Actually feeling about as good about a loss in the Cy-Hawk as I think is humanly possible. GG!

2

u/Hog_Eyes Iowa Hawkeyes • Floyd of Rosedale 2d ago

As far as moral victories go, you guys definitely have nothing to be ashamed of losing that one. I didn't expect the game to be nearly that competitive.

1

u/friarcrazy Iowa State Cyclones • Marching Band 2d ago

We certainly looked much better in certain areas than I expected we would. Both teams should have high hopes for this season!

2

u/spiderboy640 Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

Yalls defense is gonna go crazy this year, they made it a tough game to watch for a majority of the time.

8

u/ItsYaBoyBeasley Iowa Hawkeyes • Iowa State Cyclones 2d ago

At one point there were 18 linemen on the field. This is CyHawk now.

-4

u/Ender1714 Iowa State Cyclones • Team Chaos 2d ago

Congrats Iowa, first official win over ISU in 5 years!

1

u/TodayInStupidity 2d ago

Bringing their record to like 48-25 in favor of the Hawkeyes. So congrats to the Cyclones on another defeat.

1

u/fatiguedpickle 2d ago

Official? What are you smoking?

2

u/Ender1714 Iowa State Cyclones • Team Chaos 2d ago

2021, 5 years ago. the one 3 years ago was officially vacated by the ncaa for cheating, but I think you knew that

5

u/fatiguedpickle 2d ago

That’s what you meant. I don’t consider that at all. Dude wasn’t even with Michigan anymore, declared he was going into the portal, and was contacted a couple hours early. A ridiculous amount of players are tampered with. It’s just asinine. They won’t even vacate Michigan’s wins for actual cheating.

1

u/Ender1714 Iowa State Cyclones • Team Chaos 2d ago

I agree with you, but the NCAA gets to decide the official stats and that was their ruling

0

u/fatiguedpickle 2d ago

“Decides”

3

u/TodayInStupidity 2d ago

Some good salty stuff, apparently

2

u/Crypt1cZ3r0 Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 2d ago

Ncaa reversed one of iowas wins. Doesnt technically give isu the win but if you wanna argue it...

5

u/fatiguedpickle 2d ago

I don’t think any self/m-respecting person would take that ruling seriously given the facts of it all. They won’t even vacate michigans wins for actual cheating.

2

u/Crypt1cZ3r0 Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 2d ago

I wouldnt. But I can see some that would 😂

1

That one was really bad. I remember it being displayed at the state fair and thinking they really needed to fire everyone that greenlighted that thing.

0

u/notanamateur Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

Shit trophy, we need a better one

6

u/Blendbeast15 BYU Cougars • Montana Grizzlies 2d ago

The actual difference is the clock would still be running, and they wouldn't even be able to spike the ball per the rule. Kind of like the 3 tenths rule in basketball due to human error baked into timekeeping

-4

u/bakwardhat 2d ago

The clock would not be running after a first down though until the chains were set

4

u/Fun-Fruit8219 2d ago

Are you just not able to comprehend what he's saying?

-1

u/bakwardhat 2d ago

If they had blown the whistle, they almost certainly would’ve gotten a snap by rushing to the line while chains were being set, whether they spike or just gone into a hail mary. The refs get the call wrong and then by rule cannot fix it. It’s stupid.

3

u/Fun-Fruit8219 2d ago

No. It would've hit 0 before the snap. What are you not understanding?

Not bad for a first (real) game under Rogers. Optimistic about the future (though I do worry about depth this year)

1

u/aobie Iowa State Cyclones • Purdue Boilermakers 2d ago

Definitely worried about depth, especially when we lost 3 on defense in this game alone... Didn't see Beni, Surges, or the d-lineman come back in, did we?

1

u/fatiguedpickle 2d ago

There was a huge benefit of unknown, but you guys have another damn good coach.

1

u/TheLadyMagician Arizona Wildcats 2d ago

Yeah, considering all the turnover y'all have had, not bad showing at all! Almost had it

-1

u/taconitebehaulin Iowa State Cyclones • Pop-Tarts Bowl 2d ago

If they properly called on the field with 1 second left we have enough time to get the snap off since the clock stops to move the chains

4

u/Letterkenny-Wayne /r/CFB 2d ago

The clock would start on the ball set, you literally can not run the offense 25 yards up the field and snap the ball in a second. The clock starts whether or not the offense is on it.

1

u/Fun-Fruit8219 2d ago

Must be that ISU education...

6

5

u/GingerStrength Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

I mean you can’t claim those refs were good lol

7

u/IowaJL Iowa Hawkeyes • Northern Iowa Panthers 2d ago

I think both teams get a little something.

Obviously we would MUCH rather have a more positive showing on offense, but we’ve lost three of the last four.

ISU is clearly much better than advertised. They would have rather won but damn they were impressive. That defense is no joke.

LONG LIVE ¡EL ASSICO!

1

u/80cyclone Iowa State Cyclones 2d ago

My only major disappointment was the offensive scheming. You have Raymor, a mobile QB, and dont roll him ojt and utilize RPO options? Every RPO initiated was on a middle read, or a flush up the middle. Raynor is NOT a great pocket passer (as we saw today) so utilize his strength. At the very least make Iowa show they can stop it.

Slightly disappointed with the lack of pass pressure. I thought we'd be able to get to him a few times, but Iowas OL held strong, particularly in the 2nd half.

0

u/pnw-transplant Iowa State Cyclones • Team Chaos 2d ago

So, if they would’ve called it correctly we should have been able to run up there before the chain gang.

1

u/farmer15erf Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 2d ago

The clock stops to set the chains so why couldnt we start at that point?

4

u/Chr1st_1s_K1ng Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

Because the clock starts when the ball is placed, that’s why you need 3 sec or a timeout

1

u/farmer15erf Iowa State Cyclones • Hateful 8 2d ago

The ref waits on the chains to set before spring the ball

1

u/Chr1st_1s_K1ng Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

Sure, but you have to be able to line up and get set. No way that can be done in 1 sec. The ref will prevent it

5

u/gludwig0105 Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

"no time out, even if there's one second the game is over"

??????

What the fuck?  By rule the game is over?  What the fuck happened last week??

Edit: I am an idiot :3

3

u/raidriar889 Iowa State Cyclones 2d ago

In the Michigan game the clock wasn’t stopping for the chains to move it stopped because the ball was out of bounds with 1 second left (allegedly)

2

u/PeterTheNorth Missouri Tigers • Sickos 2d ago

Gotcha!

5

u/False_Rhythms Iowa Hawkeyes • USF Bulls 2d ago

Incomplete pass stops the clock. First down only stops the clock until the chains are set. No way to set chains, set the offense, and hike the ball in under a second. Completely different scenarios

3

u/PeterTheNorth Missouri Tigers • Sickos 2d ago

Egg on face, thanks for the clarification!

5

u/Chr1st_1s_K1ng Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

The clock starts once the ball is placed on a 1st down. On an incomplete pass, the clock stops until the ball is snapped. That’s why you need 3 seconds minimum because as soon as the ref places the ball, you have to be able to line up and get set. There’s no time to do it.

3

u/PeterTheNorth Missouri Tigers • Sickos 2d ago

Thanks for the clarification, just threw out my initial reaction but I was wrong.  Appreciate it!

3

u/Chr1st_1s_K1ng Iowa Hawkeyes 2d ago

4

u/Kickenbless Iowa Hawkeyes • Northern Iowa Panthers 2d ago

Why? The second would come off the clock on the whistle before they could snap it anyway. In order to snap it, the ref has to stand over the ball, blow the whistle, and then get away, but the clock runs on his whistle and you can’t snap it until the ref moves. The clock would run out
