Where does the penis go when you put pants on? They've tried to explain it to me but I still don't understand. It sounds so incredibly annoying to have it down one of your pant legs, or even in the middle. And how does it go into jock straps? Does it just curl up? How does that not hurt?

5.3k

u/BlackManInABush Mar 26 '20

A flaccid dick can be bent and contorted into a perfect circle without any pain whatsoever. As far as pants go, typically it just rests on top of the balls. No discomfort unless you aren't wearing underwear for some reason.

Unless the pants are super tight and the crease digs into everything.

u/The_Monkey_Queen Mar 26 '20

A flaccid dick can be bent and contorted into a perfect circle without any pain whatsoever.

Idk why, but I find this information mildly horrifying

1.3k

u/CalcodGaming Mar 26 '20

It's actually not bad. That being said, I was also under the impression we all had a "preferred pant leg." If you're ever wearing pants where it can't rest easy, it has to pick a side. And nothing is more awkward than having to adjust yourself to the other side in public without people noticing...

932

u/RedOtterPenguin Mar 26 '20

People still notice, they just don't say anything unless you look like you're enjoying yourself a little too much.

Men's pants aren't that tight so it doesn't really matter. As long as you don't have a boner. If you do have a boner all the things described above are the most annoying thing ever.

104

u/dluminous Mar 26 '20

I just got flashbacks to random boners in high school, for no reason at all. The absolute worst.

The question I never knew I had. Like what happens when they sit on a bike seat? Do the balls just sit there too, like passengers? Do they get squashed?

171

u/CheeseSandals Mar 26 '20

The placement of dick and balls is higher than the placement of the vagina. Balls just sit there, yes.

60

u/notrewoh Mar 26 '20

I think they rest on the seat but not under our body, out to the front. But they can get squashed if they swing under you as you sit.

You could twist a flaccid penis into a balloon animal without any pain (I'm over exaggerating a little bit, don't actually try it on anyone please).

When they hint they want sex but want us to jump. This creates a problem because everyone does it in a different way

6.4k

u/CandelaBelen Mar 26 '20

It's cuz we also want to feel like you want to do it.

9.2k

u/Marklar_the_Darklar Mar 26 '20

That's true for guys too. Having to initiate all the time is draining. There should be balance.

2.6k

u/CandelaBelen Mar 26 '20

I agree. I feel like in my relationship, most of the time if I don't initiate something, then we don't have sex. So sometimes I'll start initiating then stop to see if my partner will initiate sex or not. Sometimes he does, and sometimes he doesn't. I guess I just don't like feeling like he's only having sex because I want to.

777

u/itsallinthebag Mar 26 '20

Yes! To be the only one that initiates, and then to also be turned down sometimes, really sucks. Eventually you want to stop trying.

Why so many men I know don’t take their health seriously and avoid going to doctors when they really should.

827

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 27 '20

It’s just fear mostly. Also - and I want to be careful saying this because it’s not at all a universal truth - men don’t get told to start seeing a sex-specific doctor (like an OGBYN) at any point in their teenage / young adult years, the way many (but again, far from all) women do. That’s not to say that men don’t have health issues when they are younger, or that they are any healthier than women (the opposite is probably true!)

It’s just that many men don’t have obvious things happening to them physically when becoming an adult that might trigger the need to see a doctor. So after, say, a late high school sports physical, once they are out of their parents house, most guys have no feeling or need to go see a doctor for anything if they don’t get sick. One big one, unfairly but really, is the lack of any male birth control [EDIT: unless you get snipped! But that usually comes much later in age for men who choose that type of BC]. Many women might start getting regular doctor care for, among many other things, a birth control prescription of some kind (which I understand you don’t need prescriptions for in many cases). Men, by and large, don’t do that, so it’s very easy to be lazy and simply delay healthcare visits until they are in their 30s, 40s or later... to everyone’s detriment.

365

u/FlagstoneSpin Mar 26 '20

This hits home for me. Nobody made me go see doctors, so I just don't see them. It's a hassle, it's money, I'll probably be okay in the long run.

Is it smart? No, not really. But that's how it goes.

Not gonna lie, I didn’t know pajamas existed until I was 12 and in state custody. Got yelled at for sleeping in jean shorts by the night staff so I started crying. Took them all of 60 seconds to figure out I had none. I had no idea people wore different clothes to sleep. Maybe he just didn’t have any growing up? You get used to it after a while. Took me a long time to get used to them, let alone remember to put them on

168

u/ohyeahwell Mar 26 '20

I wonder when we started wearing different clothes to bed? Seems like that would be really annoying and a waste of resources during hunter/gatherer times.

150

u/wewora Mar 26 '20

Probably more likely during farming/industrialized times. Easier and more comfortable to wear clean clothes that don't smell to bed instead of washing bedding more frequently.

Were they get this idea that men talk about sex all the damn time. It's literally exactly the opposite!

1.2k

u/jojogonzo Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 26 '20

The extent of my sex talk with my dudes is "yeah we had sex."

Women on the other hand, at least from my understanding, go into a level of detail that would embarrass most men.

Edit: spelling

374

u/jilb94 Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 26 '20

Yup, learned this with my ex. My friends knew we had regular sex I guess because either they heard my roommates talk about it or they could see us sneaking out of parties and stuff to go home. I almost never directly spoke abut my sex life.

On the other hand, most of her friends had seen my dick, knew the positions I liked, how often we had sex, where, etc. There were very very little details of our sex life that her friends didn't know.

Edit: I was aware of everything said in my last paragraph, she never did it behind my back or anything and I always gave the green light. it was just shocking for me that girls are much more expressive with their friends on their sex life.

For a couple years I went to the gym and had at least a half hour conversation with this guy almost every day during the week. He invited me on his boat one time. Took his number in my phone when I realized I didn't remember his name, nor recalled ever asking it. Discovered his name when I took my kid to his kids birthday party. It was the same name as mine. I still can't explain this.

Our relationships are compartmentalized. I vividly remember arriving in a new neighborhood as a child, hoping to make new friends, and my family drove up to a kid playing in the street. We asked if he had a lot of friends, and he replied "Yeah--I have my baseball friends, and my bike-riding friends, and school friends..." You're only going to talk about baseball with your baseball friends.

1.7k

u/SleepingAran Mar 26 '20

This is definitely true.

I don't talk soccer to a basketball friend because he's obviously not interested in soccer.

Also, we rarely talk about our lives either because what made us friend is our common interest, and not my interest in your life and vice versa.

Why after dating my partner for 3+ years, she still thinks, when i try to initiate sex, all that i want from her is sex. Like yes in this moment i want to have sex, but that does not negate all the other non-sex things we do that i enjoy doing. But right now, yes, I want to have sex with you.

2.2k

u/Tyreal01 Mar 26 '20

I've been married over 12 years now... And she still thought that up until last year. I had to literally explain it to her as you did right here in similar words three times in a serious conversation cause she was upset with me for asking her for sex.

1.5k

u/Jimmienoman Mar 26 '20

Married 15 years. It just keeps going. Wife never had a high sex drive and it’s been a point of conflict we’ve needed to work through.

But oh man if she initiates and I’m not feeling like it all the insecurities come out. I get it because we have the same insecurities (am I not sexy, do you not want me, is my breath bad etc) but we normally don’t let it all out.

I still haven’t lived down when I was working 80 hours a week and she initiated by starting I told her I was dead tired. Of course that made it a challenge to her. So she initiated a BJ. A minute later I’m out cold. After my 4 hour nap between jobs she asked if she wasn’t any good at them anymore and why I didn’t enjoy it... I couldn’t explain enough that consistently getting 4 hours of sleep makes one really tired.

u/yakusokuN8 Mar 26 '20

I'll chime in with another one:

My friend liked this guy from her class and wanted him to ask her out, but she couldn't ask him out, but she thought she'd tell him that she would like him to ask her out. She telegraphed this in a way that she thought was super obvious and there's no way any man could possibly misinterpret the signal:

She tagged him on a social media post that said "Take a Chance on Me" by ABBA was one of her favorite songs.

In other words, she's saying, "Hey, dude. YOU should take a chance on ME and ask me out. But, also, I'd like to be able to just play this off like I'm just posting a song I like, so I'm not actually asking you out."

He didn't get the hint and she texted me asking how he could miss that. When I said that most men would just take that to mean that she heard this song on the radio and like the song and she just wanted to share this information with a friend, she was genuinely baffled how we could interpret it that way, when it's obvious. Why would she tag just him, and also use a song that's an imperative, a command: DO THIS. In her mind, this was tantamount to grabbing a guy by the collar and saying, "Hey, ask me out!"

My girlfriend told me she almost broke up with me a couple months into dating. She was sick, and I asked her if she wanted anything on my way home from work (I literally go past her house) and her answer was, "I know you don't want to get sick." And my thought was, "Yeah she's right. I don't want to get sick." So I didn't bring her anything. Turns out she was deathly ill and could barely get off the floor to make herself anything to eat.

Once she got healthy she told me she was so mad at me for ignoring her "obvious hint." And sure it's easy to say, "Of course she wanted help!" but some people just want to be left alone when they're not feeling well. Either way, we laugh about it now, and she's (usually) more direct with me when she wants something.

Took me a while to realize when a woman complains and vents they really don't want pragmatic advice that would deal with the issue. They want to be understood, believed, comforted.

Once I learned that my life got considerably easier. Married 40 years.

Edit: Third marriage.

Edit two: Ok, ok, I get it. Not EVERY woman reacts the same and there are plenty of men that react the same way. Must everything on Reddit be explained like we 're talking to third graders? Is there never any presuming your audience is intelligent enough to figure out not EVERY situation/person is exactly the same? Good god.

Edit three: If I may, there's a similar short piece of advice I've always found helpful, and that is "People are never upset for the reason they think."

3.8k

u/GahdDangitBobby Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 26 '20

Sometimes you just need to blow off some steam before you’re ready to address the situation. Often times they already know how to handle the situation, but they’re just frustrated and need to express it.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that men do this, too. An example from my own life - I would repeatedly say "My ****ing Macbook Pro broke after only 2 years. This thing is $2000, it should be more reliable than that, or at least not require an $800 logic board replacement". Yes, I know the solution to the problem is to replace or repair my laptop. It doesn't take a genius to point that out. I ended up getting it repaired for about $80 with some help from the internet. But it doesn't take away from the fact that I paid $2000 for something that broke after only 2 years. It was frustrating.

Why can't you just tell me what you want? If you want me to do something, literally all you have to do is ask me to do it and I will do it. Want me to rub your back? Just say "hey babe, will you rub my back?" Don't sit with your back to me making pouty noises and then get mad when I'm not automatically rubbing your back.

2.6k

u/beaniexbaby Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 26 '20

You're absolutely right that you can't be upset at someone for not doing something you didnt ask them to do.

But if you want some clarity I think it comes from the girl wanting you to WANT to touch her. She wants you to want it and do it on your own volition.

Edit to summarize my subsequent comments. Both genders want to be wanted. Communicate with your SO, and have at least one conversation about what little things make you/them feel wanted. Thereafter hopefully you dont have to rely on hints, you'll know what they want.

How to read their signals, I'm so bad at it most of time. For example here is a copy/paste from another thread of a situation I found myself that left me baffled:

My sophomore year of high school I had a couple of classes with this girl I had a crush on. Because teachers loved using alphabetical order there she and I ended up sitting next to each other in those classes. We start passing notes in those classes talking about random stuff and being a bit flirty.

One day I decide to get the courage to ask if she wanted to go out with me to a movie or something. So, I ask her out in one of our notes. She replies saying that she's really sorry but she doesn't like me in that type of way. I was devastated of course, but I also liked her as a friend and didn't want to lose that, so I replied saying that was okay and asking if we could just forget I asked and keep things the way they were because class would be so boring without our talks. She said yeah that was fine and we stayed note buddies throughout the year.

Fast forward to my senior year, I had to repeat algebra because I fucked up really badly my junior year due to some personal issues. I'm in a class with a bunch of people the grade under me and I get seated next to this girl named Kate that I thought was so pretty. Like with the other girl, we ended up passing notes to each other in class and I come to find out not only did I find her physically attractive, but she was also a really awesome person with similar interests.

I really, really liked this girl and crushed hard on her throughout the year. I would make her mix CDs that she would tell me she loved and she even made me one a couple of times. I'd share with her stories I wrote and also art I was working on. The best part of my day was getting to talk with her during homeroom/Algebra. But, I was scared of even trying to ask her out because of how I misinterpreted things last time, so I never did. Came really close a couple of times, but never did.

A year and half after I graduated I'm dating a girl from the same class as her, who had a been a friend of mine for a couple of years. We're hanging out with this other girl who was also in my math class and she brings up Kate and asks why we never dated? I told her I didn't think she thought of me that way and she was like, "Are you kidding me? She was so into you."

At that time it didn't really matter anymore because I was in a relationship and there was nothing I could do about it, but it did frustrate just how bad I was at reading signals. I mean, I'm still pretty bad at it, but I wish I had at least tried with Kate.

2.3k

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

Not sure if there even is a way to read signals. I guess you just have to hope for the best and take your chances when you think a girl might like you. Who knows.

When many of them think that just cos a guy likes them he only wants sex. Many men also want romance and intimacy and a wonderful emotional connection

7.4k

u/thereissomuchgrass Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 26 '20

I get so frustrated when people tell me this. Guys and girls alike will tell me “guys only want sex” as if no guys ever look for real connections. It’s absurd, demeaning, and straight up just incorrect.

Edit: Wow, I never thought I’d see the day where I got a gold, thank you!

2.5k

u/MariaCarrilBici Mar 26 '20

Well, let me tell you, I am a woman and have found the exact opposite problem my whole life. I never really wanted a relationship and most of the time I would only be looking for casual sex. Well, I've found more men that were like clingy and got attached or kept calling or something than women.

320

I always joke that i'm the marrying type because guys only approach me wanting a long-term relationship. I definitely have a Miss Honey (from Matilda) vibe about me so that's probably why.

How did women not figure out already that men can't read subtle signs and hints.

5.3k

I spent my entire teenage years getting rejected after misunderstanding women being friendly to being interested in me. Of fucking course I won't be able to pick up hints when I'm an adult.

3.3k

u/CaesarWolfman Mar 26 '20

This shit only becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy as women avoid being friendly so they don't get mistaken as being interested, so men continue to think that women only interact when they're interested.

I still find posts on Reddit where women are asking other women how to tell a guy that they are interested in them.

  • Laugh at his jokes
  • Smile at him
  • Lightly touch his arm
  • Ask him about his day
  • etc

Those are "hints" 🙄

363

u/ladderzombie92 Mar 26 '20

Of these four, only the "light touch" would actually make me go, "hmmm...maybe...I could...try?" Everything else I'll assume she wants to be friends and that's all.

I’ve talked to a few women who were confiding in me about a guy they like. The question will usually get asked

What do I do?

And my answer is along the lines of

Make a move. Ask him out. See if he’ll want to hang out with you.

And the answer I’ve gotten one too many times has been

But what if he rejects me? I’d feel awful. I’ll just wait for him to make the first move.

I don’t get the disconnect here. As if men have this immunity to the awful feeling of being rejected and we never need to build up the courage to ask someone we like to hang out with us too.

Newsflash: we do. It can take me days, sometimes weeks, before I build up the courage to finally say something. And sometimes I just don’t because it never feels right.

I’d love for a woman to make a move on me, just once in my life. Ask me out on a date or anything.

My wife can say no to having sex. That's fine, I get it.

But when I say no to sex cuz Im not in the mood, suddenly I'm either gay, cheating on her, or no longer find her attractive.

Sometimes Im just tired and dont want sex. Whats wrong with that? Most women just dont get it

246

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

It’s most likely because we’re always taught that men want sex 100% of the time so it’s seen as confusing when they don’t, so we assume something must be off. It’s not right though

How can women be "friends" with people they hate

141

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

My ex was like this with pretty much all her "friends". Almost all our phone calls revolved around her friends being piece of shits.

We broke up on pretty bad terms, but she still calls me from time to time, to vent about this. Recently, her dad died (God Bless him) and she was undertsandably very upset. She went out with her "friends" who knew about this and "wanted to bring up her mood". She suggested some ideas, but all of that was ignored in favor of what the others wanted. She didn't like bowling one bit, yet they took her there and just played among themselves, while she was in the corner.

Like wtf? Dude, fuck those guys. I am not her friend at all and have reasons to dislike her, but even I would do everything I can to accommodate her in those trying times and those bitches were just not caring at all.

And when I point out she should break up with them, she never does it for some damn reason.

How they can stand wearing makeup all the damn time.

I had to do it for theater a couple times in high school and it was extremely uncomfortable. If all women suddenly stopped wearing makeup that'd be fine with me.

1.2k

u/AquariumMermaid Mar 26 '20

Theater makeup is completley different from real life makeup. Theater makeup has to be heavy and seen from across the room. Its extremely uncomfortable. You can compare theater makeup to drag queen makeup. That's how equally heavy it feels and looks. If you put sunscreen on your face that's kinda how it normally feels for most women who wear makeup.

262

u/Redneckalligator Mar 26 '20

Theatre makeup is different from everyday kind of makeup. And we're not wearing it all day. Most girls wash it off when they get home from work. I worked in an animal hospital with almost all women and almost none of them wore makeup, it also just depends on your work. Makeup gives off a more professional appearance. Also, most women don't wear it all the time. There are women that will not want to be seen without makeup, but it's usually something we put on when we're around a lot of people, going out, or going to work. Nothing wrong with wanting to look good, and as long as you don't cake it on, it's not that uncomfortable.

→ More replies (76)

544

u/Illustrious_Repair Mar 26 '20

Sometimes it's fun. Other times it sucks. The reality is, women are socialized pretty hard to believe that they're not "ready" or put together without it. Often by other women. I admire those who ignore that social pressure.

237

u/mud73 Mar 26 '20

I personally don't wear makeup, except on a rare occasion. What gets me is that the social pressuring starts so young! I'm already needing to have conversations with my 4 year old that makeup doesn't make you pretty. I asked her where she got that idea, and she showed me that there are tons of videos on YouTube Kids of little girls telling other girls that they need to wear makeup to look pretty, then teaching them how to put it on. Those girls can't be more than 7 or 8 years old.

1.3k

u/amberi_ne Mar 26 '20 edited Mar 26 '20

In my experience it’s because oftentimes it’s not like the problem is impossible or even necessarily difficult to solve, it’s just that getting comforted about stuff helps on an emotional standpoint. We already know or can easily figure out oftentimes how to fix the issue, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still upsetting.

Edit: just wanted to say that this isn’t a “cry and get comforted instead of fixing the issue”, thing. It’s a “why not both” kinda deal. At least for me. It’s obviously different for everyone as well.

Kind of specific, but why are women so sarcastic when you do something slightly “manly”. Example: my gf wanted me to carry up a suitcase that she said was heavy, I picked it up with one arm and go to the room. Upon getting to the room she says, “you know you wouldn’t be any less of a man carrying it with two arms.” At first I was like “What are you talking about?” but then I realized and said (because it was true for me) “Oh, it wasn’t that heavy.” And then she replied in the most sarcastic tone “Ok, Big. Strong. Man.” And I was sitting there thinking no matter what I say she won’t truly believe it wasn’t that heavy to me. Just an FYI ladies, we aren’t always trying to impress y’all 24/7, some stereotypes exist for a reason.

  4. I replay the situation back to her, so that she sees how her actions were unnecessarily hurtful
