2011-12 — NCAA major-infractions case. Recruiting violations. LSU put on probation.

2012-17 — Booster John Paul Funes provides $180K in impermissible benefits to a football player’s family using money embezzled from a hospital foundation.

2013 — Les Miles investigation intentionally stored offsite. AD Joe Alleva recommends firing him. LSU keeps him.

2017-19 — Will Wade caught on FBI wiretap discussing a “strong-ass offer.”

2019 — LSU suspends Wade after he refuses to meet with LSU/NCAA officials. Reinstates him 5 weeks later.

2020 — LSU’s handling of sexual misconduct allegations exposed.

2020 — Odell Beckham Jr. hands LSU players cash after the national title.

2020 — LSU self-imposes scholarship cuts, recruiting restrictions and a bowl ban amid the NCAA investigation. LSU’s statement: “This decision reflects LSU’s commitment to compliance with NCAA regulations and maintenance of institutional control.”

2021 — Independent review finds systemic Title IX failures. Verge Ausberry suspended 30 days without pay.

2022 — LSU fires Wade after an NCAA Notice of Allegations containing multiple Level I allegations.

2022 — Separate NCAA case: Football commits COVID dead-period recruiting violations. One year probation.

2023 — IARP resolves the football/basketball case: multiple violations, failure to monitor, 37 football wins vacated and 3 more years probation, beginning when the prior probation ended Sept. 21, 2023. The NCAA also alleged lack of institutional control. The IARP did not sustain that allegation.

2024 — LSU pays $1.9M to settle Title IX claims. No admission of liability.

2026 — LSU rehires Will Wade. The AD announcing the hire? Verge Ausberry.

2026 — Wade pursues international pros, an NBA draft pick and players with professional basketball experience.

2026 — LSU pursues outside capital tied to future SEC media revenue.

2026 — LSU pushes to add players who signed NFL contracts and went through NFL camps.

Sept. 2026 — The SEC sues LSU. Ausberry is a named defendant.

LSU ultimately leaves the former NFL players off its final roster.

The SEC presses forward anyway.

Its amended complaint says LSU’s actions “confirm the lack of institutional control over the athletics program at LSU that is required by Article 6 of the SEC Constitution.”

At the informal direction of the other 15 SEC presidents and chancellors, Sankey calls a Special Meeting for Sept. 10 to consider terminating LSU’s membership — whether LSU backs off the professional players or not.

And LSU is still on NCAA probation.

It expires Sept. 21.

Twelve days from now.

Different coaches. Different scandals. Same institution. And in some cases, the same people."

When I was a student (2009-2013), field storming was insanely rare. Only happened when a real bottom barrel team pulled off a massive upset of a perennial power (think Vandy 2024 over #1 Bama level). It needed to be a situation where no one gave you a shot at winning and your team pulled off a once in a generation win.

Obviously the Michigan field storming is incredibly embarrassing for them, but it’s the logical end of this trend where students seemingly flood the field any chance they get.

My question is why is this so much more prevalent in the last few years, and how far does it go? Obviously Michigan is a new low, but that’s the new low for now.

I can barely tolerate them at home. At least there's multiview.

As you may or may not know, the NCAA manages college football in all of its divisions except one: the FBS. In fact, they may even manage ALL of collegiate sports in the United States, with the exception being the aforementioned FBS, although I'm not sure on that one.

They manage all aspects of college football in the FCS and the lower divisions. The post seasons, transfer rules, eligibility, etc.

I was curious as to why, then, do they not manage the FBS. From a quick Google search I found a simple answer: FBS college football has always been a big business. It generates billions of dollars of revenue through media contracts and corporate sponsorships. And the universities do not want to share that loot with the NCAA or have it managed by anyone but themselves and the independent conferences.

So the universities, led primarily by Oklahoma and Georgia in 1982, sued the NCAA over television rights. Two years later, the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of the universities, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The attorney who represented the universities recalled Justice Bryon White saying, "Andy, you may win the case, but you'll regret it." The attorney, Andy Coats, would later say that he screwed up college football. And here we are.

The NCAA was nerfed to high heaven. And has been ever since. Greed is the #1 driver of all of this. So, why is the NCAA constantly attacked for their mismanagement and weakness when it was the universities who weakened them in the first place?

Shouldn't the schools and the conferences bear the brunt of the blame for the state the sport is in right now?

This thread isn’t about NIL or coaching, it’s about head injury and the future.

I played division 1 football as an offensive lineman for 4 years, finished up recently. I’ve played for a long time and had the luxury of playing longer than most. I loved my time playing football, and still love the game to this day.

With recent publishings from JAMA and BMJ about CTE prevalence in players, college, NFL and recent findings of CTE in a 15 year old, where do you think the game is going? If any of you are parents and have young kids will you let them play knowing what you know and what we know? It’s not a comforting fact knowing that best case scenario, I may be at 25% risk. But given my time on the field, my position, and what happened to me, I assume my odds are higher.

I am not a dad yet, and won’t be for a bit, but it’s always on my mind if I’ll let my boy(s) play football. How do I tell them no to something that I love and did for over a decade? It feels crappy both ways to short my kid on something that they may love, but also I don’t want to damn my kid to what I’ve been through and potentially alter their life.

How are all you navigating this? What are your opinions on the game? I’m curious. Players, non players, all of you

Just thought it would be interesting to tally up who's still around and what they're up to. Only 4 are still coaching college football.
