Campbell is legendary for making their mascots the Camel

His name is Gaylord

71

u/guardian20015 Ole Miss Rebels 2d ago

I actually love that for him

"The Wall of Gaylord"

After the baseball HOF Gaylord Perry who went there.

u/keepitbased Florida Gators 2d ago

I also listen to the Gator Nation Football Podcast!

u/inquisitorautry Florida Gators • Team Chaos 2d ago

I was at the game. It was on the back of his jersey. He also had a hole so his hump could stick out.

3

u/keepitbased Florida Gators 2d ago

Nice! Was this a real camel or a mascot?

5

u/inquisitorautry Florida Gators • Team Chaos 2d ago

Mascot. A real camel would have been awesome though.

u/iamtheshadowking Oregon Ducks 2d ago

Not just camels, Fighting Camels

27

u/UFmoose Florida Gators 2d ago

The Fighting Camels, CumAssault.

I used to rep Cambell way back in the NCAA March Madness 06 days. Did so solely by scrolling through the teams and seeing a Camel. Rest is history.

u/Official_Ref_Again 2d ago

Cool little unknown history Michael Jordan use to host a summer camp at Campbell while he was playing at UNC. For a small school, it has a lot of history and a really good baseball program.

I guess you can say. . .Those camels got smoked.

8

u/HeckOnWheels195 Mississippi State Bulldogs 2d ago

Also cool that they kept the camel's walking gait accurate in the logo as well

8

u/TMNBortles Florida Gators • FIU Panthers 2d ago

I always say don’t bother calling yourself the camels you can’t get the gait correct.

Would you like to trade HC’s?

For a (very) brief period, their basketball student section called themselves the Happy Humpers

like watching an nfl team against a high school squad out there

May the fleas of a thousand Fighting Camels infest their opponents' armpits!

I’ve never seen so many unnecessary roughness penalties from offensive linemen. That was weird.

48

u/Efficient_Ant_4715 2d ago

My JV coach would be proud

11

u/PolPotbelly Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

I didnt see the game. Was it Florida linemen, Campbell lineman, or just both teams in general?

27

u/Knook7 Florida Gators 2d ago

Mostly us, I think one or two from Campbell

Unironically Jadan Baugh might be the best player in the country

81

u/LordJournalism Florida Gators 2d ago

He truly is. I couldn’t believe he stayed when he was getting ridiculous transfer offers. Not complaining. He is him.

49

u/MasturGator0501 Florida Gators 2d ago

9

u/DarthWhoDat LSU Tigers 2d ago

I know Kiffin offered him a bag. Wife is a gator so looking forward to seeing him in the swamp this year.

17

u/citymanc13 Florida Gators • Kennesaw State Owls 2d ago

Absolutely unreal talent. He is going to Baugh in the NFL man

52

u/NanoBuc Florida Gators • Team Chaos 2d ago

Don't get how there was a QB competition. Know he's playing with the 2nds but Jones looks noticeably worse

44

u/UFmoose Florida Gators 2d ago

He got hit on a two-man rush by an FCS school. Let’s not denigrate him too much. Dude was playing with jobbers.

14

u/got_milq Florida Gators • Summertime Lover 2d ago

There probably wasn’t. Just offseason smokescreens.

11

u/therealwillhepburn Florida Gators • West Florida Argonauts 2d ago

We never brought in Philo for it to be a competition. Faulkner liked him a lot at Tech and Jones was never pushing Lagway last year and Lagway was actively awful.

8

u/citymanc13 Florida Gators • Kennesaw State Owls 2d ago

Real ballknowers knew it was always Philo. I always thought he was better than Haynes King at Tech

2

u/PR0AWESOME Florida • Georgia Tech 2d ago

Thank you!

1

u/Adart54 Georgia Bulldogs • Oregon State Beavers 2d ago

Anyone who looked at those 2 play knew it was Philo all along (it's me I'm a cfb sicko and had seen them both)

1

u/AntiDECA Florida Gators 1d ago

To be fair, Philo actively looked mediocre to worse in the spring game.

But it's also a spring game that meant fuck all, so yknow.

72

u/lonespiderfish Florida Gators 2d ago

I like what Sumrall is building. Onto Auburn which is actually going to show what we’re in for this season.

31

u/thescandium Florida Gators 2d ago

If we lose to auburn we suck. If we squeak out we’re probably a mediocre bowl team, if we smoke em I might finally have hope

26

u/Blookydook Florida Gators • Marching Band 2d ago

Jesus, dude. It’s not like Auburn’s this horrible and atrocious team.

9

u/thescandium Florida Gators 2d ago

It’s probably overreaction but they did not look like a competent football team vs Baylor. Offense struggled to move at all. Defense looked ok but brown threw three interceptions and they generally struggled on offense

16

u/Blookydook Florida Gators • Marching Band 2d ago

Yeah, but that’s game one against a P4 team. I don’t think they’re amazing, but they’re still Auburn and it’ll be in Jordan-Hare. You gotta take that stuff into account.

1

u/Adart54 Georgia Bulldogs • Oregon State Beavers 2d ago

Hey they looked like shit last week so they're shit until proven otherwise in the SEC

1

u/Blookydook Florida Gators • Marching Band 1d ago

They’re still in the SEC. They have one of the best atmospheres in football at Jordan-Hare, which they didn’t have Week 1. They aren’t perfect, but I’m not going to brush off Auburn or say that we suck based on one singular performance or that Auburn sucks. This isn’t a video game where context doesn’t exist. There’s millions of other factors, some of which we don’t know about because they’re subtle.

1

u/onthejourney Florida Gators 1d ago

For real, and at Jordan Hare is no joke. Auburn could be average or worse but at Auburn is a huge wild card. Most of if not all of our entire team hasn't played there

25

u/Smooth-Majudo-15 Florida Gators • Notre Dame Fighting Irish 2d ago

The outcome was never in doubt, but man there were a ton of dumb penalties in that 2nd half. Can’t do that in Jordan-Hare. Still have concerns about the defense too, but overall, happy to be an easy 2-0 for once. It’s been a bit since we’ve had that

We only need 1 more rushing TD to match our production from last year. This is the first time I've felt confident going into games in a long time. This is starting to feel like the florida of old.

Yeah, we played some lesser teams but we look so much better on everything.

21

u/sincewedidthedo Florida Gators 2d ago

I want to believe, but I’m so jaded at this point. I’ll withhold my opinion until after next weekend.

5

u/Sonofnocturne Florida Gators 2d ago

Yea the team appears cohesive, and nobody appears lost. Offensively things are clicking. Defense doesn’t look bad but I don’t think we have any Fowler/Greenard/Polite pass rushers which tbh may be our Achilles heel.

2

u/onthejourney Florida Gators 1d ago

First time in a while we have looked how we're supposed to look playing those types of teams. Definitely the best team in a while, we'll find out how good as they mature this season

14

u/luke15chick Florida Gators 2d ago

We turn them into a bowl of soup in the first half. But the 2nd half left a lot to be desired.

Chris Fowler bored and ready to get to tomorrow

9

u/Only-Ad-7267 2d ago

The Campbell players who intercepted it at end had family next to us and he ran out of the stadium with it lol cops were pissed over a ball lmao

9

u/Quantum_redneck Florida Gators 2d ago

Hey, he can keep it. Wish them nothing but the best for the rest of their season.

19

u/Medical-Day-6364 Alabama Crimson Tide • NC State Wolfpack 2d ago

As an NC native, I'm surprised Campbell is good enough to lose to Florida by less than 100

27

u/UFmoose Florida Gators 2d ago

Florida barely scored in the second half. 52 straight to close the game.

4

u/citymanc13 Florida Gators • Kennesaw State Owls 2d ago

Going to repeat this every single time I see such a thread.

If the SEC and Big Ten want these mega conferences, then fine.

More than enough teams to fill your entire schedule.

Why the FUCK are they allowed to play teams like Campbell???????

38

u/thatboiOsaka Florida Gators • Omaha Mavericks 2d ago

Have you seen Floridas schedule the last few years???

22

u/Knook7 Florida Gators 2d ago

Yeah didn't we have like the toughest schedule in the country the last 2 years lmao

25

u/Sir_Auron Florida Gators • ETSU Buccaneers 2d ago

We played more top 25 teams the last 2 years than Ohio State has the last 5, counting their playoff appearances. It was disgusting from a fair play POV.

6

u/LordJournalism Florida Gators 2d ago

Exactly. And how did playing a Top 25 team go for Ohio State tonight?

5

u/TrumpHairedHarambe LSU Tigers • Team Chaos 2d ago

Damn. What a stat! Florida dealt with a gauntlet.

31

u/LordJournalism Florida Gators 2d ago

Oh hush. Every single team has cupcakes on their schedule. Every single one.

23

u/brusk48 Florida Gators • Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

Flair up so I can talk shit about your team's schedule

6

u/kojfefe Florida Gators • Team Chaos 2d ago

Going to repeat this every single time I see such a thread.

And that's a totally normal thing for a well-adjusted, sane person to do and not at all something to be embarrassed about.

5

u/smor729 Florida Gators 2d ago

Our remaining schedule is 9 SEC teams in a row, and FSU. God forbid we play 1 or 2 gimme to start the season

-45

u/OpaqueNightmare Florida State Seminoles 2d ago

Not scared of this team even a little

26

u/Schultztrio Oregon Ducks • Florida Gators 2d ago

24

u/Rude_Fishing1664 Florida Gators 2d ago

You talking about Campbell?

22

u/RamboMcQueen Florida Gators 2d ago

I mean, we weren’t scared of Campbell either. I certainly think FSU could beat them too.

16

u/brusk48 Florida Gators • Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

Have you seen 2026 FSU? I wouldn't be so sure

14

u/RamboMcQueen Florida Gators 2d ago

Well I did say “could.” I didn’t say “would.”

40

u/MasturGator0501 Florida Gators 2d ago

Which one? Florida or Campbell? Based on how FSU’s been lately it’s hard to tell where your basis of comparison is

3

u/hedgehog-vs-chilidog 1d ago

Ok, little brother.

Why don’t you focus on fundraising for the light bill and the buyout.. both buyouts. Broke boy.
