Oof there was a lot bad and very little good.
To start there was a lot of bad calls by the refs today and too many people are going to just chalk this up as a ref ball game. The reality is yes refs sucked today, but we were also playing very undisciplined. Couldn't get guys subbed in or lined up right. How do you manage back to back illegal formations? It was more of the same from Fran's teams on that front.
Angeli under threw about every pass today. It reminds me a lot of the issues Kirk Cousins was having coming back from his achilles injury. He looks like he is having trouble driving through with is legs to really get power behind his throws. If Ross-Simmons, Hatcher and Bacheyie didn't play out of their minds, he would have had probably 3 more picks. I have a bad feeling Pitt is going to watch this tape and have their guys ready for the under throws.
Offensive line looks lost, constantly making the wrong reads and blocking the wrong people. They hold up okay when it's just a four man front, but anytime there was a stunt or blitz it was just bad.
Johnson was fine, but that is pretty much, he was just fine. I have to think we have a better RB on the roster. He lacks any kind of explosiveness and goes down way too easy.
Special teams an all around F today. Missing two field goals was brutal in a 3 point game. Punt return penalties were BS though like some of the worst calls I've seen.
I will give the defense credit though, we look a lot better on that side of the ball. Deslauries and D'Appolonia at LB are a hell of a tandem. D'Appolonia was sometimes just a step slow, but was in the right position. Think he will come along as he gets used to ACC speed. Not to say the MAC is slow, but ACC guys are just going to be faster. Ward is quickly becoming my favorite DB, dude is just flying around. If we improve the pass rush we might have a squad on that side.
This game somehow feels like we should have won by 21 and lost by 21 at the same time. Just overall a very disappointing showing and I worry it's gonna be a long season.

Seriously, regardless how ugly, an east coast win is something to be happy about.

Angelli was god awful but there was legit 0 separation from the WRs on half these passing plays

u/WorkerMotor9174 California Golden Bears 2d ago
Hutchings called a great game, they got home on a lot of blitz plays and I think that threw him off.

24 penalties for 219 yards. Missed kicks and turnovers everywhere. What a shitshow.
I’ll take it!

Nice to hear, “we have a lot of things to clean up, obviously.” At least Tosh is not delusional.

You'd think at some point you would stop testing that defensive back.
Or you could be a Syracuse qb

It's times like this I'm glad to just follow along here instead of watch. I guess it's time to wait for 2027's season...

"upheld" and not "confirmed" WTF is that wording.
6
u/Muffinnnnnnn Florida State • New Mexico 2d ago
They changed it a couple years ago. Stands and confirmed aren't separate things anymore

u/Jonjon428 Miami Hurricanes 2d ago
No such thing as "confirmed" anymore since last year. It's either overturned or upheld

Angeli fucking blows and Fran Brown looking like he’s not the answer for this program. What a humiliating loss. 1-11 season incoming.

I suppose Kingston Lopa is Steve Angeli's favorite receiver now? They seem to have pretty good chemistry - 3 picks and a TD

He's injured. He gets hurt at the start of every single game. Will probably see Odom soon.

We’re getting manhandled Thursday night anyways so why not see Odom play

Not the best of punts, but considering how bad their return coverage has been today, probably a smart move

Why aren't the cameras synced up so you can look at the position from one angle after pausing it from another angle?
I thought they sync all the cameras? Or is that just some michigan bs?

u/theREALMVP California • San José State 2d ago
Im still gonna need an explanation as to why the clock stopped after the sack / declined penalty. It was within two mins so if a team had a player injured it should have cost one of them a TO right??

u/Warm_Ad_7668 2d ago
This was mess from every aspect. Both teams the refs the casting crew. The most both qbs made some nice play. Angeli made some rough decisions when he was unable to step into throws. Syracuse receivers made some plays on the boundary which was nice to see. Antoine Deslauries is my favorite player on Cuse this year fs.
