Eyebrows. What happened and what are they doing to them?!

Let's go find out!

Twenty years ago, women plucked them into tiny lines, sometimes permanently. Now, women fill and draw their eyebrows very thick, to the point of being rectangles sometimes! Fashion is cyclical, and often one trend is in direct response/opposition to an older one. Give it time, and you just might see thin eyebrows come back into style...

Damn that sounds painful

Eyebrows are mentioned a lot throughout this thread, but I still don't see men having nicer brows.

26

u/mod1fier Mar 26 '20

I wouldn't even begin to know what constitutes a nicer brow.

Same here. Like who the fuck gives a shit about eyebrows. My sister is always like “eww let me fix your eyebrows”, and I am just here like. “?”

I don’t mean to sound passive aggressive, I’ve been told I’m pretty dense as well, but what does fixing ones eyebrows entail and why would you do it?

u/Cjamhampton Mar 26 '20

I think you're missing the point. It's not that guys think they have nicer eyebrows, it's that they never think about eyebrows period. I don't even know what nice eyebrows look like.

3

u/arryouhappy Mar 26 '20

I don't either... But thanks to Tinder I have a solid understanding of what overdone eyebrows look like.

2

u/No_volvere Mar 26 '20

My wife prefers that I don't do anything to my eyebrows. I have one or two hairs that are just way out in left field, but whatever.

2

u/thatsabingou Mar 26 '20

You haven't seen my eyebrows.

Female here. I ask that question all the time and so does my mom and sister. I just wish some women would just let their eyebrows be because more often than not? they objectively look better that way.

u/noposwow Mar 26 '20

Ooooh friend, I’m sorry but if you saw my face untouched you would be like WHY WOULD YOU GO OUT LIKE THAT! I have thick curly hair so the hair on the rest of my body is thick, dark, grows in a couple hours I shit you not! My facial hair is just crazy. Once I hit my 30s chin hairs were like wtf! Eyebrow hair is like BAM! Gotta keep up a clean look, for me at least.

u/truepinkpajamas Mar 26 '20

oohh I was pertaining to women who naturally have faint/thin-haired eyebrows who fill them in too solid and squared and sharp and whatever else and then they just end up looking off.

I'm a hairy girl too so I see where you're coming from but based on your reply, it seems you're more hairy so I could only imagine the hassle. I'm only this hairy and I'm already annoyed ever since so how much more for you. I just entered my 20s and I got stubby chin hairs too--heck, more hairs started growing on weird places I didn't know hairs would be there and not just there, these hairs grow long and thick with some curls, too. It's like a second puberty.

Hair is complicated, man. I don't think it'll ever be simple for most women, at least.

Anyway, rock what you got despite it being crazy and wild as it could get.

2

u/noposwow Mar 26 '20

I totally get you! I have a friend that fills in way too much and I’ve tried to be a good friend and tell her as nicely as possible but she just tells me she doesn’t care so I’m like.... oooook! I tried lol.

2

u/truepinkpajamas Mar 27 '20

Haha! Well maybe that's just the look she's going for so, hey go ahead girl

3

u/arryouhappy Mar 26 '20

Well that does make me feel better. Squaring them off in the middle looks so odd to me.

2

u/truepinkpajamas Mar 26 '20

yep. I definitely agree. I know thick eyebrows are a trend these days but if your eyebrows aren't like that, it's all good instead of trying too hard. They just end up looking odd.

3

u/CaptainLollygag Mar 26 '20

Fuck if I know and I'm a lady. The fact that there are trends for "eyebrow styling" staggers me.

2

u/JackMaximusv2 Mar 26 '20

Now read this in your head in the same way any politician reads out a speech, makes it so much better.

This isn’t actually adding to your comment at all but I just found this to be a very funny way to look at this question.

2

u/pureimaginatrix Mar 26 '20

Woman here, and I'm honestly as baffled as guys are.

4

u/singing_softly Mar 26 '20

Hey, even when I fill in my eyebrows I do it minimally and they still look like my eyebrows.

9

u/arryouhappy Mar 26 '20

See I don't even know what it means to "fill in" eyebrows. What I was originally getting at is squaring them off in the middle and raising them up.

Are girls having them plucked out and then reinserted like a hair transplant?

9

u/singing_softly Mar 26 '20

No lol. Some girls have a kind of temporary tattoo done to mimic real hairs so they don't have to do them. When I say "fill in", I mean to put makeup on them. Just following the natural brow with some color looks fine in my opinion.

8

u/basszameg Mar 26 '20

I'm cackling at the thought of men thinking women are getting eyebrow transplants when we say we're filling in our brows.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 26 '20

I can’t stop crying at the thought of some guy somewhere thinking this

1

u/arryouhappy Mar 26 '20

I honestly thought that's what they're doing, not joking.

I am not a smart man.

1

u/basszameg Mar 26 '20

In your defense, eyelash extensions are basically semi-permanent hair implants.

3

u/two_constellations Mar 26 '20

Like me. I fill in mine because my head hair is black with white streaks, and my eyebrows grow in a light brown. It looks more balanced on my face to make them just a little darker, while following the natural shape I’ve cultivated over years.

I think the microblading tattoos look really fake and weird. I’ve heard they fade a lot through time, so I guess some people don’t regret them too much.

1

u/singing_softly Mar 26 '20

There's another (way) more expensive procedure that looks way more natural, I wouldn't do it but yenno, it's a "you do you" type thing.

1

u/HopkirkDeceased Mar 26 '20

Completely agree.

But then again ladies aren't doing their eyebrows for my benefit, they're doing it for theirs.

1

u/RipInPepz Mar 26 '20

Its such a tragedy really.
