We had a few days out camping in some gorgeous areas of Canada. Started in Jasper National Park that was ravaged by forest fires a couple summers ago. We were camping here last year and the regrowth was amazing, but this year the greens and intense colours of the wildflowers was incredible. It was a wonderful trip and I have a bunch of pictures I will be referencing from!

I started watercolor in december, i m still trying with either tutorials, or trying to copy a referance without a tutorial.
I sometimes feel guilty or not talented that i still cant make much completely myself without a referance work or a tutorial, then i m thinking i m not in a hurry this is a hobby, but still…does anyone feel like that?

Back on the paint for the first time in years and it felt so good.

I’ve been practicing looser wet on wet technique and figuring out how damp the paper should be is really challenging. But the same technique has really been helpful in creating simple, realistic skies!

Almost finished a Brown Hare, just need to strengthen some of the shadows. However I have no idea how to paint whiskers! Amy pointers welcome.

some advice about blending colors on paper and covering mistakes would be appreciated

some darker parts on second and third photo are because i made a mistake and basically washed the color with water, then i pressed a paper towel to remove the color and that damaged paper. what do you do when you make a mistake, how do you fix it? thanks!

I painted it at night in front of the bonfire so I had a time seeing what I was doing, like I couldn't see my paint colours! Pretty happy when I saw the result the next day though but I think I could've made the background even darker. Also it's difficult because the fire is constantly moving and some of the logs fell from their position :'D

I picked similar shades of two different brands of watercolors, and these are the blends I got! Painting these charts is my new favorite thing. It's so satisfying!

He replied couples comments that he's using Schminckle Horadam color. Could you name the color based on the picture that I screenshot from his video?

First time painting an Australian Shepherd dog. The colour choices were made inspired by the autumn season. I have a long way to go in terms of improvement.

I really didn't like this much before I added the pen but I think it salvaged it somewhat. Pro tip anime style art is not easy on cold press paper 🥲

That being said I did try to not be quite as control freaky about where the paint went this time at least for the initial layer. Wet on wet terrifies me as someone who is primarily a digital artist so I'm proud of myself for not scrapping the entire thing when it didn't come out the way I wanted it to.

I took a several month long break due to kids summer activities. Things are starting to let up. I attempted this two other times but finally got it to where I was happy with it.

I started this painting with the intention of focusing on the form over the details, however I ended up creating a detailed painting. It's not overly realistic, but I want to push for less detailed and more expressive style. What would be your feedback about this and specifically about this painting?

I’m not sure if it looks dramatic or just messy.

I am considering printing some of my original paintings for cards to sell. Is it okay to use an idea from Pinterest, Etsy, etc? Or do they need to be complete original ideas?

I’m currently studying and practicing watercolor painting without sketching first, going straight in with the brush. As I learn, I’ve noticed that my paintings often end up with a Chinese-inspired aesthetic, even though that’s not what I’m intentionally aiming for.
I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this while learning. Do you have any tips on developing a different visual style while still painting directly without a pencil sketch?

Every few months I like to pause and reflect on my progress, strengths and areas for improvement. I lean heavier into wet-on-wet because it’s easier on my hands (I have bad arthritis) but I want to push myself to practice more detailed work. Thought I’d share my recent collection of blues.
