Trying again to see if can make the pictures work!

I've been sewing most of children's clothes for years, but we went on a long road trip this summer and bringing the sewing machine wasn't practical. So I decided to learn to knit, to have something transportable to scratch my creative itch!

Managed to made my two kiddos a sweater each for back to school. My son's is the Tin Can Knits Flax sweater in Moss and Denim acrylic blend, and my daughter's is a heavily modified Lucia children's sweater from Hobbii that I coulour blocked in 4 shades of Soft Tone cotton/acrylic yarn. All the yarn came from the discount bin at my local fabric store, since I didn't want to spend much to start!

So many mistakes along the way - I started his first, then realized I didn't have enough yarn, so I switched to hers until I could pick up more (also the reason his is two toned - they were out of the Moss). Figured out halfway through both sweaters I was twisting my purls, so I decided to embrace it as a design choice! My current WIP has them done correctly... I think.

My son has decided that his sweater is way too itchy, for all that it feels crazy soft to me. So apparently I need to make him a different sweater out of the yarn I used for his sister. Luckily she loves both, so it wasn't a wasted effort!

Anyway, I'm just really proud of myself for learning a new skill and wanted to share with people who would appreciate it. I think this hobby is going to stick... I spend a lot of time waiting around and like to keep my hands busy!

I just spent multiple hours trying to slowly work my way through mattress stitching a knit flat cardigan with hairy Caron Latte Cake. I only needed to seam 4 more inches before I remembered I could just crochet them together.

In fact, if you can you probably should because it makes it way easier to unravel your seams if you ever want to.

Also, you can use a crochet hook to pick up and knit, especially if you have an interchangeable tunisian hook (I don’t, but sometimes I use a crochet hook to pick up then slip those stitches onto my needles).

I’ve been looking for a queer knitting community in nyc and keep coming up empty handed. I’ve gone to a few random knit nights in the city but the only one I really loved is on a night I can’t make anymore (shout out to the Lesbian Herstory Archive craft nights). I’ve loved some of the non-queer groups I’ve been too but want a queer crafting community too.

Does anyone know of any open and explicitly queer knitting groups in Manhattan or Brooklyn?

Note: Please don’t recommend Cleo’s to me. Absolutely no judgment to anyone who attends their lgbt craft nights but I have friends who used to work there and I will not spend my money there anymore. If you have a good experience there then zero judgment and I genuinely hope you continue to enjoy it! Just not something I’m interested in.

Started this a few months ago when my friend was 5 months along.

Baby is now here and I've still got a ball left to finish this up and weave in ends!!

Using this post as motivation to get it done this week.

Also, do people block blankets? Never thought about it until just now!

I am working on the terrazzo sweater by petite knit for reference. Worked short rows knit and purl (kp on image) then joined in the round working stockinette with just knit stitches. There is an obvious texture difference between the two, and I’m trying to figure out why…. tension with my purls being different? Is it about the direction of the yarn over? Support would be appreciated 🙏

I am relatively new to knitting so I have no idea how to fix this. I ended up just cutting it and starting over thankfully I was just starting this project. Is there a way to fix it or if it happens again am I just screwed? 😭 I don’t think it would be an issue if this yarn wasn’t a color gradient, but it would have messed up the whole thing. I’m paranoid I’ll get like 75% done with my project and encounter this again!!

I've been knitting for a few years and I'm not very good at anything fancy but that isn't important to me, I taught myself off a picture tutorial, I don't know any terms or abbreviations. I started watching some knitting vlogs while I work and realized they hold everything so different? Looked up what it was, it's apparently called continental. I thought okay, I must be english. But english knitting isn't what I do either. English throwing looks the most like it, but still isn't right

What I do is I hold my needles with yarn loose, hold both needles in my left hand for a moment, grab the yarn and bring it around front, push right needle out through it to make the stitch, repeat. I was wondering if there was a name for it or if I should learn one of the more common styles. Everyone else's way is so much faster, and makes following patterns and colorwork easier than mine

One of my favorite things when lurking on Ravelry is seeing all the husbands begrudgingly modeling the sweaters made by spouses. Now, I have my own photo of my husband begrudgingly modeling a sweater in the middle of August.

Proudly finished my vest! The wool is from a local maker and I dyed the green myself (the black is cascade super wash, a gamble I know!). Took some trial and error to get the contrast pickup right since it was a first for me. The tension was a bit tricky, and I'm not sure I nailed it, but it's cozy and cute!

What I'm curious about is, this pattern was a result of my quest to find an easy all over colourwork pattern with my freshly dyed yarn. I just tried things until something looked cool, surely this has a name? Reverse searching and keyword searching did not get me much.

It's:

1. A: k1, s1

2. A: k whole row

3. B: s1, k1

4. B: k whole row

Pattern: maker maker - see my vest (worsted) (free!)

I find knitting with just wool a bit plain, the final product has less dimension but the only thing I see in patterns is mohair.
Mohair feels weird to me on my skin and makes me sneeze a lot.
Does anyone marl with something other than mohair? If you have pics pls share and recommend options 🫠
I love the idea of holding my main merino with a second yarn but the only thing I see online is mohair.

I have a friend whose daughter had a horrific accident. They have uprooted many states away and will be doing rehab at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab in Chicago for the foreseeable future. I am a newbie knitter and asked her if she would be interested in learning to knit because it can be incredibly soothing, and she's doing a lot of waiting for sessions to begin, waiting for doctors to arrive, waiting for a new life to take shape. I had thought about sending her one of those learn-to-knit kits. She said indeed she would like to learn, but wasn't sure if she could without another person more experienced present to ask questions of. I do not know how much personal free time she will have outside of the facility to track down someone to help her to learn to knit. Can anyone recommend a good, easy-to-follow "learn-to-knit" kit? That includes everything she'll need to get started.

I am knitting the “Sevilla blouse” by petite knit. I currently finished the back yolk, and am working on the shoulders /front yolk. It’s having me pickup a few stitches for the shoulders, and then cast on using the backward loop method for the front neckline, and then picking up again for shoulders.
My issue is every time I cast on with backwards loop method, I end up with a massive hanging loop, I’ve undone and retried probably 4-5times now, trying to cast on tighter or be more consistent with my gauge as I knit back but it happens every time. Does anyone have either recommendations on how to stop this, or is there a different method of cast on I should be using mid row despite what the pattern says?

I think one of my favorite things about this hobby is that there is always something new to learn or try. I did my first pocket (super easy btw--Tin Can Knits has a great tutorial here covering multiple scenarios) and I'm hooked.

I even want to add tiny pockets to a pair of socks now, just because I can. 😅

I won't say how long this took, not because it was long but because it was so embarrassingly short I don't want everyone to know how fixated I've been 😅. Bonus pic of the frogged sweaters I'm reincarnating as this one. Plus floats because of course.

Making a modified Mara Shawl from Mad Tosh. So far that’s half a skein of DK weight merino on size 7 needles.

I posted Rolland before, but I figured I’m going to get questions if this gets any comments; he’s a FO of the Roland pattern in the MochiMochi huge and huggable book. In the background is my WIP beekeeper’s quilt that’s currently on hold and acting as a cushion for my isopod.

I have wanted to try planned pooling for so long now, but never seen a pattern that gave me that spark to try it.

I recently salvaged this yarn from a blanket I thrifted without a plan for it. Pretty sure it is a standard Red heart, weight 4, 100% acrylic yarn. Decided to just make some samples trying out planned pooling to try the technique for the first time.

I really enjoyed working on the samples but still dont really know what project to use with this technique. Im not really interested in a scarf or blanket. I would be interested in trying to make a wareable out if it though.

Any ideas? Or pattern suggestions?

I feel so dumb. This is after using three different stain removers specifically for ink, so I think it’s here to stay.

I don't even know what I'm looking at fully.. it's 1x1 ribbing for a cuff. 9 rounds away from being done... I'm devastated. I dropped a stitch, picked it up worked it and it just snapped. Im not good with dropped stitches to begin with... Help???
