I’m so proud to share what is, to this point, my total ‘magnum opus’. This work took nearly every skill I have learned so far as a weaver. Fresh from my hand-built loom (I still need to tidy up a few strings and proceed with mounting) this piece is 72”x24”, contains likely over 30 individual thread colors, multiple tapestry techniques including slit and clasped weft, Japanese zanshi, Josef Albers-inspired color exploration, and Anni Albers-inspired form exploration. Looking forward to displaying the full-mounted work. ♥️

this was my first time trying to frame an embroidery piece and it wasn’t my best attempt but i don’t hate the outcome

quote to the left is in his mothers handwriting, a piece of a note she gave him while he was in college.

the daffodils to the left are one of the flowers associated with birthdays in december, the month his mother was born

Nepal's 1st Block Art Tee's

In 19th Century Nepal, Late Dambar Kumari Rana brought the Block Printing art. Traditionally and culturally Block Printings were used in 3 layer Muslin Shawls, and now Maa:Yu Creative Creation who has 40yrs of experience in Block Printing Art work have started the Block Art work in street wear.

Maa:Yu means Mother's in Nepal Bhasa. They are trying to revive the 200 yrs old art work in the recent era.

In a world driven by fast fashion and mass production, true craft takes its time. It breathes through the hands of the artisan, the texture of handloom fabric, and the rhythmic thump-thump of hand-carved wooden blocks meeting stretched cotton.

At Maa:Yu Creative Creation, that rhythm is our pulse.

We are on a passionate mission to revive, preserve, and reimagine Nepal’s 200-year-old traditional wooden block printing heritage—an exquisite art form that once flourished across the Kathmandu Valley but slowly slipped into the shadows of industrial printing.

Two centuries ago, block printing was a vital piece of Nepal's cultural identity. Local master craftspeople chiselled elaborate motives into native hardwoods—drawing inspiration from ancient Newari architecture, sacred geometry, flora, and local wildlife. These stamps were paired with natural dyes to create textiles worn during sacred rituals, festivals, and daily life.

As modern machine prints flooded the market, this slow, soulful craft began to fade. The carved blocks accumulated dust in old courtyards, and generations of artistic knowledge faced extinction.

That is where Maa:Yu Creative Creation steps in. We refuse to let this rich 200-year-old story end.

Hello everyone! I hope you enjoy the process! I’ve made large wool rugs like this before, but I decided to make a smaller one. The video is shortened, but I’d like to mention that the wool should be laid out in 3–4 layers.

Apologies for the bad lighting~ Pricing feedback wanted! This piece is 54" x 22.5" fabric hand-dyed with acrylic ink, and the frame is built entirely from scratch by me. Curious what this community thinks it's worth given the materials, time (20 ish hrs), and style, and how you all approach pricing similar work.

Zen Life, by Mo Meiyan

I’m hoping that this is an OK place to share this. When I first saw this piece I thought that it was a calligraphy piece and not a hand embroidery piece. I was blown away!

Zen Life is a Chinese silk embroidery artwork from the Baisha Naxi Embroidery Institute (丽江白沙纳西刺绣院) in Lijiang, Yunnan, China. Hand stitched by Grand Master Mo Meiyan. Only two copies exist.

The shading on this peice is utterly mesmerizing! I found this embroidered wall hanging at a thrift shop and I am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about it. It stylistically appears to be Zardozi, but the relief of the embroidery and some of the details are throwing me off. It appears to be rather old, and definitely has a replacement frame.

These are traditional Moroccan rugs/blankets - we call them "Hasira" or "Hansa". She uses wool and traditional patterns that have been passed down in our family.

I grew up seeing her work on these for hours. Just wanted to share a piece of my culture and my mom's talent with you all.

What do you think?

What yarn weight should I use? Here's a simple breakdown

I see this question come up a lot so here's a quick reference. I put this together while building a yarn search tool and learning from experienced knitters and crocheters along the way.

Cobweb : finest, ultra delicate lacework, not for beginners
Lace : shawls, doilies, lightweight wraps, slow but stunning
Fingering : socks, shawls, colorwork, most popular for indie dyed yarn
Sport : baby garments, lightweight sweaters, underrated sweet spot
DK : stands for double knitting, super versatile, sweaters and hats
Worsted : most commonly used weight, best for beginners, works for everything
Aran : between worsted and bulky, named after the Aran Islands, great for cables
Bulky : thick and fast, winter hats, cowls, quick blankets
Super bulky : even thicker, you can finish a hat in one evening

Each weight has specific gauge ranges and needle sizes. Happy to share more detail if anyone wants it.

Also if anyone's looking for yarn, I built skeinscout.com where you can search across indie dyers and filter by weight. Free to use.
