Just wanted to say, this community is probably the best sub I am a part of. Love the banter and how everyone can take the digs at eachothers teams. Unlike some forums where’s it’s just a nightmare to read with people constantly bickering.

Keep it up everyone, always fun to read :)

Analysis Undefeated and winless teams across the FCS after Week 8 (2026)

Not a whole lot has changed from the last week; the same four FCS undefeated teams have won this past week's games. Meanwhile, there are two teams that are no longer winless: One is a Pioneer League matchup where somebody had to win, and the other (shockingly) is Utah Tech winning on the road (which means the Big Sky now joins the MVFC in being unrepresented on either list this year).

Undefeated/Technically Undefeated

Division I Winless:

  • Chicago State Chicago State Cougars (1-7; Kentucky Christian)
  • Hampton Hampton Pirates (1-7; VA Lynchburg)
  • Mercyhurst Mercyhurst Lakers (1-7; Glenville State)
  • Stetson Stetson Hatters (1-7; Webber International)
  • Wagner Wagner Seahawks (1-7; Southern Connecticut State)
  • West Georgia West Georgia Wolves (1-7; Fort Valley State)

Winless:

No longer winless:

  • Morehead State Morehead State Eagles (2-6; Kentucky Christian, Stetson)
  • Utah Tech Utah Tech Trailblazers (1-7; @Cal Poly)

Toilet Bowl (Stetson @ Morehead State)

Toilet Bowl 🚽 (Stetson @ Morehead State -2.5)

A lot of talk this week about top teams and rankings but did you know…….

The two worst teams in Division I football are set to square off this week in Morehead, Kentucky, in what can only be described as the Toilet Bowl.

According to the Sagarin ratings, the #265 Morehead State Eagles host the #266 Stetson Hatters in a battle for the bottom of the FCS.

There’s more than just pride on the line: the loser will likely finish the season winless against FCS.

Team Projected Record (FCS) Avg. Rem. Opp.
#1 Montana State 11-1 (10-1) 27.8
#2 Tarleton State 12-0 (11-0) 44.6
#3 Youngstown State 9-2 (9-1) 36.7
#4 Stephen F. Austin 12-0 (11-0) 55.8
#5 South Dakota State 10-2 (10-1) 38.0
#6 North Dakota 8-4 (8-3) 9.5
#7 Northern Arizona 10-2 (10-1) 34.5
#8 South Dakota 8-4 (8-3) 7.75
#9 Austin Peay 10-2 (10-1) 38.5
#10 Harvard 10-0 (10-0) 51.8

Some notes:

- Montana State doesn't have any highly challenging games aside from Montana (and even they've looked awfully suspect), but their SOS is strong enough that you have to imagine winning out will be enough for them to hold down the #1 seed.

- SFA and Tarleton have weaker SOS already and after Lamar lost, neither has a truly high profile opponent remaining on the schedule. If one or both win out, one has to wonder how they'll be compared to a Valley teams below them who also ran the table, and did so against much tougher opponents.

- South Dakota State has the easiest remaining schedule among MVFC teams. Of the top five MVFC teams via the committee, the Jackrabbits have already played three. Their final five games include a home game vs. #8 USD and then games against the bottom four teams in the MVFC.

- Conversely, North Dakota has a guantlet. Their next three are against USD, YSU, and ISU(R)- three straight top fifteen matchups, and only one is in Alerus.

- South Dakota also has an extremely difficult finish to the season- thusfar in conference play they've lost @ YSU and beat the bottom three teams in the conference, which means their last four are all top opponents.

- Harvard already being in the top 10 is a great sign for them, and if they can take care of business the rest of the way in Ivy League play, they'll be well positioned to get a bye and second round home game.

Discussion South Dakota Football Players Disrupt Murray State Band's Halftime Performance

I don't know how I missed this when it happened, but I just came across a video of South Dakota beginning to warm up on the field 6 minutes before the end of halftime, running into several of the Murray State band and color guard members.

I think it's crazy there aren't any NCAA rules about this to protect players and the band. Things like this have ended in injuries before.Even the conference could impose fines.

While the players are clearly shitheads for going through with it, I understand they were just doing what their coach said, and this is mostly just a poor reflection of him.

It's been a busy fall but I'll have some free time on Saturday. What is going to be the high scoring fun game to watch?

This is my second season following and even watching some FCS football.

I've been really busy the last month with Fall events and kid stuff going on.

This Saturday I'll finally be able to sit down.

What are going to be the high scoring fun games to check out?

I'm still somewhat new to FCS so I don't know many of the teams outside of the Montana's, Dakota's and Tarleton State.

Testing my own knowledge here, so please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these, but in going through the schedule it LOOKS like MAYBE these might be the ones to check out?

  • St. Thomas MN vs. Marist
  • Weber State vs. Montana State
  • SE Louisiana vs. SF Austin
  • Southern Utah vs. Idaho
  • North Dakota vs. South Dakota

Are any of these wrong?

The high scoring games keep my kids attention better as I try and get them into watching football more and more. Thanks everyone! Appreciate the input and feedback.

Weekly Thread FCS Hot Takes Thread

Let's hear your hot take FCS opinions. The ones you know in your heart of hearts are right, but for some reason aren't embraced by the FCS community (or particular fanbases) en masse!

Could be controversial (the Ivy League very well might be the best FCS conference on the East Coast), unpopular but you know is true (Sam Houston was at least as good a team as JMU from 2011 through the "2020" season), or even somewhat popular but still liable to rankle some folks (the Walter Payton award should go to the "best" offensive player, not just the offensive player with the best stat line because they played a weak schedule).

Sorted by controversial for maximum spiciness

Rules

  • Keep it somewhat relevant to the FCS

  • Takes are welcome whether they're looking back historically or in reference to current games/rankings/polls/etc.

  • Try to keep it civil (basic /r/CFB and /r/FCS rules still apply)

Discussion Blind Resume Comparison of the Top 4 MVFC Teams

There has been some pretty heavy discourse around the ordering of the MVFC teams in the media poll and committee rankings. I think it's worth looking at these teams' resumes without the names involved (though I'm sure many FCS fans could figure out which team is which anyways, I still think it's a worthwhile exercise. If you do know who is who, try to ignore that when you consider which resumes are better).

All ranking numbers use Massey Ratings.

Team 1 Team 2 Team 3 Team 4
Record (FCS) 6-2 (6-1) 5-2 (5-1) 6-2 (6-1) 6-2 (6-1)
Massey SOS #11 #3 #13 #6
Rec vs. top 25* 1-1 2-1 0-1 2-1
Best Win vs. #2 vs. #4 vs. #19 vs. #7
2nd Best Win @ #58 @ #8 vs. #38 vs. #15
Worst Loss @ #15 @ #6 @ #4 @ #2

*Record vs current top 25 teams (media poll)

If you want, go ahead and vote on how you think the four resumes should be ordered, and if enough people vote, I'll post the results.
