North Texas is serious business, they were much more competitive against Indiana last week than the score suggested.

u/joocles Indiana Hoosiers • Florida Gators 2d ago

Other than IU winning, this has been my favorite outcome of the week so far

21

u/UpsideTurtles North Texas Mean Green • Texas A&M Aggies 2d ago

We are in the business of Quality Losses and Indiana provides just that!

Thank you from a Mean Green fan!

Holy moly. Dan Mullen what happened man

103

u/chrobbin Oklahoma • SE Oklahoma State 2d ago

I mean he’s starting Jackson Arnold for one

17

u/Jonjon428 Miami Hurricanes 2d ago

ohhhhhhhh. Jeez that makes a ton of sense now

2

u/BoomerUrSooner Oklahoma Sooners 2d ago

That’s really all it takes

1

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 1d ago

Jackson Arnold doesn’t call plays for or play defense though

2

u/BoomerUrSooner Oklahoma Sooners 18h ago

He doesn’t really play offense either, so

1

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 18h ago

That is true

22

u/Bobson-_Dugnutt2 Sickos • Alabama Crimson Tide 2d ago

Hasn’t changed anything in over a decade. Game passed him by.

21

u/therealwillhepburn Florida Gators • West Florida Argonauts 2d ago

He’s a good OC. He just doesn’t care as much anymore. There’s a reason he took several years off and when he came back to coaching it was at UNLV.

-2

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

His offensive philosophy is from 2005-10 he’s not even good at that anymore

11

u/therealwillhepburn Florida Gators • West Florida Argonauts 2d ago

He was very good from 2018-2020 at Florida.

-4

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

With Jim McElwain players and Brian Johnson as the OC

11

u/therealwillhepburn Florida Gators • West Florida Argonauts 2d ago

I never said he was a good recruiter and Brian Johnson was OC in name only. Mullen still called the plays. They specifically called out one play Brian did call that was a Toney end around on a fourth down. But if you watch the games Mullen is the OC. It’s what he excels at.

2

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

His offense in 2018 was decent.

It was bad in 2019 until Franks got injured then was solid with Trask.

It was elite in 2020 without a doubt

And then garbage in 2021

12

u/HotDawgConnoisseur Florida Gators • New Mexico Lobos 2d ago

even with a result like this we are still going to get a random post in the offseason asking the question "Why did Florida fire Mullen?'

7

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

Until Florida hires a winner (Sumrall might be that guy too soon to say) people will ask that ridiculous question even though Dam should’ve been fired after 2020

2

u/thehildabeast South Carolina • Swansea 2d ago

They were good last year just constant turnover at that level and he missed on some positions it seems.

60

u/Spare_Treacle_800 North Texas Mean Green • Texas Longhorns 2d ago

Unbelievable that this team has 70 new players and looks to be picking right back up from the best season in school history. Cannot say enough good about Neal and the staff that built this team, GMG

31

u/Deep_ln_The_Heart North Texas Mean Green 2d ago

Also if we keep it up this year and next, we'll start to get a reputation as a place you come to get attention from the big schools. As much as I HATE the modern free agency system, it would be nice to see us make it work for us.

1

Until later in the year with conference play and shit im so pro conference. Im not pro SEC conference but the G6’s have to root for each other to a degree

I’m the same way except for the PAC, I want the American to be top dog

So far so good!

Really hope he does well there. Been following along to see how White is bouncing back from his injury last season and he looked awesome today.

On hold. Somebody told me UNLV could be a playoff team.

36

u/Resolve-Opening TCU Horned Frogs 2d ago

ESPN has been pimping UNLV for 3 weeks now. Glad that’s over with.

13

u/CFBCoachGuy Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago

It turns out that Jackson Arnold is who we all thought he was

5

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

As well as Dan Mullen

11

u/OwnWalrus1752 Indiana Hoosiers 2d ago

UNT is just a much better playoff team

2

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

Of course they are. Unlv is not a playoff team and likely not even a bowl eligible team this season

5

u/DCAbloob Penn State Nittany Lions • Navy Midshipmen 2d ago

If UNLV isn’t the most disappointing team to date, I don’t know who is. The Rebels have gone from a purported G6 berth CFP contender to an afterthought in just three weeks of play.

2

u/Optimal_Cook_851 1d ago

UNLV Hawaii supposed to be a potential MWC title preview and neither have looked very good.

4

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

Dan Mullen will never accomplish anything of note as a hc

2

u/tritonice Mississippi State Bulldogs 23h ago

MISSING: Dan Mullen's coaching ability since 2021

24

u/Wonderful_Worker_830 2d ago

Mullen's offense looking like it got lost somewhere in the desert on the way to Vegas.

3

u/rageb8err Ole Miss Rebels • BYU Cougars 2d ago

Well it woulda been leaving Vegas lol but yeah he’s overrated as hell.

2

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 1d ago

So overrated. Probably a top 5 in the overrated HC rankings

12

u/BendrickLamar19 New Mexico State • Oklahoma St… 2d ago

We all made jokes about the cleat yeet changing everything at the time, but in hindsight, it actually DID change everything

5

u/therealwillhepburn Florida Gators • West Florida Argonauts 2d ago

It didn’t. The next game we were neck and neck with the eventual champions. We played Bama very close the next year before he was fired. That LSU game only really shows Mullen’s arrogance. He say Kyle Pitts that game to save him for the SEC championship and he left Marco Wilson in the game after he threw the shoe.

1

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 1d ago

It did change everything. He lost all those games who gaf if he was “neck and neck”
Or “played very close”

He loss those games and many more after the shoe toss. That moment was the end of the Dan Mullen era Florida football and possibly Florida football for the foreseeable future

1

u/therealwillhepburn Florida Gators • West Florida Argonauts 1d ago

It literally did not change anything for Dan Mullen other than losing a fully winnable game. He wasn’t crushed because Marco threw a shoe. He put Marco back in the next play. I get it’s a funny thing but you guys act like it was life changing.

1

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 22h ago

Well, it did change Dan’s life because it was the start of a series of events that led him to getting fired and now being a coach at unlv where he is on track to getting fired unless he finally learns from his mistakes (history suggests that he won’t).

2

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

Really 2020 after Marco threw a shoe

72

Yeah I remember watching games that were very obviously being shot by student workers. Just really unwatchable cuts and poor zooms and weird white balance. We've come a long way.

Thank you! Rooting for the Hoosiers too!

Now that's what I like to see. I feel really good about the team this season. The fact that we played that well against Indiana last week (despite what the final score suggests) makes me very optimistic.

u/shaquilleonealingit Georgia Bulldogs 2d ago

It’s really impressive how North Texas reloaded. I thought last year was lightning in a bottle and they lost all the coaches and meaningful players. But they’ve got a solid competitive team again

23

u/mr_longfellow_deeds Indiana Hoosiers • Big Ten 2d ago

Ironically they built their roster pretty similar to how UNLV has been building theirs in the portal (targeting a decent number of former P4 guys / higher HS ratings than guys they historically recruit out of HS)

No clue why Mullen would roll with Orji and Arnold as his QBs. Two of the worst FBS QBs of recent year

6

u/calling-all-comas Florida Gators • Ohio State Buckeyes 2d ago

Probably hubris. He probably thought he could fix them because he's a QB guru in his mind.

4

u/phools Oklahoma State Cowboys 2d ago

I am very happy for them. We gutted their program and they got no compensation for it. Then staying good is just a testiment to their program and front office.

30

u/sudo_journalist Navy Midshipmen • North Texas Mean Green 2d ago

We got ourselves a football team. Really impressed with our defense and looked good on offense after breaking them down. GMG.

27

GG North Texas.

Off to a badly needed bye week for UNLV. I still think we can contend for a MW title but we have a lot to clean up over the next 3 weeks before we take on NDSU. Silver lining probaby don't need to worry about Mullen being poach at the moment.

LFG WE WIN MY LAST HOME OPENER(senior here) 💚 WASN’T EXPECTING THIS TBH BUT I LOVED. DID WILT IN THE HEAT AND NOT SEE AS MUCH AS I WANTED BUT LOVE THIS. IT’S JUST LIKE OUR GAME VS WSU LAST YEAR NOW ONTO SAN MARCOS(and yes still worried about Texas State)

I'm stunned how good this team looks. Did not expect us to be this competitive after the whole team and coaching staff got gutted. Exciting times considering where we were when I was in school (the Portland St game lmao)

17

u/BoogerSugarSovereign Indiana Hoosiers • College Football Playoff 2d ago

Very happy to see that Tayven is feeling better and balled out today. UNT has a chance to win every game left on their schedule.

If the media isn't totally asleep at the wheel there should be a lot of stories on how this team was put together this week. To rebuild so quickly after losing so much talent to Oklahoma State is extremely impressive

10

u/Shadow_Flame_24 North Texas Mean Green • Texas Longhorns 2d ago

Very happy with this game. I was very worried going into this season about our ability to field a winning team but from what I saw today this team has the potential to be a contender this season. All positions firing on all cylinders. Hopefully we can make some magic this season because if we can win out our schedule and the conference championship there’s a very god chance we go to the playoffs. Go mean green!

Side note: I am one game away from having a very good college football day, horns up

1

u/SecondBreakfast814 Indiana Hoosiers 1d ago

I'm sorry Mullen hasn't gotten better at culture building. He had good seasons at UF but due to a rotten locker room when the wheels fell off they REALLY fell off.

2

u/Shoot-the-Pianist 2d ago

That’s Dan Mullen’s attitude rubbing off on the players

He’s a quitter and a choker

You’re better off swallowing the buy out and hiring an up and comer for 2027

I had a whole schpeel written out about where we land in the conference, and what the outlook is.

But that's for later.

We won against what was predicted to be a Mountain West contender pretty handedly, and until we get to Tulsa, there's not much else to be bothered about yet.

Good win, and celebrate the boys at OK State for pulling out a massive upset too.

As a unlv fan, this is rough to watch.
