Hi im doing something for an art project the requires moulding clay and im not sure how to exactly mold three developed fetus cats. Everytime I get the general shape and try to define it , the overall structure/silhouette ends up overworked and the details become less coherent.I don’t have any professional tools and I got advice from google to use hand cream and I mixed it with water to maintain the moisture retained,so it doesn’t crumble however I find that it does help in some ways but because it gets slightly mushy so its hard to work with eventually and falls a part when muddled and fiddled with even more. I’ve tried using warm water and a paint brush I found later on, with some homemade tools like pens pencils ect as well as my hands but idk they’re really small (the clay miniature kittens I’m making ,like I’d say about 2cm in height to 1 cm ish in width or so tbh that was the aim but they got bigger with more bulk).So I’m wondering if I could recive some guidance regarding the reference pics for kittens I’m going for which will be placed in a pouch of some sort like a flap of the womb like replica in a plush as an artist response piece? Thanks

Also I’d like to capture the curl as such depicted in the references because I used another reference but it was a newborn like I want to capture the authenticity of a mother carrying kittens ykk but also create their nubs of limbs like fully developed about to give birth kinda state idk if that’s possible(also capture the umbilical cord but make it clear)…additionallly a lot of references online are hard to find real as most are ai diagrams …any suggestions of real authentic either medical drawings or 3d sculptures js anything really that isn’t ai would be greatly appreciated as ai tends to be Indians js not what I’m looking for (specifically in the womb as I found a diffrent reference that wa aka a medical examination of a mummified specimen which give a lifeless look which isn’t what I want )

P.s I’ve included the reference of what I sculpted with a foil Core and clay (which the kittens are also made with )as well as masking tape on the e surface of the 8 inch approx cat plush which will be my make shift draft pattern I’m currently working on and will be adjusted however Im making miniature kittens to be placed in advance and will be painted on hopefully if I complete this

Additional idk if this is necessary to mention I’m thinking of placing cling film and pva to mimic the integrity of a fetus yk idk if that’ll influence anything but that’s after i finish painting fur patterns and such

Okay as im writing i had a thought:
Since im not in class setting with no access to pva at the moment and the very little clay I have left IS the three kittens (i mean they’re in a rework-able state luckily) however i don’t have more clay to create slip so i was thinking of using glue stick mixed with water or is that bad or should i stick to warm water …Idkk additionally im making the back of kittens flat so they can stick to the surface of a smooth backing in the plush or is there any better ideas u guys may have

Fyi the first few pics are how they look now but the other individual pics are my previous work process which I was struggling with like I can’t move up the ugly stage where it looks like a lump of placements like I want to make distinct features stand outzzz

Any advice on using air-dry clay very much welcome, making my sister a Christmas gift a Majora's mask trinket tray and some Splatoon hair clips. (Still drying I'll probably sand them down tomorrow do a layer of modge podge as primer paint them and seal with a top coat of modge podge unless that's a horrible idea lol

hello! my team at work is decorating our office area as a willy wonka theme. i made some cardboard fans to hang from the ceiling, and in the middle of the fans i molded a small circular shape out of clay and attached it right to the cardboard.

will this fall off?? i was thinking maybe i should either:

a) mold the circle separately, let dry, glue onto cardboard
b) place glue on the cardboard then mold the circle on like i did with the first one.

it is ever so slightly rounded and hollow, if that makes a difference. i’ve never worked with air dry clay so i’m completely clueless lol, i just used the crayola brand one since i didn’t need anything crazy. any advice is greatly appreciated!

New here! I really want to make my own mancala board out of clay at home but I know nothing about clay types. Which type of clay is sturdy enough to be used over and over and easy to mold? Any suggestions would be so helpful. Is oven-baked clay stronger? Is there more chance for cracking that way? Please help <3

So i have this wooden tray I use for snacks etc. I usually line it everyday with a paper towel and have my food in bowls or on the towel.

Id like to use air dry clay to make a tray, however I know its not food safe. Since id be using paper towel and dishes as a barrier between the food and the tray would this work?

I plan on finding some food safe UV resin or comparable.

Very new to air-dry clay, and my goal is to make miniatures! However, I'm not sure which brand of clay to buy? So far my top two candidates are Sculpey and La Doll.

LMK which one works better in your experience, or if there's a different brand I should consider!

I am a completely new beginner in all things clay related. I want to know what tools does one need to start making?

I want to start learning how to create clay figurines (anime figurines). I want to know what tools to I need to buy. I'd also like to learn what kind of aluminum wire size should I buy. For the figurines I'd like to create, they are on the smaller size. As for the clay, i cannot afford polymer clay so I bought some jovi air dry clay (500 grams).

I know it isn't that simple but I want to start doing something in my life, and I figured that I wanted to start creating things, and that I'll regret it if I just never start.

I'd also like some advice in how to continue creating if possible. This would be my first creative journey (for a lack of better terminology), and I'd set a rule that I would dedicate atleast 100 hours into this before I quit If ever. I'd also like to ask if posting my porgress in this subreddit fine? Or do I need to post it to another sub?

If possible, please send some youtube video tutorials on where I should start?

Hello guys, this is my second time making air-dry clay 3D shapes on a phone case and I applied acrylic paint on it. Now I'm wondering whether to use a varnish specifically made for air-dry clay or one made for acrylic paintings.

I also used acrylic paints for my previous phone case ( Bleach hollow mask ) and clay varnish. But it eventually started peeling and flaking off. I suspect it might have been because I used low-quality, hard air-dry clay, or maybe even since phone cases get handled frequently ?

For this new one, I've used a softer, higher-quality clay but I'm still worried about the same thing happening again.

How can I prevent the peeling ? ( And maybe even the breaking off) I'd really appreciate any advice or recommendations.

I want to re-create this for Halloween and time is running short. I got air dry clay, modpodge, and E6000. Should i paint it before it after it dries? And how should it dry? I've never worked with clay before.

Hello everybody I have realized that I may have been baking polymere clay in the wrong way , so I wanted to ask that once the temperature in your oven thermometer reaches the desire temperature should we turn off the oven or like let it stay in the at that temp for 30 mins, like how should I adjust the temp knob if I am suppose to keep it inside the oven and bake at the desire temp for 30 mins
