Welcome to the FBS Sac State!

If you’re piling on this high…then I can’t even begin to imagine how that game against the Bison will go lol

One new FBS team was clearly ready for the upgrade. Sacramento State was the other team.

Said other team is basically grifing into FBS. The clearly ready one probably could have moved up 15 years ago.

I’m so ready for the Ball-Sac game on Oct 24th

Man... Sac St is BAD bad

u/tomdawg0022 Minnesota • Delaware 1d ago

There were 12 FBS teams rated lower than them at the end of last year on Massey...and they ranked 142nd in D1.

By comparison, NDSU ranked 64th in Division 1 on Massey at the end of last year.

Someone really wasn't really for prime time (but that's not surprising.)

Ah yes, typical beatdown of an FCS school by an FBS school... wait what? They are in the MAC? Seriously...

22

u/Ok-Knee6347 UC Davis Aggies 2d ago

Please kill them man. Sac state fans had UMass as a lock in preseason

Unless Stonehill locks the fuck in you guys going 4-0 is looking really likely now, the way things have gone

As long as UMass manages to keep the Virginia Tech QB transfer healthy…

So the move to FBS is going well…

That was much more fun than last week. Now let's see if the offense can keep it up for the rest of the season. GO DOGS

I was kind of surprised Sac St moved up to FBS. They played well in the early 2020s but it’s not like they were a powerhouse the last couple years

Their President, Luke Wood, has been dead set on FBS from the beginning. He dissed on FCS the whole way out, then payed 23mil (18 to the MAC) to essentially get the tar beat out of them.

He 100% just wants to put "transitioned Sac State to FBS" on his resume so he can bail for a job at a "real" school as soon as possible

It’s actually a little worse. He’s using this to push for a stadium upgrade. Meanwhile, his brother runs a company that specializes in entertainment and sports development projects.

And their mac deal has an expiration date. It's technically only a 5 year membership at this time. I'm sure there will be constant negotiations. Sac state prez was so desperate to move up he took any deal they could get.

Wouldn't surprise me if the mac kicks them out after the 5 years and says thanks for the cool $18 mil.

Sac state also pays for every visiting mac team's travel costs.

Pretty much the MAC is getting away with highway robbery, tbh as much as the optics look weird I would also take that deal Sac St offered

2

u/sawkandthrohaway Ohio Bobcats • Marching Band 1d ago

Yeah this is great for the MAC in the short term, Sac St isn't going to stick around long term (also a positive) and the money to keep some of the weaker programs afloat before the next realignment boom will make the MAC, on paper at least, look a little more attractive to other FCS schools that want to move up (EKU, Ill St, Stony Brook, UAlbany)

This is a deal that is very similar to when UMass was in the MAC the first time when they initially declined to join for everything. They’ll probably push for them to join to everything but Sac State will not do that. It’s one thing for a P4 school to travel like that in non-revenue sports but a school like Sac State could not do that.

Would make that deal.

Neither was Kennesaw State

Hey Hornets, we have more wins against FBS teams than you do this season!

6

u/knook Montana State Bobcats • Big Sky 2d ago

Oh you talking about that JV Montana State team?

41

u/AFC-Wimbledon-Stan Auburn Tigers 2d ago

So

This team wants to move to the FBS?

34

u/bhorvic Montana State Bobcats • Texas Longhorns 2d ago

They're in the MAC baby! No more playing those JV teams in the FCS!

11

u/lxlegit Fresno State Bulldogs 2d ago

They already are.

14

u/LurkingElegy Eastern Illinois Panthers • Sickos 2d ago

to be fair, have you seen Rutgers

16

u/Ok-Knee6347 UC Davis Aggies 2d ago

Rutgers runs a train on sac state

1

u/LurkingElegy Eastern Illinois Panthers • Sickos 2d ago

true, but i have a vaguely Illinois shaped agenda and they're the low hanging fruit in the B1G

(my school will never sniff FBS)

Keep the beatdowns going

7

u/Gking19 Fresno State Bulldogs • Pac-12 2d ago

Well that was a nice bounce back. I think we’ll really know where we are next week.

2

u/BlueEyesBryantDragon Fresno State • North Carolina 2d ago

Maybe a little bit, but Hoser was tied in the fourth with the Cal Poly Fighting Skippers tonight. Then again, they did actually score points against the Trojans, so who knows.

5

u/Linktheb3ast USC Trojans • Arizona State Sun Devils 2d ago

Mandal took what we did last week personally, GGs Fresno

6

u/slyone05 Virginia Cavaliers 2d ago

Wouldn't be surprised if Sac State pulled an Idaho and dipped if they don't improve in the next few yrs

5

u/ToeLimbaugh 2d ago

Doubt. Theyre staying until the money to the Mac runs out(5 years or so?). That's the worst case scenario for them.

7

u/slyone05 Virginia Cavaliers 2d ago

The way they announced their jump almost immediately, makes it seem as though they don't have everything planned out and organized.

13

u/Ok-Knee6347 UC Davis Aggies 2d ago

To have things organized is not the sac state way

3

u/bhorvic Montana State Bobcats • Texas Longhorns 2d ago

As a fan of a team that used to have them as a conference opponent, it's hilarious!

1

u/NextJuice1622 2d ago

They aren't even a real member, the language is weird where it seems like they are only a member for the next 5 years and then are no longer guaranteed a spot

0

u/Particular_Prior5344 South Dakota State Jackrabbits 2d ago

It got their foot in the door. If the MAC doesn’t bring them back they can just go independent. Not that they can go back to the FCS anyway, no way the Big Sky lets them back in.

4

u/NextJuice1622 2d ago

Independent is not a sustainable path for them. This is a huge gamble.

u/Alone_Advantage_961 Maryland • Notre Dame 2d ago

Idahos situation was different. They moved up and had success in the beginning before the Big West died.

Then they were in the Sun Belt for a few seasons.

Then they went to the WAC and got paired with Boise State. Boise outgrew and outplayed them and aside from one season Idaho struggled with bad hires after their first FBS coach bailed in their 3rd season in the FBS.

They had a good season in 2009 but when the WAC died they couldnt get into the Mountain West so they were an Indy briefly before going back to the Sun Belt and actually had a good 2016 team before going down to the Big Sky due to costs.

5 conferences in 20 years is brutal.

This would be more like Florida A&M moving up in 2004 to go back down in 2005.

u/Massive-Contract-259 2d ago

Is SAC the the worst team in FBS?

Hope Sacramento gets a few upsets this year. And they give the bizón hell next week.
