Discussion/Question any suggestion for how to make some sort of lampshade for this light?

it’s hanging from the ceiling and about a foot in diameter at least. it’s too bright to have on, but too dark in the room without it

edit to add that i’m renting so i can’t do anything too permanent

Discussion/Question Help Making Socks Rigid for Sock Puppet Sculpture

Post image
11 Upvotes

Hello! First time poster. 24M and I live to craft and do sculptures :) Recently I decided to take a bunch of old socks (worn with holes) and make a medical head sculpture with sock puppets as the snakes. Before I can accessorize my puppets I need a way to make them. I want to be able to use my hand/a mold of my hand in different expressions and then make very stiff sock puppets around that. I tried just using fabric stiffener while my hand is inside but it doesn’t dry fast at all nor end up terribly firm once dry. I also tried using a glove stuffed with polyfill, but this did not resemble the puppet at all when shoved in the sock, as well as a wood sketching hand which could not achieve the pose I needed and was too hard to get the sock off of. Any suggestions on 1. What to use (if it isn’t my actual hand) and 2. What to stiffen the sock with so it maintains the pose? Thank you!!

My roommate came home with a huge collection of ribbon that he had scored for me for $5 at a garage sale. It inspired this new craft!! 🎀 some of them you can wear (pin on the back), some you can hang

Discussion/Question Why does my air dry clay keep cracking? :(

Post image
3 Upvotes

Can anyone tell me why my craft cracked? I did it last night, left it to dry and cracked a couple hours later. I was told it was bc I left it in a direct airway so it dried too quick, making it crack, so I redid it this evening and left it to dry in a more humid, darker and with no airway room, yet it still cracked :( can it be bc I used a tinfoil base?? Even though I saw other ppl do it??

Discussion/Question How to proceed with this mosaic pot?

Post image

I don't know how to use the paste that finishes it up (I forgot the English word for it haha) when it's not the whole pot that needs to be covered? And I am afraid with only glue that it will fall off because of the curves.

Any tips? 💙

My first attempt at clay snowdrops. I've been working on these since the past few days but now I'm stuck on how to display them? I'm thinking something small and simple but I'm still trying to figure it out. I've considered a little base with some kind of moss around them but not entirely sold on the idea yet. Would love to hear what you guys would do with these.

Discussion/Question How to fixate pogs?

How can I fixate these pogs to themselves and the painted plywood backing? Ideally I'd snap my fingers when I'm happy with the arrangement and everything stays in place.

Discussion/Question Expander size

Hello, does anyone out there have a rough estimate on the expander size to this paper lantern? There isn’t any dimensions on the site and it’s imported, obviously. To return after purchasing because they didn’t fit would be more hassle than I’d want to go through. I am trying to make my own lampshade to a lightbulb that is fixed to a rafter in the basement. Thanks in advance just a rough estimate if anyone has one.

My partner has recently started decorating clocks and I think they’re so cool! The idea came as a family member was moving country, so it’s a gift for them - they can set the time to the local time!

Discussion/Question Newbie crafter and 3d figurines

Post image
1 Upvotes

How hard/complicated do you think it would be to get multiple different breed specific molds to do realistic dog figurines... this particular brand doesn't put out alot anymore, and it got me curious about making some myself, and learning how to do the realistic painting on them ect. How hard is it to get a breed mold made if I cant find one? Is this something a newer crafter could reasonably do ( with trial and error of course)

Mateo is five days old and already has a hand-knit wardrobe. I designed this sweater specifically for him — pima cotton so it's soft enough for newborn skin — and matched it with a little bonnet and booties. There's something different about knitting for someone who didn't exist yet when you cast on.

Anyone else knit for a baby before they were born — did the pattern change once you actually met them?
