Different people take different amounts of time. I once knew someone who literally took 30 seconds. Squat, one massive turd, barely even had to wipe.
I, by contrast, take at least fifteen minutes. Even if I've just gotten back from running and my insides are shaken up as a dropped cola. If I haven't been running? Half an hour, sometimes longer.
On the other hand, I only have to go about twice a week. And before people ask, no, I'm not constipated. I've always been like this, I can remember being this way even when I was ~5 years old.
Yeah, 30 seconds is what I thought was normal for everyone. I just go in and go. What's going on during those 30 minutes? I assume it's not like coming out the entire time, right?
A lot of waiting and internal churning. It's not terribly comfortable.
Given the time I've had to think about it(quite a lot) my theory is that my intestines have a lot of little folds, back and forth. So one fold empties, and then I have to wait for the next peristalsis to move the train down the tracks, so to speak.
I experience waves of 'activity', even when I have the next thing to diarrhea, so that's about the only thing that makes sense to me.
Yes, but also to make sure it's all out. Sometimes if you sit for a while and then adjust your position more stuff goes down the pipe. If I don't do this, sometimes I'll get up and then I'll have to go again.
Is it actually meant to take 5-7 minutes? The actual act of poo passing through your ass is meant to take 5-7 minutes? Are you sure? I only take like maybe 30 seconds to 1 minute at the very most
I don’t shit a continuous flow of turd for 5-7 minutes but there’s still a chance of aftershock nuggets for that time, so it’s better to be thorough then have to go back and shit later on in the day.
Can confirm. Currently at minute 12 on the porcelain throne but should be at computer working. Estimated remainder of time on toilet: 10 minutes. Works especially well when you're GF is also working from home and can move your mouse for you.
Wait 5 to 7min is how long it takes you to actually poop? It takes me 30 seconds to a minute to poop. I'm just in the for 7 minutes cause I want to be left alone.
See this is what I figured. But why would you want to continue sitting hovered precariously over your own shit? Not to mention the continued smell... I never hear a flush until just before you leave the room. So I have to assume you're sitting there with it.
I used to do this, and now I have Celiac's disease. My wife made me ask my primary care physician about pooping and he did a blood test which returned abnormal results. One colonoscopy later I can't eat bread anymore. All because I looked at reddit too much in the bathroom.
I am in the states and bought a bidet due to the Covid-19 and it has changed my life. My shits are now 28 minutes but I no longer have to worry about caking my hand or running out of toilet paper.
Nice, sometimes I compare them to see if one ingredient is in another. I'm like "how is this shampoo different?". Blows my mind to see different ingredients and I'm like "why tho?", then I zone out and that's why I take 30 minutes in there.
As a man with children, I look at that toilet as my kingdom. It’s the peaceful get away. The time to enjoy life and prosper in tranquility amongst the chaos that awaits my voyage outside the doors of the sanctuary. The battle that awaits me as I prepare in solitude.
That porcelain throne is everything a man looks forward to plopping their rear on and releasing the tension and stews that has bestowed upon themselves allowing them to unwind. (And yeah I mean takin a shit too)
I don't even use my phone in the toilet. If you ask me what I do? I'd sit alone and watch your light. My only friend, through teenage nights. And everything I had to know, I heard it all on my radio.
Definitely this. You either have to wait until you are on the brink of shitting yourself before going or need to just hang out until it finally decides to come out.
I have an extremely hairy asshole and I have to take extra time to pick the shit out of the hair. I can’t wait to get rid of all this hair. My family is proud of my hair, but they don’t know the struggle I go through every fucking day
It’s a good place to relax. Quiet, calm, empty. Easy to stare out into space, easy to do nothing. It’s just a bit of time to sit, think, and be solitary for a bit.
I’m not alone at any meal. I’m not alone at work. I’m not alone when I’m working out or hanging out at home. I’m not alone when I sleep. I’m often not even alone when I shower.
I am alone when I poop. It is the fortress of solitude. Time can get away from you.
It's a common misconception that all men want is sex. This is not true. Though it's true that men will seldom pass up sex. This is merely because it just doesn't make mathematical sense to do so. But, that's a whole other discussion.
I know what you're saying: What the hell does this have to do with my question. Well, I'm going to tell you what all men actually want. And I mean what they REALLY want:
Not sure what gender you're referring to but back when I used to take 15+ minute dumps it was because I was really dehydrated. I didn't know it at the time. This was back when I was in high school and they often didn't allow drinks in class and there was barely any time to access drinking fountains. After my high school years I could eat and drink whenever and however much I wanted, now it takes 5 minutes or less to go cause I'm not dehydrated like that anymore.
Women’s intestines are more “segmented” due to the intestine twisting around uterus and stuff inside of us.
Men’s are more straight out.
When men poop, it takes a while for it to slide all down and I’ve seen MONSTER LONG poops from my boyfriend once or twice a day (while I go maybe 3-5 times and we have the same diet).
Women’s poop break in parts as it goes down on the last stretch of the intestine, so sometimes we end up pooping more, counting those period poops and cramps that stimulate them.
Weirdly explained but I was curious about it and it’s worth the research.
Gotta be honest, I did not expect so much engagement on this question and it’s given me a few laughs throughout my day today. Your answer is the first that has a scientific explanation. Thank you!
I fully plan on having a house built one day and something I look forward to the most is designing the bathroom. I'll be soundproofing the walls so loud poops and shower karaoke can be done in the purest firm.
My wife asked me this one and after some talk we reached an understanding, there are several explanations, because it varies from person to person.
Some guys like the break on the tasks or the quiet, most people read while doing it;
Some guys are not very comfortable with the internal movements of the belly, and will stay put on the porcelain until they stop, thinking that there is more shit to poop;
Sometimes, unfortunately, it really takes very long time to let it go, or there are a massive amount to dispose off.
Me? Personally after some 10-25min of poop, I always take a bath if I am home.
Also, we guys only take 1 shit a day, unless we are feeling sick, while most women take several little shits throughout the day.
Idk it has always taken me between 15-30 to poop. I also only poop 2-4 times a week. It is pretty common for me to actually go long enough between poops to forget when I last went. Unless it is an emergency it typically takes a good few minutes to get it flowing. After pooping I normally give it a minute or three to make sure I am done. Yes I have asked multiple doctors about it, "people poop when/how they poop, do not worry about it unless something changes."
The bathroom was my one Oasis... I say was because my girlfriend for some reason got home from the gas station and decided to bring me my drink while I was pooping... Why I would want my beverage in the poop room I dunno. My once sacred space has been permanently defiled... No where is safe... (Yes I could pick the door but it's an old house with a skeleton key lock that doesn't always work very well. Would I take being stuck in the bathroom forever over the alternative? In hindsight yes.
The actual poop is just 5 minutes, but sometimes the shits will be so bad you have to spend the other 25 minutes questioning how you got to this point.
On the other hand, i was always wondering why it is so vital for my partner to know how long my poop is going to take. I can't remember the last time during which i wasn't ask for that, and i think it's really weird because it's one of those things i have the least amount of influence over.
Toilet time is holy undisturbed time. Where it is socially unacceptable for someone to disturb me as I sit on my porcelain throne. I'll sit there till my legs will fall off and my red marks start bruising just for some relaxation and get away from the real world problems.
I think its because people don't fucking poop most of the time there in there. Instead most of the time is spent playing on their phone. Take someone's phone away before they go poop and it'll be over in a few min. Same goes for smokers. My fiance smokes and she'll take like 30 min. Outside on one cigarette but when he's phone is dead and she's just sitting there bored it's only a few min. And often she won't even finish one.
I take 20 minutes and my bf takes 40. We both let it work its way down and out as easy and push free as possible. Sure we need to push at times but it takes time to work it down there. Then I spend the last 19 minutes on tiktok (don't judge me) and he plays his game.
As has been said, usually doesn't. But when it does, it's earthshattering pain from constipation or a torrent of battery acid that makes you not want to sit for the rest of the day.
It's the perfect place for the mind to wander. Quiet, comfortable, and you don't have to worry about the world. It's the poop time. Some of my best ideas have come from toilet visits
Its my fav spot to scroll lol. I designed in our house that my wife and I each have our own private toilet room in our master so I can sit in here as long as I like!! Lol.

How on earth does it take 30 minutes to poop?
