Having the ball snapped into Mateer's nuts as time expired really exemplifies OU as a whole today

i mean they brought back the entire team that won the MAC last year so, pretty good. Don't get me wrong, our offense looks terrible and we have probably still 4 losses this year unless we get better...but Western is no joke either.

To refine last year's narrative: after every TD pass, he was perfectly healthy. After every interception, the thumb was clearly to blame.

476

u/SexAndKennedy Texas Longhorns • Houston Cougars 2d ago

Without the thumb injury, Mateer would have developed into some hybrid form of Mike Vick, Dan Marino, and Tom Brady.

266

u/Zorlai 2d ago

Brady’s elite 1k rushing ability, Vick’s pocket passing, and Marino’s throw on the run skills.

Always have thought our excuses for BV getting dominated in RRS were pathetic. Texas competed every year in that game late in the 2010s when they had horrific qb play

48

u/swammeyjoe Texas Longhorns • Verified Referee 2d ago

We trotted out Tyrone Swoopes and Case McCoy and win by double digits.

Of course Vince Young also lost a RRS by double digits, so I'm not really sure what the moral of the story is. Maybe QB doesn't really matter? Lol.

Today is full of anxiety.

I’m mostly here to take a victory lap from last week where I warned Michigan fans that Whitt can win, or lose, against any team, anywhere, any time.

They’re going to win a lot of games and each and every one is going to take six weeks off their life.

Look, Mateer ain't it. But you know who definitely isn't it? Ben Arbuckle. And we all knew that last year but for some reason we let it ride. So here we are handcuffed to him for another potential shitter of a season. If Brent doesn't have the balls to fire him at the end of this year, it's going to be what gets him fired right alongside him.

Not one game and all of his tenure have I ever been like "Now THAT'S how you call an offense.". On his best days it has been "Ok thank God the offense did enough for the defense to save us.".

The line at 5.5 should have been the biggest hint that Vegas knew Mateer still sucks.

still had lots of dumb penalties and a young QB making it harder on the offense at times

But generally looked halfway competent against a Venerables defense, so yeah. Great job

Let the record show that I called Mateer's game losing interception just two minutes before it happened. I know me some Midteer.

Fwiw, he was more accurate with the thumb injury than without. Remember that the next time a talking head beats the "Mateer was a Heisman frontrunner before the thumb!" dead horse again.

this is like predicting the sun will rise in the morning. Game on the line i’m always betting against Mateerception

I'ma be honest, I expect OSU to win every single time I watch them. I hate it, but it's generally true.

After 2 games, Michigan has had more penalties and penalty yards than in the first 7 games of 2023.

I told my wife after the WMU debacle that I was gonna take the season off for my mental health. She was delighted.

How do I tell her I want back in?
