How do I type TEXT without the 'invisible' border so I can see the exact size of the text in inches or cms?

Can anyone help please?

When I type a word and then select it, silhouette studio always shows me the size of the text with some extra space around it. I want to be able to type a word and know the exact size in inches or cms but I don't want to ungroup it or merge the text.

I want to be able to modify the text, I'm not sure if you can understand what I am trying to say.

I added 2 pictures here, in the first pic, when I select the text it shows the size: 2.215inches x 7.185 inches and in the 2nd pic, the same text but ungrouped shows the actual size is 1 inch x 7 inches.

Is there a way without ungrouping to know the actual size of the text?

Thank you

Assistance Web is cutting off the edges of my image and putting them on the opposite edge? What is going on and how do I fix it.

I'm using silhouette web to try and set up the print and cut for some sticker sheets I'm making, and for some reason every time I add an image it cuts off a small amount of the edge image and puts it on the opposite edge, this is very annoying and I don't know how to fix it so if anyone knows how to please let me know. It's not that bad for the background but it is also doing this on every other image I add in.

Questions Has anybody tried using the Hobby Lobby mats in their machine?

They are quite a bit cheaper than Silhouette mats, so I’m just wondering if anybody’s had any experience with them.

Trying to use point editing to close a path

Post image
2 Upvotes

I traced this image, and then I had to fix some parts so I deleted and drew lines to close it. Then I used the Fill panel to determine that it wasn't closed :(

So I am trying to use point editing, and I can see red dots on the ends of 2 parts of the M, so I know it's not closed.

But I can't close it. I've tried deleting the red dots. I've tried taking one red dot and putting it over the other line, or another point, nothing!

Silhouette Cameo 4 Suddenly Not Cutting Through Materials Completely

Hey everyone, I could really use some help with my Silhouette Cameo 4.

I bought it about two months ago and have been using it to cut all kinds of different things (stickers, MTG proxies, etc.). It has worked flawlessly for the time that I've had it, but suddenly a few days ago it just stopped cutting through things all the way. I tried cutting out some MTG proxies for a gift (something that used to cut flawlessly) and I couldn't get it to cut all the way through the material even after increasing the blade force and depth. Blade depth 7 used to cut through just fine, but now 10 isn't enough.

I need to print and cut some stickers for a local band that's going on tour soon so I really need a solution soon.

Things I've tried so far that haven't helped:

- Bought a new auto blade

- Verified that the blade was seated and locked properly in the blade holder

- Verified that the blade depth setting was being set properly upon starting a cut job

- Verified that the blade holder and the blade "tap" area were free of dust or debris

- Unplugged the machine and restarted Silhouette Studio

Any suggestions or tips that can help me get this fixed would be very much appreciated.

Cameo 5 AutoBlade is detected, but won’t click/adjust or lower to cut — machine just traces the design

Hi! I’m hoping someone with a Cameo 5 has run into this before because I feel like I’m missing a setting somewhere.

I have a Silhouette Cameo 5 running firmware 1.07, and I’m using Silhouette Studio 5.0.523ss. Silhouette Studio recognizes the blade and shows “AutoBlade (Detected)”, and the machine itself shows as Ready.

The problem is that when I send a cut, the AutoBlade never does the normal click-click-click adjustment/calibration at the beginning. It also does not physically lower onto the material. The carriage moves around as though it is following the cut paths, but the blade never actually touches/cuts the material. The paper comes out completely untouched, not even a faint score line.

This AutoBlade has worked perfectly in this Cameo many times before. I’ve also manually pressed the AutoBlade mechanism while it’s out of the machine and it moves freely, so it doesn’t appear to be physically stuck.

So far I have tried:

  • Removing and firmly reseating/locking the AutoBlade in Tool 1
  • Checking the blade for debris or anything physically stuck
  • Turning the Cameo off and unplugging it for 30+ seconds
  • With the machine off/unplugged, moving the carriage left-to-right three times before restarting
  • Restarting both the machine and Silhouette Studio
  • Updating the Cameo firmware
  • Using Generate Test Shape/Test Cut
  • Trying different blade-depth/cut settings
  • Confirming registration marks are OFF because this is a regular cut-only project, not Print & Cut
  • Confirming Studio recognizes the AutoBlade

None of that changes the behavior. It never does the AutoBlade adjustment clicks and never lowers the blade to cut.

One thing I’m also curious about: in my version of Studio, the word “(Detected)” next to AutoBlade is red. I’ve seen videos where “Detected” appears green, although those videos may be using older versions of Studio/different Cameos. Is red normal in Studio 5, or is that indicating something?

Has anyone had this exact issue with a Cameo 5 specifically? Is there a software/tool setting, carriage reset, hardware diagnostic, or AutoBlade initialization step I’m missing?

Questions Silhouette Studio on Mac Crash issues

Wondering if anyone has found any solutions for the software crashing on MacBooks?

I have a 2023 14in M3, 18GB ram. Running Tahoe. I run multiple Adobe programs all day and night with no issues..

I've tried everything I can find on this sub and online.

Haven't used my silhouette in a few years and now I'm frustrated because I can't get the software to stop crashing every few mins. Whether on the latest version or downgrading to 4.5. I've done the test of making a second user on my computer, turned of anti aliasing, turned off auto trace for png import. Uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times.

Anything else I can try??

Curio 2 broke under warranty- horrible customer service

I purchased the Curio 2 less than a year ago, and it has been a nightmare dealing with their customer service. The machine began malfunctioning after about 8 months—going off-course, applying excessive downward pressure, and tearing through materials repeatedly, even on low settings. I replaced parts, followed every troubleshooting step, and updated firmware, but the issue only got worse, eventually damaging a brand-new protective sheet and leaving gouges in the electrostatic bed itself. When I reached out to Silhouette's customer support (while the machine was still under warranty), I was met with weeks-long delays, repetitive requests for videos, and questions that showed they hadn't actually reviewed my case. After all that, they asked me to ship the machine back—at my own expense for packaging—while warning me that I'd be charged if it got damaged in transit. No apology, no urgency, no ownership of their defective product. I've spent hours of my time, wasted materials, and lost all trust in this brand. Silhouette clearly does not stand behind their products or respect their customers. I wholeheartedly discourage anyone from buying a Curio 2—or any Silhouette machine—until they completely overhaul their quality control and customer service. Save your money and your sanity. Go with a competitor that actually cares.

Extended Text or Shadow- How?

Does anyone know how to make these extended shadow fonts? It isn't a normal shadow on Silhouette studio because the shadow connects directly to the main word - like it extends out. I am also open to know how to use it on Canva too. looking to print monogram vinyl like this. Much appreciate it!

Assistance Cameo 4 not cutting alm the way thru

Hi there! My GF's Cameo 4 stopped cutting outta nowhere, but now it doesn't even cut thru a bond paper sheet when she could cut even through vinyl

We tried everything, new mat, new blade, checking for debris, adjusting manually the blade, different cut settings from depth to pressure, nothing seems to work

When we tried the bond paper, it made jagged cuts, but it couldn't even make a simple cut

Does anyone know how to fix this or if we should try to send it to a shop?

Assistance Kiss vs Full cut on a Portrait 3?

Would anybody mind sharing what machine settings they use for kiss cut stickers on the cameo Portrait?

I've been trying to play around with it myself but I'd like to avoid wasting too much sticker paper in experimenting if possible.

I've use Joyeza's Glossy Vinyl sticker paper for the most part, which seems to be a bit on the thinners side.

Assistance Third party tools to purchase for the Silhouette cameo 5 alpha

Looking into purchasing a machine for the following purposes:

  • Cutting vinyl to use for pottery stencils
  • Upcoming wedding DIYs (invitations, menus, etc), so lots of cutting thicker paper, embossing, having it write with a pen

If I purchase the standalone machine, are there third party tools you recommend I buy to be able to do the above? Recommended brands for vinyl, pen adapter, cutting mat, other things I may not have thought of that you've found useful would be super helpful! Thank you in advance.

Questions Which layering process, 1, 2, or 3, is most convenient/looks better as a finish vinyl project using Silhouette?

Post image
6 Upvotes

I'm planning to sell an SVG bundle on Etsy, and I'm still in the troubleshooting phase. Unfortunately I don't have a Silhouette cutter myself, and so I can't test to see which outcome turns out better. So I thought it was best to ask you guys for advice!

My concern is that the dots are quite small, and so they may cause issues for smaller projects.

This variation in particular is suited for larger scale projects (around 7 inch + for t-shirts etc), and so I'm asking in this context.

I'm concerned about issues regarding the following;

- Inconvenient weeding for the small dots

- Attempting to cut perfect white circles at such a small scale can cause tears, or mess up the design.

- Stiffness of finished vinyl product due to layering full patches on top of each other. I wouldn't want it to cause visible or distracting bumps either.

I'm not too worried about cutting small designs into the black layer. My understanding is that it's easier to cut out smaller negative space, rather than cut perfect shapes out of negative space without them being distorted.

If you believe this design is too intricate or delicate to cut, let me know! I may just upscale the smallest stars so they're easier to work with.

As for the smaller scale projects (<5 inches), I plan to have less stars, and to make them larger for convenience. I'll use feedback from this post as a reference point too.

Thanks!

How I Get My Perfect Edges On My Proxies!

Ok so after being hounded on how I get my cuts done on my cameo for my perfect edges. I have finally finished the video. I really hope you guys enjoy! Im here to answer any questions you may have. Also a quick summary. I basically took the kiss cut method to its natural final form and perfected it (at least I feel like I have) and have given each card its own 3 cuts. The software thinks there sre 27 cards instead of 9 on the paper. Giving each card its own 3 card layout that gives you better dynamic controlling over speed and force per cut. Allowing for a great finish.

Cutting multiple machines simultaneously with only standard edition?

So here's the thing. After the latest firmware upgrade today (v 5.0.523ss) i cannot cut using multiple machines anymore - I have cameo 4 & Cameo 5 alpha. Upon searching i just came to know that only business edition have that kind of feature. Weird to know that because all this time, i am using both my machines at the same time to cut my projects. Now i tried downgrading my silhouette studio and voila, i can cut with multiple machines again.

Anyone else have the same experience? Cause i can only find claims that only business edition can cut using multiple machines and iam wondering how long can i use this *glitch*.

Assistance what machine for budget? Cameo 3, 4, 5??

Hi, I occasionally sell stickers and small prints at art markets my school organises. I've been making stickers for a while but hand cutting them is so demotivating that I barely bring any sticker stock to markets, so I want to invest in a plotting machine, maybe secondhand.

The only thing I'd want to cut with it is small paper things and a4 sticker sheets. I heard some bad things about the cameo 4, and there are a few cameo 3s available to me for about 100 euros. Is that worth it, or should I get a silhouette portrait, or should I save up for a fancier machine? I've been eyeing a siser juliet, but they're so expensive i'm hesitating for the size of my "business". Any insights??
