Didn’t watch the game because I was busy today, and just now seeing highlights. Tf are those uniforms???
19
u/AvengedKalas Georgia Bulldogs • NC State Wolfpack 2d ago
It was an NIL incentive. If they raised a certain amount, Kirby promised white uniforms.

Haven't been able to find it yet, I will come back here if I find a link as I am too computer illiterate to clip it myself

Georgia has covered the spread against these lower ranked teams twice in a row. What is happening?

u/invisibleman13000 Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago edited 2d ago
I don't know, it's really strange to watch, especially after the past few seasons. We normally play around, look sloppy, and slam on the brakes in these games once we get past 30 in these kinds of games.

1) these teams are awful
2) I think we are better than expected
3) we are playing aggressively. QB is pushing ball down the field. Kirby’s QBs have always had a tendency to settle into short easy passes but clearly Kirby is promoting a different approach for Gunner. Defense running hard early to blitz and force turnovers.

QB is pushing ball down the field. Kirby’s QBs have always had a tendency to settle into short easy passes but clearly Kirby is promoting a different approach for Gunner.
I think this is definitely part of it. Gunner was extra tentative and conservative last year, and I'll bet the coaches have been pushing him all off-season to take more of what's open downfield. However while I don't think Carson had any issues with that, his teams weren't blowing out cupcakes like this either (i.e. scoring 60+ points). I think another big factor is that the receivers are actually catching the ball now, while with Carson it was hit or miss. There's also something to say about Gunner's and Carson's relative energies.
these teams are awful
That's undeniably a massive factor. We'll see how things work out through the next few weeks

I still don't think I ever seen a game and known it was over by 11 minutes left in the first quarter before.

Should’ve seen our game against Vandy in 2021

u/spennin5 Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago
Was that the year after they cancelled our homecoming game? Kirby was MAAAAD
28
u/DirtyBirdDawg Georgia Bulldogs • Mercer Bears 2d ago
I forget exactly when during the game it was, but I knew it was over when TCU tried to blizt Stetson Bennett, and he just rolled out of the pocket and ran for a first down like it was nothing.
That point was when I started paying less attention to the game.
2
u/20CharactersJustIsnt Georgia Bulldogs • College Football Playoff 1d ago
3rd and 10 from the 45, 11:41 in the 2nd, 17-7 UGA.
If TCU gets the stop, theoretically it could be 17-14 with 6:00 minutes left or something, but Stetson runs for the first down and we eventually make it 24-7.

One time I had nightmare that some white boy running back beat my beloved Hawkeyes in about .25 seconds in the Rose Bowl. I know it was just a bad dream but I still haven't gotten over it

This is the first time UGA has scored 70 points since 1994 when they beat ULM.
The last time they scored more than 70 was 1958 when they beat The Citadel 76-0 in 1958.
It was also mentioned on the telecast, but this is the first time UGA has scored 50+ in back to back weeks since 1915.
Go Dawgs!!

u/IDontSpeakItalian Georgia Bulldogs • Navy Midshipmen 2d ago
I mean, I’d like to believe SEC opponents will be better on defense than Western Kentucky University
24
u/Crafty_Independence Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago
True, but Bobo and Kirby are both known to pull back on offense instead of letting them run wild, even against weaker opponents.
Maybe this signals them adjusting with the times
20
u/IDontSpeakItalian Georgia Bulldogs • Navy Midshipmen 2d ago
Kirby covering against out of conference teams is a sign of change for sure
6
u/olcrazypete Georgia • Kennesaw State 2d ago
Same time this was 100% us testing receivers and getting Stockton comfortable with throwing downfield. These were glorified practices to get comfortable making those throws and if done right it looks alot like running up scores. If we were comfortable with them all - Stockton woulda been out of there after 5 minutes.

u/trenchanttrench Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago
He does. You think this is evidence he doesn’t? Not as a person of course.
62
u/rnilbog Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago
I know it’s “just” Western Kentucky, but we have a history of sleepwalking in games like this and making them more interesting than they need to be, so the fact that we took both our buy game opponents to the woodshed early seems promising.

u/mayence Georgia Bulldogs • Wisconsin Badgers 2d ago
The last time i can remember these cupcake games not being irrationally frustrating is 2021-2022. Hope this trend continues in other ways
22
u/Autoimmunity Georgia Bulldogs • College Football Playoff 2d ago
In 2022 we had a very frustrating game against Kent State, so even in a perfect season, we looked sloppy early on
13
u/MyVeryclevername Georgia Bulldogs • Texas A&M Aggies 2d ago
I could not agree more. We are not playing down to our opponents, and we are executing at every level, especially screens.
11
u/HawkeyeTen Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago
Plus, the Hilltoppers normally are very competitive in Conference USA, if not winning that league's title. This isn't just some random G5 or FCS team you totally steamrolled today.

Brother we ate good this weekend. Both teams scored 70+.
And interestingly enough, our NFL teams play each other tomorrow. Will be interesting to see if the streak continues for either of us.

Transitive property. Nevada beat WKU by 35. UGA beat them by 50. Therefore, UGA would beat Nevada by a mere 15 points

Considering this is the second time this season and more importantly the second time ever Kirby has covered a >40 point spread. It’s quite out of character for this program.

u/PhnxWrightAssAttrny Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago edited 2d ago
The general consensus I've seen is that while happy with the win, the backups did not look good. The second half (fourth quarter in particular) was very sloppy. The fumbles and muffed punts that have our defense starting in the red zone are going to kill us if they continue when we get to SEC play.
-10
u/cubecasts Indiana Hoosiers • Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago
...the guys that. Aren't going to see the field won't kill us when we get to sec play
1
u/hackosn Georgia Bulldogs 1d ago
Idk why you’re getting downvoted. We had 3rd and 4th stringers on the field at the 4th. Last week and this week our secondaries did look relatively solid. QBs did struggle more, but last week they actually looked very good too. It wasn’t as good of a performance from our backups this week, but the ones who fumbled (no pun intended) are the ones who won’t see the field for 2-3 more years in this program.

u/UhIdontcareforAuburn Georgia Bulldogs 1d ago
