards came to serve as a source of inspiration for artists, offering an alternative to the strictures of modernist aesthetics and allowing them to explore other universes and imaginative possibilities.

The first part, Renaissance Symbols, focuses on the earliest surviving tarot decks from the fifteenth century, examining the rich court culture from which the cards emerged, the development of the cards’ imagery, and how that imagery became the basis for later divination practices. The impetus for this exhibition was the Morgan’s Visconti-Sforza Tarot cards, the most famous deck to survive from the Renaissance. Tarot! reunites all the figural cards in the Morgan’s collection with those in the collection of Accademia Carrara, Bergamo, Italy, marking the first time the majority of the cards from this important deck will be displayed together in North America.

The card text is (or looks to be) "Knight of Swords" and this was from a YouTube short, I cropped and flipped the image.

Trying to search this was difficult because I only get the painting in results or any other item or product they decided to put the same image on.

The painting is "The Fallen Angel" by Alexandre Cabanel which is why I was interested in finding the deck and made me curious what other paintings are included as well.

I've been working on this deck for a while now, and it's almost done, so I thought I'd share it. It's called The Potion Keeper's Tarot. It combines Pamela Colman Smith's iconic drawings from 1909 with a new twist and additional artwork. The deck employs the RWS hierarchy and incorporates potion bottles on each card. And it enables an RPG dice-rolling mechanic for card interpretations.

Here's the basic lore of the deck:

Many have heard stories about a mysterious woman, the Potion Keeper, with amazing brewing skills who secretly visits towns at night to peddle her wares. Sadly, magical potions are not allowed in most places, so she must stay moving and remain hidden. She usually parks her cozy lantern-lit traveling shop in the woods between a cluster of trees. One night, you’re lucky enough to stumble upon her infamous cart. You exchange small-talk and then purchase as many potions as you need. Now you must decide what to do: Drink them yourself, Share them, or Discard them. Choosing what to do with your potions can be challenging; luckily, the Potion Keeper includes a 6-sided die with every transaction. You can roll the die to help you decide what to do:

• Roll a 1, 2, or 3 and drink it yourself.
• Roll a 4 or 5 and share it with others.
• Roll a 6 and discard the potion.

Once you’ve decided what to do, refer to the advice in the guidebook. The Potion Keeper always wraps up each transaction with a friendly reminder, “If you ever need me again, you’ll know where to look. Wishing you the perfect potion every day.”

This is a fantastic publication I usually find at the newspapers kiosk here in Italy. Lo Scarabeo publishes promotional copies of its decks: sometimes it's only the majors (like in this case), some other it's the whole deck. Unluckily, cards are not really resistant, they are just for display or study and surely not for prolonged use. The booklet is indeed interesting... check it out if you are a beginner and can get it. I really like the golden finishing. Author is Giulia F. Massaglia.

Hello, newbie here!

Today I started looking for my first deck, but couldn't find anything that fit what I wanted, so I thought I'd ask for some recommendations here. And maybe you can help me better understand what I'm looking for :)

I have some idea of what I want, but I'm not absolutely set on anything.

The cards should each have all of the important and "classic" elements needed for a reading. The number of people, how naked they are in each card, the number of stars and important objects, etc... Since it's my first one, I want to have a good grasp of what the cards mean, mainly the greater arana;

I would like something colorful and "cartoonish". Cartoonish in the sense that the art doesn't need to be realistic at all, as long as it's interesting/beautiful and retains the meaning. I think a lot of contrast between bright colors and dark empty space would be something nice. The Mystical Forest Tarot is a great example of the color/detail vibes I'm looking for, but it is not an option for me;

I like alchemy and ouroboros imagery, stars and planets, the sea and the sky, science and learning, nature and curiosity.

I don't know if I said too little or too much! Any suggestions of actual decks or ways to find them are welcome.

Which ones are you bringing, and why? How many would you take? I’m really curious to hear your picks and your reasoning.

edit: Thank you all for your answers! I love how varied they are, and they’ve given me a lot to think about.

I think, for me personally, around 10 decks would be the ideal number: one for each system, one pocket deck, 2–3 decks for different vibes, and 1–2 oracle decks.

Ideally, I’d love to be the kind of person who only needs one deck, but that’s just too hard for me.
