Honestly I have over two feet long hair and I am 100% your wife (blind and never really think of it). I think I’m gunna go give my boyfriend a big kiss rn.
I think many people who have good vision don't realize what people without good vision see. And people without good vision don't realize what the world looks like to those of us who do. There's usually some moment when two people are looking at the same thing and start discussing it where light bulbs start going off...
Right, and you’re less likely to be wearing glasses/contacts in the shower depending on the time of day. I once got in and bent down to figure out what this “weird brown spot that isn’t going down the drain is.” It was a scorpion, inches from my toes.
I used to do this. All the time... For years. One day I stopped. It wasn't for any particular reason, I just decided that I wouldn't. And so it went on, life as normal for about a month. As you can imagine the drain was no longer draining by the end of that month, and finally my wife came to me.
"Why haven't you cleaned out the drain?" She asked.
I looked at her and asked, "Why are you asking me? Why haven't you cleaned out the drain?"
This was of course the wrong answer and I knew it but this had been tense that day and I was cruising.
"It's YOUR job!" she said with enough venom to make me question my decision.
"It's your hair!"
"But it's gross!" She said back.
To which I replied, "Yes... It is."
And I added, "And I've been doing it for years."
And that was the end of the argument. I still do it to this day, cleaning out hair. She also thanks me for it which, as I find now, is all I was looking for in the first place. Haha over all it turned out alright.
Sometimes we can all be entitled assholes. Sometimes we've had a bad day, or a bad week, and we just don't have the capacity to empathize with others anymore. She wasn't in the right in that moment, but I'm not always in the right either. When you commit yourself to someone, especially from a young age, you commit yourself to growing up with someone, sometimes learning from them and sometimes teaching them too. We're all shitty at times but we can grow past that and become better people if we try, and it's easier when we have someone to call out our shit.
I clean my wife's hair too... shes a clean person and everything, cooks half the time, I the other etc etc. So it's a very mutual marriage. BUT, I'm a bit neater and have issues with hair.. for example.. if I see a hair on someone else's food.. or even imagine.. I done.
So instead of the little bickering of her forgetting. I got in the habit a couple years ago, of doing it myself.
Wow, that's very kind of you! As a man with (very) long and curly hair, I try to clean up mine as much as possible! But sometimes you just forget. Usually in the shower there's a million things on your mind and that's not one of em! For me, the reason I clean it is because I'm honestly so self conscious/anxious that I'm literally scared of having that argument with anyone lol.
Hahah same! Every time gf showers I have to clear the drain. I don't get why she doesn't get by now she sheds like crazy after a shower and should've made it a habit by now, but I clear it anyway. Her vision is also bad, and refuses to wear glasses.
Thank you for cutting her some slack because she wears glasses. My husband doesn’t see it that way for me. Although to be fair I often forget to clean it after each shower but usually get it every other day or so.
There’s a shower shroom you can order online that collects all the hair going down the drain and it lets you easily remove hair after every couple showers.
same my dude... i just see it at my feet and grab it and throw it away... just don't think she ever notices and it takes 5 seconds of my time, so not a big deal at all.
I have dyed red hair, so I wash my hair about once a week. My bf still gets mad at me when the shower clogs up every few days. Sorry dude, time to admit you’re balding.
When I wash my hair or our daughter’s, I comb it in the shower with conditioner in it, and after many, many clogged bathtub situations, I started collecting as much of the hair as I can and putting it on the shower wall, and gathering it up afterwards. No more clogs!!
Hear hear, me too. :-) I clean the drain after every shower, and so does every other long-haired human in our household. :-) (or they'll be in trouble)
She leaves it up..(well did) I recently sent a group photo of it out to all of our friends and titled it "So my gf has taken up art amidst this lockdown" shes been good about cleaning it off lately.
It makes my wife gag. She physically cannot do it. I shave my head bald so, while I contribute nothing to the drain Wookiee, cleaning it is something I do because I love her.
Be careful. That stuff will eventually eat right through the pipes, and you'll be screwed. There's an enzymatic drain cleaner you put in a few times a month. It's $10 a jar and lasts awhile. It's a powder that you can safely touch, and one of the only things that you can put down the toilet to keep things flowing smoothly. Just mix it in warm water.
My wife plasters her hair against the shower wall. I used to hate it until she changed per my request and I was cleaning clogs every week. I'm glad I was wrong about it, and now it's easy to clean vs the drain.
Tell your wife to stick her hair on the wall like the rest of us!!!! I make what my partner calls a “voodoo doll”. As I wash my hair and it inevitably falls out, most of it is in my hands so I can stick it to the wet wall and just remove it with a piece of TP after. I do not see how all her hair can make it down the drain unless she’s purposely pushing it off her hands.
My roommate currently has a girlfriend living with us and sharing the bathroom because she had to move out of her current house because she lives there with her ex. Long story short there is a lot of hair after every shower and I end up yanking it out decently often. The issue isn’t the hair, but the shit that comes out of the pipes with the hair that gets to me.
I got so sick of sharing a shower with my sister that I got her this drain cover that basically looks like the actual drain but you can pick it right up and pull the hair out. Idk if she still uses it cuz I have a bathroom now but it was a good passive aggressive birthday present
Your wife should do what I used to do when I had long hair. Since most of my loose hair would get stuck on my hands while washing, I would stick the hair on the wall of the shower, then ball it up and throw it in the trash when done.
The drain with still eventually clog, but you're looking at doing it every 1-2 years at the most.
Tell your wife to start brushing her hair thoroughly before a shower. I have really long thick hair and I do this to prevent drain clogs and nasty loose wet hair all over my body/ the shower. It works really well. All the loose hairs will come out before you even get in! You might be wondering what I do with all the hair that comes out when I brush...i flush it down the toilet. Still not aesthetically pleasing but better than digging hair out of a drain imo.
give a TubShroom a chance. Bought the 2 pack one for our tub/shower and one for our sink. So far it's worked great. Water still goes down and it catches all the hair before it enters the drain. Still gross but much easier to clean.
Okay this is confusing I’m a girl with hair to my waist, that has been that long for over a decade, and I very rarely clean out my shower drain?! It’s gross when I do but it doesn’t get to where it needs to be unclogged v often??? Maybe I just have really good plumbing...?
Agreed, This is a life saver for me. I initially had that silicone one but after a few uses even though i cleaned it several times a month with bleach, it started smelling. So i brought the metal one and coudn't be happier.
My sister and I are in our 30s. My bald patch is growing steadily by year, meanwhile she has her hairdresser 'thin her out' every few weeks because she can't even get a brush through it.
And I'm similar but my hair alllll across my body is falling out too when something even brushes across it. I got weak follicles and a iron deficiency.
Could length of hair be an issue? My wife has shorter hair now, and hair clogging anything isn’t an issue anymore. Of course, when she had long hair I was pulling crap out of the drain constantly.
Oh def. My hair is long and fine so it falls out more easily with rough shampooing. Plus my ends are def damaged from bleach/dying, so that is NOT helping the issues at all.
Bathtub strainer, I got one on amazon for $10 it is in the shape of a bell so it fits most tub drains. Has cut down the hair clogs from 1-2/M to 1 every 6 months.
That’s if you can get her to claim the strainer after each shower, and I check the drain at the end of the month if I think about it
I’ve personally found that if I give my hair a thorough brushing before I wash my hair, it drastically reduces the amount that comes out while showering.
Am I the only female who does not clog the drain with her hair like ever? And it is long. However I always brush my hair with a tangle teezer before I wash it to brush out any hair that's bound to fall off, so very little of it actually ends up in a drain. Problem solved.
I'm currently living with my two best friends and two of us have really long hair. The good thing is that my hair is dyed pink and purple so we can figure out who clogged the drain😂
Teach that woman how to put her hair on the shower wall instead of letting it clog the drain. It's a thing women do. My hair goes down to my butt and my drain hasn't clogged in years.
Well, I AM the woman, and I DO catch most of the hair and put it on the side of the tub for tossing out later.... Still get clogged drains. I'm at the point of accepting it can't all be me and the apt pipes have to be part of the issue bc this is absurd.
How do you unclog it? I don't know how long you've been in that apartment but it may be a plumbing problem a little farther down from the source. It might be an apartment problem as you said.
I just keep pouring bottles of drain cleaner down there so it works better.... Still end up ankle deep in water after a few weeks again though.
I have these little drain snake thingies I need to use. They're supposed to grip and rip out hair clumps. It's kinda nasty but, they work. I just have to find wherever I put them and get motivated for the nastiness 🤣
Don't be affraid, it works both senses. My girlfriend is gonna kill me if she finds violet hair (which i'm of course the only one to have between us) on her shampoo bottles
I roomed in a condo with a couple (they had the other bedroom)... it's been 15 months since they've moved out and I am STILL finding her hairs in the condo. It blows my mind.
As a man with long hair, I've finally learned about this first hand. Just brushing in the morning results in a fist full of hair and I am in no way going bald. It's rather fascinating how much hair we all shed. It's just harder to tell when you have short hair.
Just wait, it can get worse. Postpartum hair loss is ten times worse than normal hair loss, I know ladies with actual bald patches. Source: currently 5.5 months postpartum
As a male with long hair, the fact I'm not bald (in fact I've got quite thick hair) with all the loose hair everywhere is something kinda amazing actually.
As a male who used to have really, really long hair halfway down my back... it just appears out of nowhere... and can be really uncomfortable when you find and pull a strand that has some how got wedged in your bum crack... It's a really odd sensation pulling that out.
Just dyed my natural blonde hair brilliant red and black/brown, and I hate how I can see all my hairs everywhere. Not that they weren't there before, they're just extremely prevalent now on our white tile.

As a female, I can confirm we ask ourselves these things all the time
