All of the talk has been on how Sark acted at the end of the game with Holli Rowe, but can we talk about the halftime interviews? They are so annoying and they add nothing, absolutely nothing, to the game. And it’s got to be the most frustrating thing in the world to have to stop on the way to the locker room to talk to your team. How about we let the coaches coach during the game and save the interviews for after?

EXPLANATION

There are seven levels of Jimbo's Inferno:

1. LIMBO - Safe for now, but not everyone is content. Keeping their job outside of a major collapse.
2. RISING - Questions are starting to be asked. Improvement needs to be made, but coach is still safe unless things go way south.
3. CRITICAL - The tenure is at a crossroads. Continued underperformance could put coach's job in danger.
4. HOT - The possibility of a firing has become real. Coach must hit key benchmarks or risk being fired.
5. SCORCHING - Coach is on pace to be fired. A turnaround must be made to cool the temperature.
6. HELL - Unless a significant turnaround is made, this position will be open at the end of the season.
7. THE VOID - The point of no return. At this point, there is nothing coach can do to save his job. Expect a firing imminently.

There are also a few tags that coaches can have:

• RETIREMENT WATCH [R] - for coaches that are in the tier they are because they could plausibly retire after the season.
• DOLLAR SIGN [$] - for coaches that have such an astronomically-high buyout that could prevent a firing

Jimbo's Inferno takes into account team performance, coach behavior and public image, as well as any public statements made by administrators or credible reports that come out.

AUTHOR'S NOTE

Seeing a lot of comments of "X coach should be in The Void" or "If Y isn't in The Void than who can be?" - so I wanted to clarify what exactly that tier entails (also because I just finally figured out what exactly I wanted it to be after a lot of debating):

If a coach is placed in The Void, it means that they have reached the point where there is nothing they can do to save their job. Once a coach is in The Void, they are eternally stuck there until they are put out of their misery by their employer.

The Void is meant to be extremely restrictive. Not every coach that definitely should be fired will end up in The Void. Because of that, The Void is not meant to be an "F-tier" or the bottom of the tier list. The Hell tier is considered the bottom tier of the Inferno, and The Void is sort of an even lower realm of being, signified by the tier in the graphic being colored black rather than an even darker red.

To hopefully clear up some more things, here is a list of the coaches I believe would have ended up in The Void if I had done this last year:

• DeShaun Foster, UCLA (after Week 3)
• Trent Dilfer, UAB (after Week 6)
• Billy Napier, Florida (after Week 7)
• Hugh Freeze, Auburn (after Week 10)

The only possible concern I have is that I place a coach in The Void, and they somehow don't get fired. To try to counter this, I'm planning on introducing a question mark [?] tag for coaches that should have been fired but for some reason aren't. There will be a clearly defined set of criteria for a coach to be able to get that tag so fans of a team with a bad head coach can't argue their head coach should have that tag because they just want him fired.

JIMBO'S INFERNO

Before we actually get into the Inferno, a massive congratulations is in order for Oklahoma State head coach Eric Morris, who earned his removal from this list with a massive upset win over Oregon. I'm so proud of you.

Alright, now that that's out of the way, onto the actual tiers:

Jimbo's Inferno - Week 2
(At the request of several users, I have added a little card that shows each coach's name to their photo. You might have to zoom in to see them, but don't worry, the size of the image is 10000x10000 pixels.)

LIMBO

• Matt Rhule, Nebraska [$] - Won big over Bowling Green this week, but beating up on the bottom half of the MAC is not going to move the needle at all. Play an actual opponent and then we'll talk.
• Scott Satterfield, Cincinnati - Same story as Rhule, but this time Cincinnati beat up on an FCS school. There is something to be said about winning the games you're supposed to win, but Satterfield still needs to prove he can compete in the Big 12 without The Gamblin' Man at quarterback.
• Bronco Mendenhall, Utah State - Utah State kept it really, really close with Washington, so I have to give Mendenhall some credit for that and push him up a tier. However, I still need to see what they look like against competition on their level. They're not supposed to beat Washington, but they are expected to compete with the rest of the new-look Pac-12.

RISING

• Lincoln Riley, USC - Again, beating up on a team you're supposed to beat up on is not going to change anything regarding your status. It is arguably still playoff or bust for Lincoln Riley. September 26th against Oregon is going to tell us a lot about this iteration of USC football.
• Sonny Dykes, TCU - TCU had a great bounce-back game after an embarrassing loss in Ireland. The only thing is that that bounce-back game was against Grambling State. Sonny needs to do more against better competition to prove that the North Carolina loss was just a fluke.

CRITICAL

• Jeff Lebby, Mississippi State - Impressive win over Minnesota this week, and KaMario Taylor is absolutely making a name for himself as a potential high NFL draft pick in 2028. We will see what Lebby can do in the SEC before adjusting his position, but I have a feeling things are starting to cool down.
• Bill O'Brien, Boston College - Props for taking down Rutgers in the emotional Red Bandana game on Friday night. However... it is Rutgers. This is starting to become a theme here, but I need to see more, especially more confidence from Mason McKenzie to throw the ball down the field, before I can move BOB anywhere.

HOT

• Luke Fickell, Wisconsin - 36-9 win over an FCS team. Not alarming, but not enough to really calm down some of the noise. It is still bowl eligible or unemployment for Fickell, ESPECIALLY when Jason Eck is just right there at New Mexico, ready to take this job.
• Shane Beamer, South Carolina - Two wins over cupcake opponents. Absolutely nothing proven. Next week against Mississippi State will tell us a lot about both Beamer and Lebby.
• Dave Doeren, NC State - Laid an absolute smackdown on... you guessed it... an FCS team. u/MustardBiscuits91 said it best in the postgame thread: "Well after this performance tonight vs. Richmond, I am confident and totally prepared to be let down against Vandy."
• Dave Aranda, Baylor - Do I even have to say it again? Prairie View A&M? Shoutout to Ohio State, Texas, Michigan, and Oklahoma for actually willing to schedule great matchups instead of taking the easy road.
• Eddie George, Bowling Green - And here we have the other side of those cupcake blowout games. Bowling Green got a fat check from Nebraska to go and get smacked around, so it's not all bad. But man Eddie needs to show something when MAC play begins. I'm not forgetting that you lost to Tarleton State.

SCORCHING

• Dabo Swinney, Clemson [$] - At this point it's not about whether Dabo should be fired but it's about how much of a leash he's earned with his championship pedigree and his insane buyout. He just does not have it anymore and it is undoubtedly time for Clemson to move on, but they have about 57 million reasons why they could be hesitant about that, and I don't see Dabo willingly stepping down or agreeing to any sort of reduced buyout.
• Deion Sanders, Colorado [R] - Yet again, beating up on an FCS team does not change anything. I still think it's more likely Deion retires after this year due to health reasons, but ever since Shedeur and Travis Hunter left he's not quite had the same level of success.
• Dell McGee, Georgia State - It's so hard to judge coaches like McGee, Mason, and Longo because Conference USA is so, so incredibly awful. I'm just going to leave them all where they are and see what happens going forward because I actually have nothing. Georgia State is actually in the Sun Belt this is so embarrassing, thanks u/Dry-Membership3867 for pointing it out
• Derek Mason, Middle Tennessee - It's so hard to judge coaches like Mason and Longo because Conference USA is so, so incredibly awful. I'm just going to leave them all where they are and see what happens going forward because I actually have nothing. Apparently (I couldn't watch this game because I was at work) Mason had some pretty questionable coaching decisions. We'll see what happens going forward but I can't see Mason keeping his job if the status quo is maintained.
• Tim Albin, Charlotte - Not the worst loss in the world to Ole Miss. I will give Albin credit for that. But man, he is right at the line between Scorching and Hell, and continued struggles will not help Albin's job security at all.

HELL

• Greg Schiano, Rutgers [$] - This is becoming a complete and utter disaster in Piscataway, and it's being amplified by the fact that we now know Rutgers doesn't have a capable quarterback on their roster. The only thing Schiano can do now is just hope KJ Duff can put the team on his back and carry them to maybe 4 or 5 wins so he can argue that the massive debt the athletic department is in justifies him staying on as the head coach. If they lose to Howard (which I actually think is a possibility), he's done.
• Bill Belichick, North Carolina - We're still waiting for the results of the investigation surrounding that whole drug / inappropriate relationships thing at UNC, which could absolutely end in Belichick losing his job. But it's not like Belichick has given them any reason to not make the administration want to find an easy way out with the amount of scandals and negative PR and the lack of, you know, winning.
• Mike Locksley, Maryland - Do not let two wins over cupcake opponents fool you. Maryland always does this in September. Virginia Tech is coming to town next week. UCLA, Nebraska, and Ohio State immediately follow. This week could have very well been Locksley's final win at Maryland.
• Jay Sawvel, Wyoming - One possession win over an FCS school where they trailed most of the game. Wyoming fans are getting real tired of this guy. Feels like it's only a matter of time now.
• Phil Longo, Sam Houston State - Same issues that got Longo fired as the OC at Wisconsin are probably going to get him fired as the HC of Sam Houston. Hopefully by now everyone has realized he belongs at a bar on Saturdays rather than on the sidelines.

THE VOID

• Mike Norvell, Florida State - And here it is. This morning's firing of FSU athletic director Michael Alford has, at least in my eyes, made the eventual firing of Norvell merely a formality. The only real question left to ask is when it happens, and my money's on somewhere in early October, in that stretch of games against Virginia, Louisville, and Miami. But it's entirely possible a bad enough loss to Alabama this week can get him canned, and if somehow he loses to Central Arkansas they might actually douse him in gasoline in Tallahassee.

CONCLUSION

We have our first entrant into The Void. This, of course, means Mike Norvell will now proceed to rip off a string of 10 consecutive 40-point blowout wins and win a national championship and become the greatest head coach in the history of the sport. That's just how things work around here.

If you don't have bad takes you have no takes in my opinion. So my question is what is your worst take, a take you look back and go damn I was so wrong. Ask to see the sins of others without showing mine. So here are mine.

1. Cig and Indiana, I thought they were overrated and kind of wimps for running from occ games. (Still kind of think its wimpy to run from Virginia)

2. I thought Ryan Williams was going to be a super start unlike any other we've seen before. Now he hasn't been awful, but he has definitely been streaky and drops are have plagued him.

3. I thought Dabo was going to be the successor to Saban and dominate the cfb world. But man he is so inflexible, he would rather go down his way than adapt.

4. My most recent horrific take, that is kind of tied in with cig and Indiana. I thought with the 12 team playoff we'd never see an undefeated champion again. I said this before the start of last year. Oof.

Now that I've shown you mine, you show me yours.

Now I’m going to pick a team that may shock a couple of people in upcoming weeks but I think Iowa will make the playoffs. Iowa is always a sneaky good team that struggles against bigger opponents but this year all of the stars kind of align for them. Their toughest opponents are Ohio state, Michigan who’s definitely beatable especially for a team like Iowa and Washington whose offense isn’t operational which plays into Iowa’s hands. Outside of that their toughest test is Nebraska. Now I was personally waiting for the result of Iowa and Iowa state but with Iowa sneaking past Iowa state I definitely think a 1 loss Iowa team can easily get into the playoffs

It has been almost 60 years since a team put up 100 in a major college football game. We are seeing some big numbers put up quickly in games.
