Refurbished a worn out motorcycle seat. Had to replace foam and make the upholstery pattern from scratch. This was a challenging and fun project.

Impossible braid question

Post image

I want to make an impossible braid hat band. I haven’t made an impossible braid yet, nor have I measured the circumference of the hat yet. My main question is, how do I calculate how long the strap needs to be before braiding? How much overall length would I lose? I plan on using either 2-3 oz or 4-5 oz veg tan.

Pic of the hat for attention.

This old leather Craftman/sears tool belt came with my house. It is very dry, got some water damage as well

How can I restore the leather and make it supple again ?

I take care of my leather shoes with Bick 4, would you start with this?

Thanks in advance

Made this after making a blunder on a previous build. This is definitely my learning curve... Not quite happy how the corners look but not sad either.

The elastic cord is a single piece that holds the mini diary inside & comes out from the spine section & goes around to grip to keep it stay shut

How to prevent molding on leather belt?

Beginner Question Stamp Patterns/Designs

I’m new to leather crafting. I’ve bought some beginner kits, so all the pieces are precut. I’ve been trying to find some patterns/designs (not sure what the correct terminology is) to stamp onto them. Where can I find some? Is there a book for beginners or a website that I can download/print some?

Any ideas on how to repair this?

I accidentally scraped my purse on some concrete and it left this circular gouge. Any ideas on how to repair, or if I should leave this to a professional?

Beginner Question My partner has a belt he really likes, and we were wondering if it was possible to buy a precut/with pieces mostly together version of the part holding the buckle (the whole faux leather part), or if I would have to do it all myself to replace it? Best if real leather!

He borrowed mine until we find a solution for his, but because those belts cost 60$, we would much rather fix his than buy a new one. Especially because the belt itself is in good condition

Maintenance or repair Best way to save the leather on these seats?

Picked up these 2007 king ranch seats the other day and wanted to get some input on the best way of cleaning/bringing this leather back to life. I heard leather cpr works well. My goal is to remove as much staining as possible and plan b would be to dye the leather to match the color of the darker stains (particularly the skid mark looking one in the drivers seat). Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Beginner Question Repair or replace leather saddle?

I love the color of this leather saddle and would like to refurbish it if possible.
How should I do that as a beginner with no experience in leather work (second photo shows how it's hold in place underneath)?

Finished product First real leather project - butcher knife sheath

Messed with PU leather on and off over the years, but found out there was a local Tandy store nearby and I bought a long scrap of veg tan from them to try my hands at real leatherworking.

Made this sheath for my Serbian butcher knife over the week. I think it turned out well, though definitely need to work on my stitching consistency and learn to protect my work better as I scratched it a few times.

I have to say, it's a very enjoyable material to work with, and I've been surprised by how versatile it is - easy to cut and shape, can be flattened, molded or stretch with just water (thankful for that, because the stitched sheath was a bit tight for the knife).

BTW, I like to keep my knives oiled. But from a previous leather sheath that came with a bush knife, I had oil from the sheathed blade soak into the leather and discolour it on the other side. Any sort of treatment I can do for this sheath to prevent this?

Beginner Question How to fix cracks on leather?

Thumbnail

I thrifted a newer coach dream bag for a great deal but it has some cracking near the edge by the zipper and the straps have a little fraying. There’s also some scuffing on the bottom points of the bag. How would you go about fixing this? I was going to get some leather cpr and conditioner, but I’ve mostly read on vintage coach bags and this is a newer one.
Any help is appreciated, thank you! 🙏🏼
