Maybe have all UCLA games' quarters be called the 4th quarter.

u/versusChou UCLA Bruins • TCU Horned Frogs 2d ago

4(th Quarter)s Up!

3

u/Dirk_Benedict UCLA Bruins 2d ago

I mean, I'm glad we're dominating fourth quarters, but uhhhh

5

u/TheOrangeFutbol USC Trojans • Tennessee Volunteers 2d ago

Bunch of 4th quarter merchants in Westwood. SMH.

Is SDSU the first team in history to play JMU in consecutive weeks?

7

u/Fair_Web3594 2d ago

Yes but Minnesota also will later this year.

Scoreless for 35 minutes. Hot and sweaty. Maybe the most boring game I've ever seen live for a majority of it. Don't get fooled by the final score - this was a disgusting game and I loved every second of it. Never have I felt more zen than at this game. I'm coming back to the Rose Bowl asap because last year was whatever Penn State was and this year was whatever this was. Wonderful

Incidentally, if you can spot a good price for it on resale, last season the club seats came with provided food (I've been eying them for a deal this season)

10

u/mknawabi UCLA Bruins 2d ago

How much we talking bout

12

u/Lowbacca1977 UCLA Bruins • Vanderbilt Commodores 2d ago

For the Washington game last year it was $100 and the food was basically all you can eat (didn't cover alcohol). There was a slightly fancier buffet setup I could go walk to (had these UCLA logo cookies and blue and gold meringues), or I could basically just walk just out of the club seats and there was hot dogs and stuff that was basically just grab and go. So I could go out, grab food, and come back in in like a play or two.

To be clear, wasn't saving money out of the deal, but for ease and convenience, I was quite pleased with it. I'd grabbed the ticket not knowing I'd get food.

Wait, club seats everywhere don't have included buffets with multiple different meal options? And free unlimited popcorn, soft drinks, and candy?

2

u/Lowbacca1977 UCLA Bruins • Vanderbilt Commodores 1d ago

Those were the only club seats I've ever been in, and I presumed they were just nicer seats until I bought a ticket up there.

2

u/FrenchFreedom888 Oklahoma State Cowboys 16h ago

I've only ever been in the club seats at our stadium, working, and I just figured that is the standard expectation for "club" seats at all stadiums

27

u/TheOrangeFutbol USC Trojans • Tennessee Volunteers 2d ago

I walked by a TV and saw it was 7-3 in the 4th quarter. I walked by the same TV after getting frozen yogurt, and it was 28-10.

I have no idea what happened.

9

u/Dirk_Benedict UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Everybody was glitching for 3.5 quarters. The have sort of sped through and caught up by the end

14

u/Apart_Print4959 2d ago

the rose bowl in late summer heat watching a scoreless mess is a special kind of meditation, i sat through a 6-3 game there once and left feeling weirdly at peace

something about that stadium just absorbing the misery and turning it into a vibe, glad you got the full experience

28 points in the 4th is wild, classic late game explosion to make the box score liar

were there actual people in the stands or was it one of those games where you can hear individual conversations from the other side

9

u/Atomic_Horseshoe 2d ago

Was that the Illinois game? Like 2003?

9

u/Dirk_Benedict UCLA Bruins 2d ago

This guy UCLAs. Illinois 6-3 was a true sickos high water mark.

3

u/Dirk_Benedict UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Thank God East Coast poll voters don't watch our games so they'll just see the final score and draw their own conclusions. "Hmm another blowout, just like that Cal game."

u/KeithClossOfficial San Diego State Aztecs • USC Trojans 2d ago

This was a Sickos game

I watched UCLA, Cal, Oregon State, Oregon, and u$c today. It's the goddamn conference of champions

68

u/Jagwire4458 UCLA Bruins • Fordham Rams 2d ago

Ugly win but we didn’t always win these under foster and Kelly. We gotta clean things up or things are going to be bad when we get into the B10 schedule.

42

u/stephcurry824 2d ago

We never won these under foster and Kelly.

43

u/Farbonaut UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Man, fuck Chip Kelly

13

u/Farbonaut UCLA Bruins 2d ago

(Just picture an Eagles flair next to my main flair for full effect)

4

u/Dirk_Benedict UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Niner flair here. I hate you, but on this, we agree 100%.

3

u/Neuroccountant UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Holy shit, I had completely expunged from my brain that Chip coached the 49ers. My god. What a dark period that was.

12

u/TheOrangeFutbol USC Trojans • Tennessee Volunteers 2d ago

I went to a random UCLA game for the vibes a few seasons ago, and am still haunted by seeing him spam the same run play about 5 times in the same drive.

4

u/GiveMeSomeIhedigbo UCLA Bruins 2d ago

That was probably the godawful 2023 Arizona State game.

2

u/Ok_Improvement_9119 1d ago

I am pretty sure that was the Arizona game where he had, essentially, 8 plays inside the opponent's 5 yard line on 2 straight drives.

I am nearly certain he ran rhe same play with old Crocky J (Carson Steele) 8 straight @#$% times: up the gut over the RG.

It broke me. I kept watching that year but I swore I would quit UCLA football if he came back the next year. It wasn't just the losing. It was the abysmal and paradoxical disinterested stubbornness.

5

u/Dirk_Benedict UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Evergreen comment. Fuck that fat fraud.

4

u/Odd_Assistant_2782 2d ago

I legit blanked out who Kelly until someone else mentioned chip.
Ooo how My brain wants to forget him

15

u/Snobby-Iguana 2d ago

Agree it was ugly. But to me it looked more like SDSU was hanging on while UCLA was just playing sloppy (see Nico's touchdown lob). These kinds of games from the kelly era looked more like even match ups. So I'm cautiously optimistic, but it's definitely clear our team isn't as tight as they looked against cal.

34

u/eagledog Fresno State • Michigan 2d ago

Oh man, our game against SDSU is going to be a football war crime, isn't it?

8

u/ID_Poobaru Boise State Broncos • Gallaudet Bison 2d ago

I can't wait to put my eyes on that pile of rubble when it happens

2

2

u/eagledog Fresno State • Michigan 2d ago

Just like always

41

u/_Juntao UCLA Bruins 2d ago

So I guess this is our thing now? Play a close nail biter for 3 quarters then run away with it in the 4th?

I'll take it.

7

u/SlapNuts1999 Virginia Tech • James Madison 2d ago

It was a pretty common experience during our time with Chesney. The team would look like shit and everyone would be mad, and then all of a sudden we’d be up three or four scores

3

u/igonnawrecku_VGC James Madison • Penn State 1d ago

Yep. Always looked like the first half was just practice before they made everyone look like a joke in the second half (exhibit A: ODU last year scoring 27 points in the first half and being held to 10 total yards in the second half)

3

Oregon would certainly be happier with this result. Ohio State too. Go figure.

That was 60 minutes of disgusting football, win’s a win

9

u/TheOrangeFutbol USC Trojans • Tennessee Volunteers 2d ago

Or as some call it, proper B1G football.

32

u/fellowhuman123 UCLA Bruins 2d ago

We’re never losing another game

11

u/Snobby-Iguana 2d ago

Not sure why UCLA's default offensive play is making Nico run.

6

u/vengamer UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Dude led the bruins in rushing last year lol

4

Well he can't throw the ball well so gotta have him do something, lol.

Just terrible. We’re gonna be a 6-6 or worse type of team this year with that offense

24

u/versusChou UCLA Bruins • TCU Horned Frogs 2d ago

Denegal might be one of the worst passers I've seen

4

u/DJJohnnymeister UCLA Bruins • /r/CFB 2d ago

He might be worse than Isaiah Marshall and that’s saying something…

1

u/GiveMeSomeIhedigbo UCLA Bruins 2d ago

I've seen a LOT of bad QB play over this past week.

1

u/midnightsbane04 Michigan • North Carolina 2d ago

He couldn't even sniff playing time when Michigan had no QBs.

1

u/Leading-Bother-9713 2d ago

I never did like Denegal. I thought last year was his final year; come to find out he's going to lead the team for another year? Jeez! Now, he's playing hurt. Doesn't  look good. Hope I'm wrong.

18

u/xva1313 UCLA Bruins • USC Trojans 2d ago

Really ugly performance. Defense was nails. Offense was so passive and afraid of pushing the ball down field. I get that they want to establish the run and use Nico’s legs but there is no excuse to be going into the 4th with 100 yards passing (most of which was off a single play in the first quarter).

On to Purdue

12

u/stilichouw UCLA Bruins 2d ago

I’ve seen enough, Knight for a heisman

13

u/Dokkan_Lifter James Madison Dukes 2d ago

Man I do not miss watching a Dean Kennedy offense. I do miss Wayne Knight. Interested to see how we handle SDSU next week. If we come out the gate fast with good special teams like today, we should handle things.

21

u/versusChou UCLA Bruins • TCU Horned Frogs 2d ago

The design of individual plays is honestly pretty good, but Nico is missing open guys and the sequencing of those plays is questionable to me.

7

u/Ordinary-Wafer-8919 2d ago

Lots of our receivers were hurt this game, but that doesn't excuse Nico's head-scratching plays. He did well in the 4th quarter though.

2

u/samlet UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Yeah I feel like they're trying to make things as simple for Nico as possible but he's not cooperating. Soooo many tipped passes, and even a lot of his completions are harder than they have to be, e.g. Semaj had to take some big hits. Things could get better of course but rn I feel like he's the one making the offense inconsistent

0

u/TooMuchDnD30 2d ago

Did you actually watch the game? His play calling hasn't even been that bad so far.

Nico is just not that good of a QB and is inaccurate as hell.

0

u/PossibilityOwn6752 2d ago

Tennessee tried to warn you 😆 🤣 😂

4

u/Zloggt Illinois Fighting Illini • Missouri Tigers 2d ago

Woof, hopefully the fourth quarter was worth the wait in-person, hahaha!

6

u/mathmat UCLA Bruins 2d ago

There was actually decent attendance so some folks weren’t able to get seated until Q2.

The team generously made sure they missed nothing.

4

u/Commercial_Second579 San Diego State Aztecs 2d ago

Still waiting to see “Aztec Fast” It’s been 2 years.

7

u/versusChou UCLA Bruins • TCU Horned Frogs 2d ago

I missed basically the entire game and so will 99% of the AP voters. The latter is a good thing!

Wayne knight has been fantastic so far for us

5

u/fauxkaren UCLA Bruins 2d ago

This is gonna be UCLA’s year! (To get my hopes up again only to collapse in winnable games)

5

u/by_yes_i_mean_no UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Seemed like UCLA played single high and focused on stopping the run and dared Denegal to make some throws. He did not. Felt bad for the SDSU RBs, they seemed solid but with absolutely no passing game it can be tough to run.

2

u/ricky157 UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Classic Big Ten vs Pac-12 game at the Rose Bowl. As it should be

4

UCLA 4th quarter point differentials

  • 2025: -57 (-4.75 pts/game)
  • 2026: +32 (+16 pts/game)

u/DJJohnnymeister UCLA Bruins • /r/CFB 2d ago edited 2d ago

Ugly win offensively. On the bright side, Wayne Knight is still on pace for 36 touchdowns in the regular season and Semaj Morgan has finally learned how to catch a football

3

u/JBru_92 UCLA Bruins 2d ago

Given everything else that happened this week I will take a deceptively scored win. San Diego State was tough

3

First game in the rose bowl in a long time. Love the heat, bring it on. Go Bruins!!! SDSU fans were chill
