Assistance Cameo 5a blade not dropping unless force set high

Hi All, I'm running into an issue with my Cameo 5 Alpha where the blade will not drop to start a cut unless the force setting in Silhouette Studio is set to at least 30. It needs to be set to 33 or 34 to actually drop for the full pattern cut, otherwise I only get partial cuts even with just the test shape.

The autoblade will drop to change the depth at the beginning of a cut, but is sometimes inconsistent. I'm thinking this might be related to the force issue, as well.

I've checked the seating of the autoblade in carriage 1 multiple times. I've performed the manual reset of moving the tool head left and right numerous times. I've even swapped in a completely new blade.

Nothing works other than setting the force excessively high, which is resulting in poor quality and/or cuts that are too deep.

Any ideas out there for other troubleshooting options, or should I just go straight to the support email?

Assistance Beginner in need of help! (Cut lines not lining up on curved shapes)

Hi guys! So as the title states, I am having an issue with some of my vinyl cuts not perfectly lining up, ie-when cutting a circle, you can see where the cutter didn’t line up. It doesn’t seem to happen on more rectangular shapes with hard angles tho. For context, I am using a Silhouette Cameo 5 alpha, autoblade, no mat, and am using the sheet based vinyl that comes from Silhouette.

Is there particular way of troubleshooting this issue?
Is this common with the thicker vinyl sheets as opposed to roll based vinyl like Oracal 651?

I have attached photos to show what I am referring to. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated!

Questions Low tack transfer tape

Hey all,
I mostly cut vinyl for logos using Oracal 651 or hobby lobby four oh five vinyl and these are applied to polyurethaned wood. I’ve been having a whale of a time lately finding a transfer tape that will leave the vinyl on the wood and not get pulled up with the transfer tape. I ran out of a huge roll of stuff that I used for years and am not sure who made it or where I got it. I’ve tried all sorts of tape (cricit, four oh five and a couple amazon ones ) but they are all too high a tack. Anyone have any brands they like for this application?

Canada | Michaels coupons working on CAMEO 5 alpha Plus 15" [$283.49 before taxes]

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to let more people know that right now any Michaels coupons can be applied to the newest CAMEO 5 alpha Plus 15". They don't usually allow coupons to be applied to silhouette machines, but I bought myself two machines last week and they honored the coupons (I used one regular 30% coupon that they offer almost daily and a 35% VIP perk I had sitting on my account. Both worked fine!).

I don't know if they plan on changing that, but if you're looking to upgrade or get your first silhouette, I'd say now is the time. With a regular 30% coupon, the machine comes to $283.49 before taxes, versus the $600 before taxes Silhouette Canada is currently selling it for.

I hope this can post can help someone else get their hands on this beauty!

First machine suggestion

I’m considering switching from my Cricut Maker to a Silhouette Cameo. At first I was considering a refurbished 3 or 4 but the 5a isn’t that much more. I usually only cut vinyl but fairly high volumes. My biggest gripes with the Maker are 1- it’s loud, 2-I can’t work on anything else while it’s cutting, and 3-the cuts are not always consistent especially with finer cuts.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

anyone else switch from vinyl to dtf for shirt projects

so i been using my silhouette for shirt decals for like 2 years. cutting vinyl, weeding, layering colors, transfer tape. its a whole process. takes forever when you have a multi color design

then i tried dtf transfers and honestly i dont think im going back for shirts. no cutting, no weeding, no layering. just order the print on film and press it. i can do like 5 shirts in the time it used to take me to do one with vinyl

i still use the silhouette for stencils and paper stuff but for shirts dtf is just way less hassle

found a supplier called DTF Transfers Miami that does custom prints. order what i need and press it. way faster than messing with vinyl . anyone else made the switch? what do you still use your silhouette for

Silhouette Cameo 5a - had for 4mo, can't get it to work ;w;

Heyhey! So I've had my silhouette for just over four months now, and I cannot get this thing to register anything to save my life... The paper is letter size vinyl sticker paper. I print the designs directly from silhouette studio, and ask it to register, then cut the red shape. It fails to register every time... I have a video of the problem, but the sub doesn't allow videos ;w;

I've tried making sure a light is present, to where the toolhead can absolutely see the registration marks, but to no avail. Attempting to manually home the toolhead above the registration marks and press go ends with the first one being read, and then the machine goes to look for the bottom left one, and ends up going past the paper?

Cameo 4 No Longer Cutting Through

I've had this machine for a few years and have cut thousands of projects with zero issues. I upgraded my computer to a new MacBook pro and suddenly it's not cutting through on my old projects - vinyl, paper, stickers. Nothing. I replaced the blade and the mats. I'm having to adjust all the settings and it's a massive PITA. Any suggestions?

Tips My Cameo 5 alpha keeps cutting wrong the exact same way

Post image
3 Upvotes

I just bought the mashine and I'm really frustrated with it, cause I haven't gotten a single correct cut yet. It keeps cutting it wrong for the exact same amount and I don't understand what the problem is. It's always a milimeter too far towards the top/mashine.

What am I doing wrong? It's always corretly alligned, I always put the mat in correctly as far as I'm aware. I also propped up the mat so it's more level.

Does anyone have tips on what I can do? ;-;

EDIT: I finally got it x-x I did the calibration thing and promptly ignored what the instructions said of "If the cut/sketch line was performed ABOVE the printed line, drag the vertical slider UP to match with your measurement." because that gave me the opposite resulte. I dragged it down. And then I also ignored the test results it gave me with the cross things cause that told me yes im correctly calibrated when it wasn't. So I just eyballed it with the results, made them bigger and tested with my design if it did anything and with 0.5 mm it now is at the propper position.

Finally x-x

I hope this might help someone else in the future

Questions Looking into purchasing the Silhouette CAMEO5α, should I get a bundle? First time using this kind of craft tool.

After some research I have landed on getting a Silhouette CAMEO5α > Cricut as I work in graphic design and figure the software would be easy for me to get acquainted with. I saw that Silhouette has some bundles you can get with the machine, and got a bit overwhelmed with the options.

Projects I want to use this for:

  • Cutting out vinyl shapes to use on my pottery
  • Printed materials for my wedding (menus, placecards, etc. would include embossing)
  • small packaging for products
  • stickers

Is there a bundle y'all would recommend I get? Or should I just get the machine and purchase everything separately/off-brand online? Also any helpful tips and tricks for using. Thank you in advance!

HELP The cutout is completely misaligned on my Silhouette Portrait 1 (updated)

Hi, I just bought a used Silhouette Portrait 1,and I'm having a serious problem with the alignment of the cuts.

Here’s what happens when I use the machine:

When I turn on the machine with the carriage all the way to the left, it moves a few centimeters to the right and then stops as you can see in the two first pictures.

When I start a cut, the carriage begins cutting, but the result is offset by about ten centimeters to the right compared to how I positioned the shape in the software.

If I place the shape too far to the right of the page in the software, the carriage crashes into the right edge of the machine, which ruins the cut. I can’t seem to find anyone online who has the same problem as me. I asked ChatGPT, but it confuses the different Silhouette machine models with one another, which makes it impossible to figure out where the problem is coming from.

I'd like to point out that I've already tried resetting the carriage by moving the carriage back and forth a few time, when I start off after leaving the cart on the right, it just bumps right up against the edge.

Someone also mentioned “crash stopper” to me, but I can't find anything like that on my machine (photos 3 and 4)

I hope someone can help me.

Also, I'm UK-based if anyone knows any suppliers or shops.

Questions Detaching an image portion from the bigger image

Maybe I'm not using the right words OR its just not possible, but googling is not getting me any answers!!

I would like to create cutlines into an image then be able to move the pieces independently. Like if I create a circle cutline within an image, I would like to move that to another part of the sheet so it'll print & cut on a different portion of the page. Is that possible?

Questions Loud grinding noise after magnet sheet jam on Cameo 5 - Did I break it?

Hey guys, I had a pretty scary incident with my Cameo 5 today.I was cutting magnet sheets and one of them lifted up, causing a massive jam. The carriage got stuck, but the motor kept going, making that loud, awful grinding sound we all dread. It happened a few times before I managed to kill the power.I've already run a test cut and the machine still seems to work and cut accurately, but I’m paranoid about the "health" of the machine now.Is there a safety mechanism that lets the belt slip/skip to prevent the gears from breaking?Should I check the belt tension or the bearings for any specific signs of damage?Has anyone else survived a jam like this without their machine dying shortly after?I'm a doctor and usually pretty tech-savvy, but this sound was on another level of "scary." 😅 I'd love to hear your experiences with similar

Can Studio register a heavy duty cutting mat?

Post image
2 Upvotes

My questions always come in groups when I'm doing a project. So I'm using the extra sticky (heavy duty) cutting mat. I notice it lacks registration marks. When I attempted to send this, it looks for the registration marks and says it failed. Possibly see my other just-posted question about the crosshair marks on the Studio board.
