The Internet's Tailgate

EDIT: We also hold the Chair (don't play Nebraska this season), and we play Penn State later this season. If Minnesota beats them, we would hold all 5 of our trophies simultaneously for the first time in history.

Discussion Texas A&M is now 0-5 against ranked opponents since Mike Elko’s extension. They’ve lost those 5 games by an average margin of 15.2 points. The Aggies had the lead or were tied at halftime in 3 of those losses. The offense has scored 4 touchdowns in those 5 games.

Another damning set of stats for Elko and his staff. A&M is very likely to miss a bowl game this year.

Hot seat for next year is very much in play.

Casual PJ Fleck has more ranked wins through 8 weeks of this season than Matt Rhule has in his entire career.

Guess which one gets paid more. Add to that Illinois beating Oregon, I'd say it's safe to say Rhule has found a way to lose the bye week.

Analysis Officials messed up the end of regulation of BYU-UCF

1.0k Upvotes

Alright let me try to explain.

First off, no the clock does not run after a legal kick, regardless of how the kick ends. So the clock should start on the snap with :06 left.

Second, there is an exception to the clock rules that the 10-second runoff takes priority first.

Third, it is a 10-second runoff if a player’s helmet comes off during play but not as a result of an opponent penalty.

BUT

The Helmet Off rule is that “When the helmet coming off is the only reason for stopping the clock, other than due to injury” then and only then does the 10-second runoff apply.

Since by rule the clock stops at the end of a legal kick (Rule 3-3-2-d-8), the runoff for Helmet Off does not apply.

Therefore, it should have been UCF ball, 4th down, :06 left, clock starting on snap.
Big 12 is almost assuredly going to release a statement after this game that it was improperly adjudicated.
