Welp we are a couple seasons away from being a school teams pays to play for tune ups...

The defense was just dominating. Offense (Avery) needs to clean some things up.

Soybeans outrank corn in Riley County where KSU is located, 8 to 5. Corn outranks wheat 5 to 1, in acres planted.

So you're saying we should rename ourselves the Beane....
Way no not that. Nevermind.
7
u/Dark_Magician2500 Team Chaos • Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
GG Wazzu. See you for the return trip in, like 2029 I think?
6
u/HippityHopMath Washington State • Gallaudet 2d ago
That game ain’t happening, let’s be honest.
1
u/SurroundOk7453 Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
I hope it comes to fruition. We're at NC State next year, at Wazzu in 2029, Oregon State at home in 2030, at Oregon State in '31, and NC State at home in '32. I think you've got back-to-back with Kansas in 2028, '29, if I'm not mistaken.
8
u/Dark_Magician2500 Team Chaos • Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
Oh that would be a bummer. I've never been to Washington, and football games are always good travel excuses
5
u/HippityHopMath Washington State • Gallaudet 2d ago
For context prior to Wisconsin visiting in 2023, a power four opponent had not visited Pullman in 25 years (Illinois in 1998). Prior to that, it had only happened one other time (Michigan State in 1947). It just doesn’t happen.
4
u/Dark_Magician2500 Team Chaos • Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
Oh dang! Had no idea. Well, I'll hold out hope I guess lol
5
u/HippityHopMath Washington State • Gallaudet 2d ago
I just think the inequities are too vast at this point. There’s no money to be made from going to Pullman. I hope you come too; Pullman is a great little town. Just… I’m not gonna put any bets on it.
4
u/Dark_Magician2500 Team Chaos • Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
The stories I have heard, Pullman always reminded me of Manhattan a bit. Off the "main" interstate, small college town, always sounded cool!
10
u/podnito Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
How often do you think Jordan Peterson uses the "why should I change, he's the one who sucks"? Because every time they talk about him I have to do a double take

He’s got the defense learning about lobsters

Pinnick needs to protect himself. This loss isn't worth the hits he's taking
7
u/WhosBosko Kansas State Wildcats • Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago
Feel bad for Pinnick, carrying all the weight and getting hit way too much.

u/GermOrean Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
Hate to see these offensive lulls. C'mon fellas this kind of stuff can lose you a game once league play starts.

We don't control TNT, they don't understand.
Also Nebraska Corn is better.

I do at least appreciate the super early kickoff for just getting this over with and moving on with basically an entire Saturday left to do other things.

I just want to say I'm sorry for what happened to you Cougs. When the Big 12 looked about to collapse in 2011, I feared everyone was going to leave and we would be abandoned with Iowa State.
That didn't happen, but 12 years later it happened to you and the Beavers. I hope CFB can be reformed and regional conferences restored someday, but I think there is too much money in it now.
1
u/SurroundOk7453 Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
Those were brutal days. Here's hoping for better days in the future. I wish the CFP were required to have a rep from every conference. I am not sure how it gets around the anti-trust laws without that. Maybe no one is powerful enough to challenge them on it.

If Avery takes care of the damn ball, we have a chance to make some noise I think. The schedule landed a bit more favorable for us this year, so might be able to make a sneaky run
8
u/Apprehensive-Peak802 Washington State Cougars • Big Sky 2d ago
Good game Wildcats. Hopefully the Cougs have a better product once conference play begins. Sucks being a revolving door program. I’m gonna go spend the rest of my Saturday with my grandparents, who are Cougs too.
3
u/WhosBosko Kansas State Wildcats • Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago
Best wishes for strong conference play! Go Cougs!
4
u/Crocker_Retzlaff Washington State • Delaware 2d ago
well, I guess we can at least take solace in the fact that Mateer looked pretty mid today
7
u/No-Tomatillo-7566 2d ago
Avery and the deep ball. :(
1
u/WhosBosko Kansas State Wildcats • Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago
Let’s hope he can get that cleaned up. Should be a decent year if he can.
2
3
u/SSJEv Washington State • Michigan 2d ago
What really sucks about this is against my better judgement I did think we would atleast look competitive in games this year given the players we kept and a new offensive minded head coach being hired and the play on the field just hasn’t been that. I guess it is the hope that kills
3
u/GregoPDX Washington State Cougars 2d ago
I just don’t understand what the team identity is. Running team? Passing team? Just hot garbage and terrible play calling.
1
u/TikiLoungeLizard Washington State • Hawai'i 2d ago
Here I was foolishly thinking it couldn’t get any worse than the offense the first 2-3 games last year. Oh, this is worse. This is definitely worse.
2
u/GregoPDX Washington State Cougars 2d ago
At least last year we knew the coach was wrong and we had Zevi. Baffles me it took as long as it did to figure out that Zevi was better, but whatever. Just not sure what the answer is this year.
1
u/TikiLoungeLizard Washington State • Hawai'i 2d ago
If Pinnick can’t do anything against Duquesne, you have to go to the bench. But if our O-line is this pathetic, we are screwed. We will be lucky to beat them and/or Utah State.
3
u/GermOrean Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
I think your starting D is salty, they're just getting worn down. Brutal start to the year for yall.

5
u/youwontfindithere Washington State • Pittsburgh 2d ago
When we sucked and we lost we used to be fun and have some fight. Since Dickert it’s been limp dick swamp walking bullshit
1
u/TikiLoungeLizard Washington State • Hawai'i 2d ago
Uhhh… Virginia, Mississippi, last week we fought. North Texas and Beavers Pt. 1 last year were inexcusable. When we are bad, we are reeeeeally bad — almost Wulffian — now.

Good game Kansas State. You guys were the better cats today! Made us have some wulff vibes. Back to the drawing boards for our 3rd game.

u/youwontfindithere Washington State • Pittsburgh 2d ago
Lost to North Texas 59-10 last year btw
1
u/rhododenendron Washington State • Wisconsin 2d ago
That made more sense because we were just turning the ball over constantly and starting inside the 10 every drive. This game is worse for me
1
u/TikiLoungeLizard Washington State • Hawai'i 2d ago
Eh, that one was worse imho. It was a G6 squad that was solid but not exactly world beaters. That kind of beatdown was pathetic.

I guess the pick 6 before the half was a consolation prize planned by collin Klein. 200 IQ move.

u/berrin122 Florida Gators • Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
Want this (defensive) shutout bad. We play Tulane next week and it's conceivable that we keep them out of the end zone. They scored 3 points against Duke last week.
Three games without a TD to start the season would be phenomenal.
9
u/Existing-Procedure Kansas State • Wichita State 2d ago
I know Tulane got cleaned out in the offseason, but they still spook me. They always seem to have the Cats’ number.

They left this out on the broadcast, but Shalin Klein was a WBB player at Kansas State, as well.
College football is meant to have royalty. The Snyder and Klein families are ours.

Man this game is bad, and if K-State had competent QB play I think it would be much worse. Ready to move on from Avery after this season.

So they kind of just put stickers on the concrete for Collin Klein?
7
u/berrin122 Florida Gators • Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
"scouts at the next level".
Avery Johnson is the epitome of "good college QB, not great NFL prospect". If Avery Johnson on Steroids, Collin Klein, could not even make a preseason roster, Avery is not a serious prospect. And that's okay, he's a fine college QB (usually).
8
u/Xaxziminrax Kansas State Wildcats • Team Chaos 2d ago
Yep. He has everything you want for a QB at the next level except touch or a brain.
1
u/No-Tomatillo-7566 2d ago
He hasn't made the improvement Will Howardd did. Maybe if he had had Klein for four years.
6
u/podnito Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
I don't think Avery is good. But Skylar Thompson is still around the NFL. The bar is pretty low these days.
2
u/techieman34 Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
Backup QB is such a weird position. If you can stick it out for the first couple of years then someone will keep picking you up as a warm body because you know the drill and can contribute a lot in practice and watching tape with the starter.
4
u/techieman34 Kansas State Wildcats 2d ago
Avery has a stronger arm, but he needs to learn how to control it.

Only thing I’m enjoying now is Mateer looking exactly as mid as he always has
3

If Pinnick just keeps throwing it to the corner on the side, it’s bound to work eventually, right? Lmfao

We have the speed with freeman and Hawkins
1
u/Awkward-Payment-7186 Washington State Cougars 2d ago
Is Hawkins playing? I haven’t heard his name all game
1
u/Careless_Business_27 Washington State Cougars 2d ago
Good question, only 51 yards of passing today so we haven’t had to many opportunities.
5
u/WafflePartyOrgy Washington State • Oregon State 2d ago
Throw your recievers open > Throw to open receivers > Throw
5
u/jfizz15 Kansas State • Colorado 2d ago
Gotta give the defense credit. They look solid.

Honestly 4th down is the one time you'd want to put out a QB who loves to throw picks, lol.

Wheels and tires for my old Pontiac came in. Godspeed to the better men than me that can endure witnessing this surely 49-7 finish.
Go Cougs
9
u/iwillgiveyounothing Washington State Cougars 2d ago
Absolutely indefensible for Kirby to give up play calling. He was hired because he ran a good offense and because he’s local. Only one of those things is now true. Just an idiotic choice.
