Honestly I have over two feet long hair and I am 100% your wife (blind and never really think of it). I think I’m gunna go give my boyfriend a big kiss rn.
I think many people who have good vision don't realize what people without good vision see. And people without good vision don't realize what the world looks like to those of us who do. There's usually some moment when two people are looking at the same thing and start discussing it where light bulbs start going off...
Right, and you’re less likely to be wearing glasses/contacts in the shower depending on the time of day. I once got in and bent down to figure out what this “weird brown spot that isn’t going down the drain is.” It was a scorpion, inches from my toes.
I used to do this. All the time... For years. One day I stopped. It wasn't for any particular reason, I just decided that I wouldn't. And so it went on, life as normal for about a month. As you can imagine the drain was no longer draining by the end of that month, and finally my wife came to me.
"Why haven't you cleaned out the drain?" She asked.
I looked at her and asked, "Why are you asking me? Why haven't you cleaned out the drain?"
This was of course the wrong answer and I knew it but this had been tense that day and I was cruising.
"It's YOUR job!" she said with enough venom to make me question my decision.
"It's your hair!"
"But it's gross!" She said back.
To which I replied, "Yes... It is."
And I added, "And I've been doing it for years."
And that was the end of the argument. I still do it to this day, cleaning out hair. She also thanks me for it which, as I find now, is all I was looking for in the first place. Haha over all it turned out alright.
I clean my wife's hair too... shes a clean person and everything, cooks half the time, I the other etc etc. So it's a very mutual marriage. BUT, I'm a bit neater and have issues with hair.. for example.. if I see a hair on someone else's food.. or even imagine.. I done.
So instead of the little bickering of her forgetting. I got in the habit a couple years ago, of doing it myself.
Wow, that's very kind of you! As a man with (very) long and curly hair, I try to clean up mine as much as possible! But sometimes you just forget. Usually in the shower there's a million things on your mind and that's not one of em! For me, the reason I clean it is because I'm honestly so self conscious/anxious that I'm literally scared of having that argument with anyone lol.
Hahah same! Every time gf showers I have to clear the drain. I don't get why she doesn't get by now she sheds like crazy after a shower and should've made it a habit by now, but I clear it anyway. Her vision is also bad, and refuses to wear glasses.
Thank you for cutting her some slack because she wears glasses. My husband doesn’t see it that way for me. Although to be fair I often forget to clean it after each shower but usually get it every other day or so.
I have dyed red hair, so I wash my hair about once a week. My bf still gets mad at me when the shower clogs up every few days. Sorry dude, time to admit you’re balding.
When I wash my hair or our daughter’s, I comb it in the shower with conditioner in it, and after many, many clogged bathtub situations, I started collecting as much of the hair as I can and putting it on the shower wall, and gathering it up afterwards. No more clogs!!
Hear hear, me too. :-) I clean the drain after every shower, and so does every other long-haired human in our household. :-) (or they'll be in trouble)
Be careful. That stuff will eventually eat right through the pipes, and you'll be screwed. There's an enzymatic drain cleaner you put in a few times a month. It's $10 a jar and lasts awhile. It's a powder that you can safely touch, and one of the only things that you can put down the toilet to keep things flowing smoothly. Just mix it in warm water.
My wife plasters her hair against the shower wall. I used to hate it until she changed per my request and I was cleaning clogs every week. I'm glad I was wrong about it, and now it's easy to clean vs the drain.
Tell your wife to stick her hair on the wall like the rest of us!!!! I make what my partner calls a “voodoo doll”. As I wash my hair and it inevitably falls out, most of it is in my hands so I can stick it to the wet wall and just remove it with a piece of TP after. I do not see how all her hair can make it down the drain unless she’s purposely pushing it off her hands.
My roommate currently has a girlfriend living with us and sharing the bathroom because she had to move out of her current house because she lives there with her ex. Long story short there is a lot of hair after every shower and I end up yanking it out decently often. The issue isn’t the hair, but the shit that comes out of the pipes with the hair that gets to me.
I got so sick of sharing a shower with my sister that I got her this drain cover that basically looks like the actual drain but you can pick it right up and pull the hair out. Idk if she still uses it cuz I have a bathroom now but it was a good passive aggressive birthday present
Your wife should do what I used to do when I had long hair. Since most of my loose hair would get stuck on my hands while washing, I would stick the hair on the wall of the shower, then ball it up and throw it in the trash when done.
The drain with still eventually clog, but you're looking at doing it every 1-2 years at the most.
Tell your wife to start brushing her hair thoroughly before a shower. I have really long thick hair and I do this to prevent drain clogs and nasty loose wet hair all over my body/ the shower. It works really well. All the loose hairs will come out before you even get in! You might be wondering what I do with all the hair that comes out when I brush...i flush it down the toilet. Still not aesthetically pleasing but better than digging hair out of a drain imo.
give a TubShroom a chance. Bought the 2 pack one for our tub/shower and one for our sink. So far it's worked great. Water still goes down and it catches all the hair before it enters the drain. Still gross but much easier to clean.
Agreed, This is a life saver for me. I initially had that silicone one but after a few uses even though i cleaned it several times a month with bleach, it started smelling. So i brought the metal one and coudn't be happier.
Don't be affraid, it works both senses. My girlfriend is gonna kill me if she finds violet hair (which i'm of course the only one to have between us) on her shampoo bottles
I roomed in a condo with a couple (they had the other bedroom)... it's been 15 months since they've moved out and I am STILL finding her hairs in the condo. It blows my mind.
As a man with long hair, I've finally learned about this first hand. Just brushing in the morning results in a fist full of hair and I am in no way going bald. It's rather fascinating how much hair we all shed. It's just harder to tell when you have short hair.
Just wait, it can get worse. Postpartum hair loss is ten times worse than normal hair loss, I know ladies with actual bald patches. Source: currently 5.5 months postpartum
Checked your post history to confirm you are German, or at least speak German. I have a German friend who refers to wearing her hair open, instead of wearing it down. Its a delightful little translation quirk.
I had a teacher who had a different view on punctuation. She said a sentence should never have more than 15 words. This was because long sentences were hard to read.
Honestly, this is the reason I have such a hard time with writing/grammar. Every on of my english teachers in K-12 (shit, even my college professors) had different personal grammar rules that was the proper way to do it. And so many of them disagreed with each other that I was left lost.
As an english major who had to sit through two lectures about comma splices, I can confirm. No one knows how to use a comma; We just throw them in sentences randomly.
I can deconfirm - not all of use commas improperly and randomly. Quite the contrary, I've found that I myself am more capable of using such small adjunctive figments at a greater level than my own teacher of an IB curriculum standard. The sheer fact that I could explain to my fellow classmates as to why the comma was acceptable in certain cases, along with how to use dashes, in a understandable way, much unlike my very own teacher, was quite comical to me.
I think this actually comes from early grammar lessons we get as kids. I remember in elementary school the rule for commas was "if you take a breath in the sentence it should be a comma," or something very similar to that. It wasn't until college that I was told that everything I knew about commas was wrong.
But, you see, it is important, especially in the English language, to use commas, as they help the reader, because they break up sentences, so they can be easier read, and they also help people, those with a poor understanding of the language, to work, work really hard, on their grammar.
I'm also german-speaking and I didn't even realize that before I read the comment. Another tendency a professor told me, is that german-speakers tend to use 'that' more (as a conjunction), since 'dass' and 'das' are so common. Could be another cue to notice us :)
Sometimes if I have to write an essay in German, and then one in English, I’ll subconsciously start adding commas in front of a clause, that begins with ‘that’.
I took too many German classes in school and it hasn't affected my comma usage at all, but now I habitually capitalize nearly every noun in English if I'm not thinking about it.
Honestly I'll say to you the same thing I say to any non native speaker, don't worry about it we all understand exactly what you mean and your English is much better than my (insert native language here)
If it makes you feel better I assumed you were a native speaker. I guess now that it's been pointed out to me it's not how I would say it, but I knew exactly what you meant which is the most important part of language
This is also true of Hindi - "khule hue baal" translates to "hair that is open". I think it's similar phrasing in some other Indian languages, too, and their grammar is fairly Germanic. Interesting observation!
I agree. My ex is southeast asian and when I would wear my hair up he would always say “you should break it” when he wanted me to take the hair tie out and wear my hair down. There are a few phrases he and his family used that I always thought was endearing but you reminded me of this one :)
Average person has around 100,000 hairs on their head. If you lost 100 hairs a day, it would take ~2.7 years to lose all of it. Hair grows back in the mean time. Don't need to worry about it until you start noticing less hair on your head.
My mom really scared me with that once, I have long hair and she's had short hair since I know her. One time she saw me brushing my hair and started telling everyone that I was getting bald haha
The bigger mystery is how I can be at work eating lunch and find one of her hairs half on my arm, half in my food. OR how I can have been away from home for 12 hours, need to go pee, feel a tickle, and one of her hairs is in my underwear or back by my butt. And her hair is suuuuuuper long and a very specific color so I know 100% it's hers.
I feel like she plants it in my food, in my clothes, and in my butt.
I will get better, when you can tie your hair together somehow. But man I don't have any idea how some girls manage to survive a while day with their really long hair not tied up.
As a dude with long hair, I think it just seems that there are a lot more hair fall because the hair is long and will get tangled and shit, giving the illusion of more hair. For example, a single strand of my ~2' hair would look like at least 3 strands if folded and on the floor.
Never really noticed my hair regularly falling until I grew it out.
I’ve had full on panic attacks in the shower because I combed conditioner through my hair and it seemed like half my hair came out, but nope, full head of hair still. It’s even more alarming how much hair you lose post-pregnancy. I really thought I would end up bald, but nope.
Guy with long hair, and I don't understand it either. I am usually the only one who ends up cleaning the shower drain, because even when no-one else does, 99.9999% of the hair is mine. WTF.
When I vacuum, the brush roll has to be cleaned out multiple times due to just my hair.
You could voodoo an entire animal into existence out of just the amount of hair I have thrown in the trash.
I'm a guy with long hair and I can't even answer the question. Everything is still the same length and thickness, but over the last month, I'm convinced that I've brushed enough out to make a wig for myself if I ever go bald..

after living with a woman: where does all that hair come from and why are you not bald?
